Deku was really trying hard to stay positive but it was hard when all he wanted to do was yell at both Kacchan and Aizawa right now. They were in the second day of their week-long survival camp, and he just wanted to sit down and give up. The jungle was humid as hell the first day making them both grumpy and irritable. Now the second day the weather gave them nonstop rain. This did not help Kacchan’s mood since the rain messed with his quirk sometimes and now any little thing was setting him off. Deku was exhausted emotionally since before they even arrived since Kacchan seemed on a mission to be angry with him and berate him for even breathing. Their argument got so bad on the bus that Aizawa punished them with having to be a two-man team for the exercise. Literally yelling at them “learn to work together or fail and be stuck in the jungle forever, because I am not paid enough for this shit.” Deku knows he didn’t mean it but now being stuck without supervision has been draining.
“Oi, goddam nerd. What are you spacing out for? Are you really slacking off and leaving all the work for me?” Kacchan’s yells startled Deku.
Deku being done with life turned glaring eyes on to Kacchan and responded with “I don’t know Kacchan… am I even allowed to do anything since I only screw things up?” He knew he was being testy but Deku had already been yelled at for not putting the tent away correctly, not getting enough of the “right” wood for a fire, and then tripping and stumbling into Kacchan.
“What the hell did you say to me nerd?” Kacchan stomped over to Deku and stood menacingly over him.
Deku in his anger glared right back at him “You heard me Kacchan.” He watched as Kacchan’s eyes widened for a moment before going blank again. “Is the useless Deku even allowed to do anything?”
Kacchan leaned over even more putting their faces so close together that even though Deku flushed with anger and something else that he does not want to admit he stood his ground.
“Don’t put words into my mouth your shitty nerd.”
“I don’t know what you want from me Kacchan. Everything I do is wrong, everything I say pisses you off. All your actions tell me how much you hate me, but then I try to be quiet and do nothing and then I get yelled at and blamed for that too. God dammit Bakugou…. W-would it… would… What would make you happy?” Deku caught himself before saying something he really never wanted to bring up.
Kacchan seemed to understand that Deku was holding back but bit his tongue for the first time in his life. As the rain started to pelt them even harder now than before he finally looked at Deku, his childhood friend turned bullying victim to rival to what now? Kacchan could never understand all the intense emotions Deku would bring out in him. It made him feel so weak so instead of dealing with the really problem he pushed the Deku away. Especially after 5 days ago in which eh saw the nerd once again do his self-sacrificing shit and get hurt, albeit minimally thankfully, but hurt none the less, and couldn’t handle all the emotions that swelled up in him. So, he fell back to his normal coping mechanism of shutting Deku out.
Now looking at Deku he could feel those emotions wanting to break free and instead of losing his shit he finally saw the exhaustion on Deku’s face and for once tried to control himself.
“Look nerd, I know we are both at our wits end. But let’s get to the next checkpoint and then we can talk. Ok?”
Deku took a big deep calming breath and saw that Kacchan was being serious about his offer to talk so he decided to nod his head and follow him. They walked for the next mile in silence watching as the storm did not want to let up. The ground was beginning to become very slippery. From the map they knew there was a nearby road to a small town, but they needed to head a little further east before they could make camp. As they were making their trek up a hill, they both started hearing a lot of noise, from birds flying frantically, to trees and plants moving, to also the sound of rocks banging against each other.
With terror in their eyes both Kacchan and Deku realized what was heading their way as they saw a wave of mud makes its way down to them. Kacchan quickly reached out his hand to Deku to try and grab onto him. Deku held on tight and as both started to activate their quirks to get away, they were suddenly slammed into one another. AS everything around them began to move with them Deku felt his head slam into something before he quickly lost consciousness.
