Chapter Text
“Hydrangea! Co-come back her-here!”
The shrill, teenage voice assuredly full of cracking, bounced around the halls of the quaint apartment. In a flash of green, something darted from wall to wall, shaking pictures frames as it leapt. Just behind it was another blur of green, this one however, easily distinguishable as a person. Green followed green, until the first, smaller, blur leapt behind a figure resting on the couch.
The figure on the couch, a serene green-haired woman, smiled laxly at the small blur beneath her. Her voice was dripping with mirth as she blinked, “What did you do this time, Hydra?” Beneath her, the small creature just chittered and scrunched it’s nose. Behind it a large tail alternated between wacking her back, and hitting the couch, the creature’s own mirth evident.
With rapid steps, the pursuer of the small creature finally entered the room. His face was set in a deadpan, but his eyes glimmered with an upset look. He gauged the room, slowly walking towards his mother. Cradled within his arms was a small creature, not like the other one, weeping with it’s arms clutched around it’s eggshell.
Frowning at his mother, the boy blinked, “Is Hydrangea behind you?” His mother only gave him a small smile, still keeping the mirth in her eyes, “I don’t know, why don’t you check.” Leaning forwards, she allowed for the boy to grab the green creature, who shrieked in betrayal. Turning towards her son, the mother sighed, “Izuku, what did the poor thing even do? And why is Ivy crying?” She held her hands out for Ivy, cradling it close to her chest.
Izuku tugged Hydrangea up, giving the green lizard a look, “She cracked Ivy’s shell. Look at her back.” Turning the creature within her grasp over, Inko could now see the crack spreading from the leg openings of the shell up towards one of the spiky edges. Furrowing her brows, the mother looked to her son, “Will it harm her in any way?”
Stopping his inspection, Izuku looked to his mother’s arms and prattled off what he had analyzed of the creature, “Togepi, the Spike Ball Pokemon, it’s said that Togepi absorbs the happiness of those around it and stores it within it’s shell. It shouldn’t have too bad of an effect, we should probably put some band-aids on it though, until we can find a solution.” Inko nodded, standing with the togepi still cradled within her arms, and walked off towards the kitchen.
Huffing, Izuku turned his gaze from his mother to the green lizard in his arms, “Hydrangea what did I tell you about playing rough with Ivy? I know you want to welcome her, but you have to be more careful.” Head hanging low, Hydrangea avoided the boy’s eyes as she huffed, chittering lowly, “tree-tre.” Though Izuku had no clue what the treecko said, he at least got the guilt in her tone. Setting her down, he gave her a couple scratches beneath her chin, “Just be more careful.”
She bloomed under the attention, tail thwapping the floor gently. Just as soon as he started his hand halted and he turned around. Hydrangea whined at his back but followed closely behind him. After all, she was the first pokemon who approached him when he got his quirk. He had a loyalty to the mysterious creatures, anyhow, seeing as they had been the only ones there for him.
Midoriya Izuku
Quirk: Creature Attract - Izuku can attract mystical creatures known as Pokémon to his location! Most times the quirk is off, ensuring that things like wild Tauros don’t rampage through the city. When Izuku becomes stressed, however, his hold on the quirk loosens and the quirk activates once again.
Midoriya Izuku was 4 years old when he learned that all men aren’t created equal. Like every other child, he had wished and hoped for a strong quirk. Coincidentally, 50 years ago on his birthday, the first pokemon had begun emerging into the world. Instead of that powerful quirk he hoped for, he gained one that had a connection to these creatures of fiction. His own first pokemon, Hydrangea the treecko, was proof of that.
Kicking his clothes to the sides, Izuku trudged through the mess that was his room. He could admit that he was letting it get messy, but as the end of his middle school years approached, he was becoming too excited for summer. That was when he usually went out to tinker for his pokeballs or to analyze any pokemon he could find.
From somewhere within his room, a twinkling trill came, and Izuku could already tell that Sunflower and Lotus had done something. Shuffling through his covered floor, Izuku groaned when he looked in his closet. Just on top of his bag were two very satisfied looking spider pokemon. Sunflower, the joltik, giggled and wiggled his front legs at Izuku. Lotus, the dewpider, just popped a bubble at him. Izuku, being the immature teen he was, stuck his tongue out at both of them.
Quickly he stuck his arm just beneath his bed, tugging an exact replica of the yellow bag the two spiders were on out. Both blinked in alarm, looking between the bag they were sitting on and the one in his arms. Letting a small simper onto his face, Izuku raised his brows, “Thought you were so clever, huh you two? Guess what, you’re out of school duty for two days.” Both Lotus and Sunflower began wailing, though it didn’t matter. Izuku had long already chosen the two pokemon who would accompany him to school that day.
Snatching the two pokeballs from his desk, Izuku felt the charm on each. Wisteria’s charm was a little wisteria flower, the litwick somewhere off in the house. Once Izuku activated their pokeball, the candle pokemon would be with him, but he would wait until they had to leave. Snapdragon’s charm was a little snapdragon, and he could hear the tell-tale singing of the swablu from down the hall. The cloud-feathered pokemon must’ve gotten some of Izuku’s things for him.
Stepping into the entry way into his home, Izuku gave a weak yawn and stretched his arms. Snapdragon came sailing on her wings from the hall, landing in Izuku’s head. She doubled down, covering his curls with her own fluffy feathers. Sighing, Izuku scratched at the main portion of her small body, quickly clicking the button on Wisteria’s pokeball. The bird pokemon on his head could stay out for a while at the very least. She was the least troublesome after all, seeing as Ivy had proven to be very happy to provoke some of the others.
Shuffling his shoes on, he called out into the house, “Bye Mom! I’ll see you in a few hours!” In return, he heard the clatter of pots and pans, which bled out to allow his mother’s voice to filter in from the kitchen, “Don’t forget your hat and hair tie! I’ll see you in a bit, baby!” With that, Izuku tied his red shoes tight. Tugging at the hat rack beside the door, he picked out his favorite green hat with a white poke ball logo. His mother had gotten it custom made for him last year, and he treasured it dearly.
Quickly, his hands darted to the back of his head as he pulled his hair tight and wrapped the ponytail holder around it. With gentle hands, he lifted his swablu from his head and replaced her with his signature hat. Once it was settled on his head, he placed Snapdragon on top, giving her some time to adjust her talons.
Once the two of them were certifiably ready, Izuku cracked the door open. The world spread out before him, and he took the steps needed to leave his house. Now out on the street, and on his way to school, Izuku was able to analyze any quirks he came across. Maybe even catch the eyes of a couple pokemon.
Even if the newest animals on Earth were becoming more and more apparent, he still sometimes got weird looks whenever he carried his own companions to and from school. Snapdragon sang quietly on his hat, careful not to put any of her ability into it. In turn, Izuku matched her tune and the two harmonized all the way to the school.
Along the walk, Izuku got a good look at some quirks, his hands opening and closing. He had an itching to get his notebook out then and there, just to start analyzing anybody who happened to cross his path. Keeping his tone with Snapdragon, Izuku noted everyone who gave him weird looks. Most of them were just curious, but some of them were in distaste and disgust. News stations that painted pokemon out to be pests were mostly the issue for the last emotions, but it never stopped hurting Izuku to see those looks. Instead of thinking about those sad, probably loveless people any further, Izuku just continued on his way to school.
Once he got to the gates, he shifted his yellow backpack at the straps and let out a low sigh. This would be the last day of his middle school life, and then it would be on to high school and beyond.
