“Oh god…. Oh please, god, no!”

Summary:

“Oh god…. Oh please, god, no!”

A little drabble based on a writing prompt.

Work Text:

They weren’t in class today. That fact was enough to spoil Floyd’s mood for the rest of the day. Once this old man drawl finished he’d find them, reprimand them for leaving him alone in a boring class. He huffed, toning out the lesson, mind wandering to them and he wondered what they were up to. They hardly missed class, unless he forced them, of course.

The room seemed to get quiet for a moment. But it was all that was needed. The unholy scream of a person sounded from just outside the window as they fell to the ground below. The scream had cut off by the time students crowded and looked out the window. Floyd, being the closest, looked out and down. His lips fell apart as his curious gaze changed.

Floyd snarled and shoved people aside, running out of the room and to the front of the building, where the body had fallen. Other students had already begun to crowd and no teachers had arrived to resolve the issue.

The eel twin used his unnatural strength to shove others out of the way. That was when he caught sight of the familiar form of his lover. Tears coated his eyes quickly and he let out a scream. He ran to their side, pulling their head into his lap. Tears fell down his cheeks as he fawned over them. A trail of blood had trailed down their chin and their eyes looked empty and out at nothing.

“Oh god! Oh please, god no!” He screamed checking for a pulse and finding it faint…. Or did he imagine it? “Please!” He held them to his chest, rocking their body, wishing for the pain to go away.

Azul and Jade pushed themselves through the crowd, closely followed by Crowley, Trein, and Crewel. Azul and Jade were stunned still as they stared at Floyd.

“Oh dear,” Crowley spoke. “Clear the students please.” He told his associates. The two other teachers nodded and began to usher the crowd away. Azul and Jade were allowed to stay. Jade moved and knelt at his brother’s side as Floyd cried and held his partner’s body.

“Floyd.” Jade tried, but Floyd lashed out, snarling and baring his teeth at his twin, staring up at him with the most broken gaze Jade had ever seen.

“Mr. Leech. Please. We must take them to the infirmary.” Floyd was hardly listening. He didn’t want to part from them. Not while they were like this. His grip on them tightened as he glared up at the headmaster. “If there is any chance at saving them.” Crowley knelt down so he was at eye level with the distraught leech twin. “You can bring them yourself.”

That got Floyd’s attention and the boy attempted getting to his feet without jostling their body too much. His body though had grown weak and his knees shook. He clenched his jaw willing himself steady and he began to walk to the infirmary.

Hours later, the eel twin paced outside the infirmary after being forced from his lover’s side. His jaw ached from clenching it for hours. His whole body felt numb due to his pacing and the overwhelming surge of emotions that seemed to refuse to go away. Tears still fell down his face but he no longer felt them.

Jade remained by his brother, though sitting on a bench nearby. Azul had checked on them both several times. Nothing Jade said seemed to get through to Floyd. Everything went in one ear and out the other. There were points Jade was sure his brother hadn’t heard a word he said. He hated seeing his twin like this.

It felt like an eternity before the doctor came out. Dread filled Floyd’s being at the look on his face. He swore he would stop breathing. The man didn’t look at Floyd for a moment. He sighed, almost gaining the strength, before speaking.

Jade looked at the doctor in disbelief.

Floyd’s knees gave out underneath him, the world became quiet around him as he stared at the floor. No. This wasn’t supposed to happen. Why? Why did this happen? Why did it happen to them?

The eel twin finally let the tears fall and he screamed. The pain overtook his heart as he screamed into the halls. He brought his hands over his mouth as he sobbed. It wouldn’t stop. It would never stop. It hurt so much.

It was only an instant. But he had lost them.
