Not the Best of Days

Summary:

Lou and Kid get into a fight, Lou finishes it

Notes:

I have a few other stories I've been working on, this is just a short one to see how this all works and how it's accepted, or not ;)

I got the idea from a fanfic (I'm sorry, I don't remember which one) in which Kid wasn't being very nice to Lou.
I wondered how Lou would react if Kid ever lost it and actually hit her. This was what I came up with.

Work Text:

They had been outside arguing for some time and things were getting pretty heated when Lou, fed up and tired, said, “Enough Kid! We've been through this a hundred times and I'm done fighting about it!” and turned to go.
Kid snapped. “NO! You're my wife and you WILL do what I say!” He grabbed her arm, swung her around and without thinking, slapped her!

Lou's hand went to her face, her eyes wide as she stumbled two steps backwards and fell to the ground, stunned, 'He hit me!'
Kid, realizing he'd just made a terrible mistake and his anger abated, took a step forward with his arms out, “Lou! I'm sorry..”
Hickok's coaching paid off. Quick as a thought, Lou's revolver had appeared in her hand and Kid found himself staring down at the business end of her gun, “Back. Off.”

Kid took a step forward, “Lou you wouldn't..” A loud BANG! And Kid felt a bullet fly past his left ear. He froze.
Lou cocked the gun again, “I said BACK OFF.” She was still holding her cheek where he'd stuck her but she was no longer in shock, she was furious!
Kid tried again, “Lou please!” Another loud BANG! and Kid felt a bullet buzz past his right ear.
Lou cocked the hammer back, “Next one goes right down the middle.”

Kid stepped back as she got to her feet, “You got ten seconds to get on your horse and ride out or so help me God Kid I'll put one of these in you.”
Kid took another step back, “Lou please! I'm sorry!”
“You're gonna be sorry alright. No one hits me. NO ONE!”
Kid's shoulders slumped as resigned and defeated he turned to go, 'What have I done?' He walked over to Katie and mounted her. He looked back at Lou who still had the gun leveled at him, “Lou please, I'm sorry, I really am. I didn't mean it.”
Lou just stared at him over the sights of her gun and said very coldly and calmly, “Five”. He knew it was useless to continue and nudged Katie to move off.

Lou watched as Kid rode away and slid her pistol back into its holster. Her knees had started to shake but she stayed standing until he was out of sight. Then her legs gave way and she crumpled to the ground as the tears came.
