Work Text:
Since your late teenage years, you’ve spent nearly all those years beside Toji. Being hopelessly in love in the start, and getting married in your early twenties, Toji saw and knew everything about you; the good, the bad, the ugly, and so on. And he adored everything about you.
The first few years of marriage was perfect; everything you hoped and dreamed for. But as work picked up, he wasn’t home much anymore. And when he was home, it was time spent relaxing or sleeping. He was so caught up in work that he didn’t notice he was slowly losing you, losing time to his work as it consumed him.
It was early morning when he first began to notice. He awoke-you weren’t in bed. He heard soft music and dishes clattering from downstairs. Sleepily, he walked downstairs to your figure at the sink, arms wrapping lovingly around your waist and peppering kisses from your neck to your shoulder. You shrugged him away, not bothering to look at him as you spoke, “No work?” Your voice sounded distant, as if your mind was lingering elsewhere.
“No work.” he confirmed, chin resting on your shoulder. You didn’t say anything else after that, besides the occasional humming to whatever song you had playing.
As weeks passed, on each of his days off he noticed how distant you seemed; Your eyes didn’t light up with excitement when you saw him anymore, your conversations were short and usually about the topic of work. Whenever Toji kissed you, he noticed your kiss was hesitant. Not the lust-filled, excited kisses like he’d received since you both were younger. How with every touch he’d give you, you’d shrug him away. He had finally realized how unhappy you’ve gotten-with your life with him. And it pained him, because he loved you so.
He did this all for you, worked his ass off to pay for the roof over your head, to buy you whatever you requested. But you both knew there was only so much of your husband’s absence you could take before it affected you both.
Toji would kiss you, and you would kiss back. But for once, he opened his eyes as he kissed you, and was immediately met with your own. You looked at him, your eyes telling him all he needed to know.
“What’s wrong?” he had asked, pulling away from you. You shook your head, sighing softly. “Nothing, Toji.” you answered, rising from your seat on the couch and beginning to walk away from him. His hand reached out to your wrist, causing you to stop in your tracks. “You’ve been distant lately,” he spoke softly, thumb running over your hand. “You’ve hardly been home lately. I’m bored. I have nothing to do around the house, but wait for you to come home. And once you are home, its the same. I’ll get over this soon, I hope.” Your voice had little to no emotion, and it made his heart sink to his stomach.
“I do everything I can to spend time with you. I work to provide us with everything we need. You know I love you, right?” For once, Toji couldn't read your expression. He was confused, heart and mind both racing as he awaited for your response. “I hope you do.” you whispered, bottom lip beginning to tremble. “I just miss you. I miss doing things with you. I can’t keep doing this. I want to live out my younger years while I still can.” you confined to him, tears rolling down your cheeks. It was almost like he heard his heart shatter at that moment.
“I wouldn’t work if I didn’t have to,” Toji began, pulling you by the wrist towards him. “I’m trying my hardest to make you happy.” He finished, arms wrapping around your trembling shoulders as you sobbed into his shirt. “I don’t feel the same love like I used to. My mind lingers, I daydream about things.” you admitted into his chest, now full-on crying. Your hands dug into his chest, his shirt being balled up into your fists.
Toji was completely torn, having realized the love of his life didn’t feel loved because of him . That the love of his life wasn’t happy, because of him . He never thought he would be in this position, nor did he ever hope to be. You, on the other hand, felt so selfish. Deep down you knew Toji worked so hard to pay bills, but every day as you sit at home alone you can’t help but to daydream about the life he promised you’d have so many years ago. Of course, you knew it was exaggerated then, but could you complain when his work was taking up all his time and energy?
You both stood in silence as you sobbed into his chest, Toji’s mind racing as he tried to find words to say to comfort you. He hated seeing you like this, he never wanted or even dreamed of you feeling this way. “I love you.” Was all he managed to say, your response being sniffles.
“I’m sorry for being so selfish. I know you work hard for us, but I miss you.” You managed to squeak out as you began to calm down, face moving away from his chest. Toji soothingly ran his hand through your hair and down to the small of your back, a loving and reassuring squeeze to the area following. “I never wanted you to feel this way.” he murmured softly, eyes scanning your face. “I’m just being selfish, I should be grateful. I am, honestly. I just want my husband around more. Like how things used to be.”
But to hope for the way things used to be where you two were much younger and carefree was like encountering the sun burst and the world surviving.

Toji noticed your mood had improved, having picked up a cute job as a barista. You loved coffee and sweets; it was perfect for you.
What Toji also noticed was your recent fondness for your phone. You were on it so much, fingers flying as you texted someone. How your sex-drive suddenly increased, your kisses lustful and excited. Of course, he couldn’t help but to think it wasn’t because of him. It was tearing him apart, seeing his wife grow happy by the hands of someone else- or at least that’s what he thought.
He was losing his mind, his work still the same; Long days at work and coming home to his beloved wife who was in a much better mindset now. He was happy for you, yes, but his mind wandered as to who or what could’ve filled you with so much joy. His suspicions got the best of him, as one night as you showered your phone dinged from your side of the bed, and he couldn’t help but to pick it up and unlock it.
Naoya :3
Still owe me a coffee. Or a shirt, whichever u prefer ;)
Naoya? There was only one man Toji knew by that name, and it was his cousin that he doesn’t speak to nor let anyone know he’s related to; his wife being included in that matter. There was no way it was the Naoya he knew, right? Toji’s thumb swiped along the screen, scrolling through the countless and seemingly endless messages you had with Naoya. Of course, his worries were confirmed when he saw a picture of you and the Naoya he knew posing together, a grin plastered on both your faces.
What the fuck.
Toji exhaled deeply, his brows furrowing as he searched through your messages more. Could you be having an affair? No. You wouldn’t do that to him. Right? He completely disregarded hearing you exiting the shower, humming softly as you scurried around in the bathroom. He was irritated, and was finding a way to confront you about your most recent behavior.
It wasn’t until he scrolled further that he saw a text message you had sent to Naoya, that read: You made me so wet :(
By now, his blood was boiling and he sneered your name, rising from the bed. “Who the fuck is Naoya?” his voice boomed, causing you to yelp as the bathroom door swung open. Your eyes widened and you clutched the towel wrapped around yourself, mind racing. “A coworker,” you began, eyes trailing to your phone in his hand. “Were you snooping through my phone?”
“What? I can’t look at my wife’s phone? You have something to hide?” He growled in response, hand gripping your phone so tightly he thought it would shatter. “I have nothing to hide, what are you so angry about? He’s simply a coworker.” your brows were now furrowed, and Toji’s eyes scanned your face for any hint that you may be lying.
“Don’t even start, you and I both know if you caught me texting a female coworker you’d break hell,” he spat, shoving the phone in your face to show you the text message you sent to him. “You been cheating on me now because I work to provide for us?” He questioned, biting the inside of his cheek.
You were completely baffled, eyes blown out and heart thudding. “No, Toji. He spilled a drink on me and I had to run home to change my clothes,” you answered, a soft chuckle of disbelief leaving your lips. “You think I’d cheat on you? And throw away the years we’ve spent together?”
Toji tasted metal and realized how hard he had been biting his cheek, his mind at a loss for words. “Well, when you say you feel like I don’t love you enough and then you start texting this guy, what the fuck else am I supposed to think? You’ve been so much fucking happier, and it all picked up when you got the job and starting texting other men.” His words were rushed, and his chest felt heavy. Toji was never one to cry, you’d hardly seen him cry in the time he’s been with you. “It shows how weak a man is, and I’m not weak.” is what he’d tell you. But the moment you saw his eyes tear up, in the blink of an eye your arms were wrapped around Toji, head pressed into his chest and squeezing around him.
“Fuck,” he breathed out, head dropping and temple resting against the top of your head. He felt the hot tears streaming down his face-and he wasn’t too sure why he was crying. Was it from the overwhelming amount of work? Or the possibility of his own cousin bringing him the happiness to his wife that he couldn’t? He just didn’t know. But as your hand slid up and down his back soothingly, your voice soft and mumbled against his chest, he knew he had nothing to worry about.
“I’m trying so hard for you,” he murmured, feeling as though he was breaking. He was just so exhausted. Exhausted from work, exhausted about trying to make his wife happy; just everything that was on his shoulders was tearing him apart.
You held him as his body trembled against you, and it made your heart ache. You knew Toji was trying hard for you, you knew he just needed a break from work and the life you two had. You wanted to comfort him the best you could, and you knew the best way to do that would be to hold him and let him cry it all out; Despite how rarely this ever happened.
“Come, let’s go to bed.” You whispered softly, head rising from his chest to look up at the man. His eyes were red and nose slightly puffy, and it broke your heart. Standing on your tippy toes, you pressed a soft kiss to his lips, before letting your arms fall from him. He nodded, feeling your hand slide into his as you led him to your shared bed. He climbed in, laying on his side and arm stretched out for you. He watched with sniffles as you threw on one of his shirts and a pair of underwear, before hastily climbing into his arms and burying your face into his neck. “I love you, Toji.” you whispered, your arms and legs wrapping around the large man.
He didn’t respond, lost in his own thoughts and feelings as he wiped the tears from his cheeks, exhaling deeply. You tilted your head up, peppering soft kisses along his jawline and slowly up to his lips, where you pecked them softly, a grin slowly creeping up to your face as you noticed a smile of his own began to form. One of his large hands came up to cup your cheek, leaning in to press his lips against yours. For the first time in a while, he felt as though the love in his kiss was reciprocated. You couldn’t help but to giggle into the kiss, pulling away as it became small laughter.
“You’re so good to me,” he mumbled, a small smile on his lips. “Just stop talking to Naoya, for me.” You hummed in response, hands cupping his face and running your thumbs along his cheeks. “Of course, my love. Can I know the reason why?” your eyes trailed from his scarred lips to his eyes, and you couldn’t help to feel the butterflies as he stared into your own. “He’s the cousin,” he began, and your eyes widened before you pressed your thumb to his lips to hush him from talking. Toji had told you long ago that a cousin of his is what made the scar, and his few words was enough to let you know why. “No more, I’ll stop texting him and only speak to him when needed to.” you cut him off, and he smiled softly before pressing his lips back against yours.
“I love you,” he murmured against your lips, his figure turning you over as he straddled himself above you. You giggled softly, feeling as his lips trailed down to your neck. You’ve always been so ticklish, and Toji always thought it was so adorable. Hearing your laughter was enough to bring him to his own, and he leaned back to look at you one more time.
“Let me show you how much I love you.”
