Work Text:
“Love the beard.“
Her voice sends shivers down his spine, makes his heart skip a beat. As Emily enters his office, she smirks, closing the door softly behind her. He watches her every move, his eyes practically glued to her, his paperwork long forgotten, put aside to finish at some point the next day.
“C’mere, you,“ Aaron says, smiling softly as he stands up and rounds his desk to get closer to her, meeting her halfway. She immediately wraps her arms around him, breathing him in. It feels so right to her. It’s a feeling she once used to be afraid of but wasn’t anymore, not if it’s with him.
“Honestly, you should keep it, at least for a little while longer,“ she mumbles against his shirt, feeling his chest vibrate with laughter.
“I’m glad you think so, Jack doesn’t.“
“Oh, I’ll talk to him. He’ll love it soon, trust me.“
They stay like this, wrapped in each other’s arms, for a bit longer until he pulls away, turning to his table.
“I haven’t had the chance to give these to you earlier but-“
“You got me flowers?“ he softly nods at her, smiling with his dimples full on display. “They look so beautiful, I love them! Thank you,“ she says sincerely before pressing a kiss to his cheek, her lips lingering a millisecond too long.
When she pulls back, they look deep into each other’s eyes, both getting lost, only breaking eye contact as her eyes flicker down to his lips. Before she had the chance to register what was about to happen, he leans in, the kiss was soft and short, almost as if to check she was okay with it. The wide grin on her face tells him she’s more than okay with it and their second kiss is more intense, more passionate, both of them putting everything they feel into it. There’s so much love and longing, when they pull back, they’re both breathless, foreheads pressed together, eyes closed.
“We missed you so much.“
It’s the way he says it that has her pressing yet another kiss to his lips, his voice so very similar to when he had spoken to her in the hospital before she had gone into hiding in Paris.
“I missed you and Jack, too,“ she responds with just as much emotion in her voice. He doesn’t need to specify, she just knows who he meant as soon as the words left his mouth. His hand finds hers, their fingers intertwining. “You two were all I could think about. You kept me going in Paris.“
Emily avoids looking into his eyes, instead looking down at his hand holding hers. She isn’t sure what kind of reaction she expected, but him lifting her hand and pressing a soft kiss to her knuckles makes the butterflies in her stomach go wild. As her eyes shift to see so much adoration for her on his face, she can’t help but tear up.
Aaron softly reaches out to wipe the few tears away that had escaped her eyes. “It’s okay now. You’re safe here. I won’t fail you, I promise.“
Her arms find their way up to his neck, clasping behind his head and his hands immediately find her waist, the movements so natural to the both of them as if they have been doing it for years.
“You never have.“
