Work Text:

the sky sure was beautiful today.
well, that's honestly what hitch always thought of the sky... whether it be sunrise...sunset...daytime...nighttime. the sky always looked pretty to her. most people would agree with her. it was basically a fact that the sky looked nice. there were so many variations that you had to like at least one, whether it be dark or light or in between.
though currently, there was a beautiful sunset, staring at it made her mind go back...to when the rumbling had recently started...when she had been with a girl named annie. an interesting girl indeed...and they were on a horse together, riding off into the sunset. annie had wrapped her arms around hitchs hips and she remembered feeling really flustered. it had been such a simple thing, but it still made her face flush. she had even leaned against her...annie had seemed a lot more open at that time while they were on the horse together, and not just I'm a physical way. she had told hitch about her past, and it had been surprising and sort of sudden to hitch, but she appreciated greatly that annie had trusted her enough to tell her...she really was glad annie told her. hitch already understood her more than basically anyone, but knowing about her backstory helped her even more.

back when her and annie had been roommates, she had been desperate to learn everything about her...everything little detail. her mannerisms and likes and dislikes. but her higher goal was to get the gloomy girl to smile or laugh..it'd be a dream come true- and she actually had done it a few times. annies smile was subtle and small, but extremely pretty. she could look at that smile longer than she could look at the sky. honestly...

if she had to admit it, she found annie really beautiful...finding herself staring at her sometimes in the days that they were roommates. everything about her just looked stunning though, from that light blonde hair that was almost always up in a bun. to her icy blue stare, her hooked nose, and her pinkish tinted lips. don't even start with that damn collarbone- it was basically as rare as annies smile because of how much she wore hoodies that covered it, but she basically had an internal panic when she first saw it. she had seen it since annie sometimes wore long sleeve shirts...and hitch well....MAYBE watched her change a few times. but you couldn't blame her...annies frame was really beautiful as well. if she could she'd run her hands all over her and kiss every part of her an-
she shook her head, eyes going wide at the thoughts she was having.

she doubted she'd ever have a chance with somebody like annie...annie was basically perfect in her eyes- which she didn't think anybody else would really think, but she sure thought that... though she wasn't even sure if annie liked her...she had left her after all. thinking of that gave her a deep sadness. she felt horrible when annie had left her...she began to remember the details.

hitch was helping people from the rumbling, and went into the building annie was in...to see well, crystal juices all over the ground... leading to another room. hitch knew that annie had escaped and she had went through the door, trying to find annie. she was grabbed by the mouth just a few moments later and pulled into annie- who was way shorter than her, and had her ring pressed against her neck...she remembered the cold feel. the way annie slammed the door shut with her foot and the sharp tip of the pointed ring pressing against her neck. the way annie talked to her in such a commanding way- telling her that if she screamed she'd slit her throat. hitch remembered she had heavily breathed, honestly in a lot of panic and shock...but who wouldn't be? she hadn't heard her roommate in four years. so long ago...it made her even more shocked to see annies face. she had managed to flip annie over on her back and pin her down against a wall. they both didn't expect to see each other...but hitch was really impacted by it. she'd thought the girl would never come out of the crystal...that she'd never see annie again...but here she was, with annie staring up at her.

hitch had flipped annie around and straddled right onto her back, holding her hands together tightly.... though annie then told her some more things, like that she could transform whenever. hitchs comrades began yelling and asking if she was alright, though she didn't answer...she knew she had to keep annie safe. so she brought annie to the stables, getting a horse and riding on it with annie.

she also remembered hearing that annie heard everything she said, which embarassed her...that meant annie had heard her crying...she'd cried quite a few times at annies crystal...although she did it whenever armin wasn't there.
she just cried and poured out her feelings to annie. she knew that annie couldn't respond...and she hadn't even known if she could hear it..she couldve basically been talking to a dead person, but it made her feel better to speak to annie, so she went there at least once every single day, to tell her updates of what was going on and stuff...reading her newspapers and complaining about men and work...things like that.

she remembered them riding off into the sunset with each other on the horse...annie wrapping her arms around her...and sharing her backstory. they just talked...enjoying a moment together. they had then arrived back to town, where she found a place to get food for annie...she must've been starving after not eating for so long- of course her hunger must've been slowed greatly, since she was alive- but she still must've been so hungry. she suggested getting pie, and annies eyes had basically lit up, and she quickly accepted the offer...hitch had found that really cute.

annie really did have a sweet tooth...not expected by many people, but she knew about it, since she had always brought annie treats whenever they were roommates. annie acted casual, but when she thought hitch couldn't hear or see her, she basically demolished them, acting like she hadn't eaten for days from how fast she ate it.
honestly she had gotten annie lots of gifts, which she usually just said a bored thank you to but later on enjoyed them a lot...and just showed her love without really saying it out loud...hitch could just tell.

hitch had gotten annie pie, which she ate really fast- she then decided to get annie even more pie. she had to wait in the line for a really long time, though she was fine with it- as long as she could make annie happy...she'd do almost anything for that girl. she knew it sounded crazy, but it was the truth. she really....really loved annie...but was way too scared to admit it. armin had a crush on annie, so she wouldn't really want to purposely ruin his chances of getting annie..as much as she herself had a crush on her. she'd feel bad if she did that. though it wasn't like annie ever said she liked armin back...so maybe she did have a chance. she hoped so anyways.

hitch had returned after at least half an hour of waiting in the line...just to see annie was gone. she was confused and pretty hurt. she ended up seeing a small note tucked under one of the cups, she picked it up and unfolded it to see it was a note from annie.

'dear hitch-'
the letter began with, causing hitchs face to slightly flush and her heart to flutter.
'armin and connie found me. I've decided to go with them to help them. '
her heart fell at that... annie was really gone?...for how long?...
'im sorry. thank you for being there for me, hitch.'
hitchs heart dropped even more at those words...annie really did seem to be glad that she had been there for her.
'goodbye. your gloomy roommate.'
a frown appeared on hitchs face within seconds, starting to feel a tear prick at her eye and start to slowly stream down her cheek. she gave a sniff then a sigh, before reaching out and grabbing a slice of pie she had gotten for annie...looks like she'd have to eat it alone.
"...how am I supposed to eat all of this alone...?" she murmured softly to herself, her face wet with a few tears, her throat tight as well. she wasn't even really sure if she could stomach the food from how much sadness filled her, but she didn't want to waste it...she glanced up to see everybody else with other people...dancing and laughing and talking...eating together...that could've been her and annie...that would've been amazing...a dream come true...but now a dream that had been shattered to pieces. she silently looked back to her pie, beginning to eat it with an overwhelming gloominess hanging over her like a storm cloud.

hitch was suddenly broken out of her daydreams. her thoughts of annie...she missed her so, so much...but she had to move on...right?
hitchs gaze flickered around the streets, watching as everyone passed by, doing their daily things. though her stare froze as she saw a person. a familiar person. everything seemed to be in slow motion as she watched the girl walk along the streets. she studied her features...light blonde hair.... icy blue eyes...a sharp, hooked nose...short....she also had a pretty blank expression. annie?...annie?...it had to be her, right?....it looked too much like her to not be her. that or she was going crazy from not having seen her in so long.

hitch began to approach the girl, walking up behind her. she stared at her for a moment, pausing before putting a hand on her shoulder gently. "annie?...is that you?" she asked, her voice soft and a bit shaky...she was already pretty emotional...even if this wasn't annie, it looked so much like her...it made her miss her more...but if this was annie, it'd be amazing.

the shorter girl turned around with slight alarm, her eyes going wide as she looked up at hitch. she narrowed her eyes and tilted her head a bit. "....hitch?...it's... you?" she uttered out, looking surprised. "...yeah. it's me. annie." she told hitch, still gazing up at her, looking all over her face, seeing the mix of emotions on the others face. annie felt guilt wash over her as she stared at hitch, remembering how she had left her...

she really would've said goodbye to her in person, but she just didn't have enough time...of course she cared about hitch. a lot. but she probably came off as selfish or uncaring to just leave a note and nothing else...and it wasn't like the note said much. it was short- but that was both because she was in a rush and didn't exactly know what to say anyways.... she wasn't the best with words, even when she really was passionate about something or someone. though when it came to hitch, maybe she was a little more caring seeming...even though she hadn't said it, she was super passionate towards hitch.

tears proceeded to run down hitchs face in a stream, the girl lightly sniffing as she stared down at annie in disbelief...she was really right here in front of her...annie...was right here. the girl she missed so much...the girl she held dear to herself.
"annie I.....I missed you...so much." she said softly, her voice trembling. she knew annie wasn't the touchiest person, but she couldn't held but step closer to the blonde, and wrap her arms around her. she held her tightly and closely, as if she was afraid she'd dissapear if she let go of her. there was a deep silence, although it was silent, it was comforting.

annie slowly lifted up her arms to embrace hitch back, letting her forehead rest down against the taller girls shoulder.
"I missed you too, hitch....I'm sorry." she said quietly after a few more long moments of silence, the only sounds being the noise of hitch gently sniffling, and her tears slowly dripping down onto annies white hoodie. annies hoodie now was wet with her roommates tears, but she didn't care at all. as long as hitch was comforted, she'd allow her to cry all her tears out on her. she was sure that hitch's tears would probably be even more than her crystals liquid...though she'd never get sick of hitch's tears on her. it honestly comforted her too, knowing that hitch trusted her enough to be so close to her...to cry into her. to let all her emotions out.

annie herself honestly spilled out her own emotions to hitch too as well...having told hitch more than anybody...venting to her even more than reiner and bertolt. she trusted hitch...and always would.

after a few more minutes of a tight, yet gentle embrace, hitch slowly pulled back from annie, though kept her arms around her, slowly running up her back, onto her shoulders, and to her cheeks.
"annie...are you...crying?" she murmured out, her voice still a bit shaky.

annies cheeks heated up out of embarassment, and she slightly turned her head away, although not fast enough that it would cause hitchs hands to slip off from her face. she indeed was tearing up. annie didn't show her emotions often, but this time she couldn't hold them in.
she gave a tiny nod.
"yeah....I am." she told hitch, her voice being quiet and soft, a hint of embarassment in it.

hitch gave a small smile and a light chuckle.
"well...you haven't really cried much...you sure are a pretty crier, annie." she murmured out. "but please...don't cry annie...I forgive you...for everything. don't feel bad." she said, carefully using her thumb to wipe off the few tears from annies face.
"you're perfect."
she mumbled suddenly, her voice being in a whisper, almost silent.

annies heart began to flutter at the actions and words hitch had made. she just teared up more.
"I'm not perfect, hitch...I'm horrible...you shouldn't forgive me." she said, trying to keep her voice steady, although it was beginning to shake, though she hadn't broke fully yet.

"yes you are annie. everything about you is perfect to me. I don't care what anybody else says... you're perfect. you've done bad things but...I still think you are. I always will, annie." hitch responded, her green eyes gazing into annies icy ones, almost like it was grass conflicting with ice in the start of a winter...like a new season had just begun. which fit hitch and annie. for them...this was like a renewal. after all their pain and seperation, they were finally together again...with nothing and nobody to bother them. they were with eachother, and that's all that really mattered at the moment.

".. I love you...annie."
hitch added, her heart racing and butterflies in her stomach as she said those words.

annie stared up at hitch, her own heart pounding. she'd never really heard those words before other than from her father...but...this was different...it was a romantic love...and a deep one. one that neither of the two confessed to until now, but it was so needed by both of them...both had been desperate that the other would admit it, but now...they really could both admit it.

"I love you too, hitch."
annie replied after a few moments of gazing right up at hitch. a smile crossed up her face, one bigger than usual. she wasn't trying to hide it this time. and it was completely, utterly beautiful to hitch. she never thought annie could get more gorgeous, but here she was... somehow looking even more than perfect.

hitch grasped annie tighter by the face, pulling her into a kiss and shutting her eyes, her face cupping annies soft one, her lips pressed up against hers as she tilted her head and leaned in more. sure there were people around, but she didn't care right now. to her, annie was the only one in her world at the moment. she'd tuned everyone else around them out...basically making them seem invisible.

annie kissed hitch back...oh how long she'd longed to feel hitchs lips against her own..and now that desire was at last being fulfilled. she put her hand up on the back of hitch's head, gently putting a hand through her soft hair and stroking it. she really did love hitch so much...and she herself had forgotten about everyone else as well...just fixated on the moment her and hitch were experiencing together. the moment she was so glad was finally here...that it had finally decided to occur.

they just kept kissing, not wanting to leave eachother ever again...they ended up kissing for what was just a few minutes her seemed like a few hours...it was like everything was slowed down for them. almost like their brains had the urge to cherish the moment as most as possible.
annie slowly pulled away from hitch, and looked up at her with loving eyes. she truly did adore hitch. and hitch truly did adore annie.

"...thank you, hitch. for being there... for still being here."

"you're welcome, annie...I'll always be here for you...I promise. "
