Work Text:
The remedial course was decent, a bit of training here and there, a lot of discipline work, but other than that, they were going pretty smoothly.
But of course, Bakugou just had to jinx it.
“You want us to do WHAT?!” Enraged, Bakugou clenched his fists letting the room fill with crackling sounds as he warmed up his quirk.
Gang Orca eyed him with a plain expression. “I’ve already explained it. You and Todoroki need to work on your teamwork. You normally work alone, but we’re far stronger together-”
“That’s cheesy as hell.” Bakugou interrupted, crossing his arms. “Plus, how is locking us in a room going to help with any of that?”
Gang Orca sighed, dragging a hand down his face. “You wouldn’t understand.”
“Try me.”
“You like Todoroki don’t you?”
Bakugou coughed loudly, purely out of instinct. Thank god Todoroki wasn’t listening and talking to Yoarashi instead. Even if Bakugou may or may not have felt extremely jealous, he’d rather that than Todoroki find out about his small crush.
Okay, maybe it’s not that small.
“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Bakugou muttered, his tone lacking its usual bite.
“Sure you don’t.” Gang Orca shook his head.
“I really-” Bakugou started, but snapped his jaw shut when he noticed Todoroki walking in their direction.
“Ah, Todoroki, just the person I wanted to see.”
Todoroki looked around the room. “Me?”
“Yes. Do you have a moment?”
“I guess.”
And with that, they both walked out of the room.
“What the hell is wrong with him…” Bakugou muttered, just quiet enough for no one to hear.
Bakugou quickly scanned the room, looking for people that might be mildly interesting to talk to. But since everyone else left was just a brain-dead loser, he opted instead to lean against the most isolated wall he could find, and ignore everyone.
A couple of people, including Yoarashi, tried to start a conversation, but they ended up leaving once they realized there was no possible way they could get Bakugou to say anything. He was too lost in thought anyways. He could not figure out how the heck Gang Orca knew about his crush. Was he really that obvious?
No, that’s not it. After all, he had just realized his feelings a couple of weeks ago. He didn’t even have any time to be obvious. Plus, at least one other person would have noticed, right?
“I mean, I guess they could’ve noticed, but just not said anything… after all, I don’t really talk to anyone other than Todoroki…”
Bakugou kept mumbling to himself, waiting for Todoroki to return, and once he did, Todoroki gave him a glance he couldn’t comprehend.
Confusion maybe?
Bakugou couldn’t really tell. However, it didn’t matter now since both Gang Orca and Todoroki were making their way towards him. What he wouldn’t give to have a teleportation quirk right about now.
“I’m sure you both understand what’s about to happen?” Gang Orca asked as the two stopped near Bakugou.
“Sadly yes,” Bakugou grumbled, keeping his gaze at the ground.
“I understand as well,” Todoroki said dryly.
Why exactly had Bakugou fallen for him? In reality, he had no clue. Todoroki wasn’t even his type. So why, why had he fallen for him so hard?
“Good, I’ll lead you to the room.” Gang Orca said, showing the same lack of emotion as Todoroki.
Maybe they’re related. Bakugou thought to himself, then snorted, earning a confused glance from Todoroki.
He didn’t mention it though and opted to follow instead as Gang Orca turned on his heel and started walking.
They were walking for what Bakugou felt to be ages. They had recently entered a dimly lit corridor that seemed to stretch on for miles, with so little light you couldn’t see when the hallway ended. If Bakugou didn’t know any better, he’d say they were going to be kidnapped. Luckily, he didn’t need to worry about being kidnapped again, as they were finally nearing the end of the hall, coming up to a single door.
“Dude, this is extremely sketchy,” Bakugou said as he eyed the steel door at the end of the hall.
“As much as I’d rather not agree with Bakugou, this is indeed ‘sketchy’” Todoroki agreed blandly.
“What the hell icyhot!” Bakugou snapped, shooting an explosion that just missed his face.
In retaliation, Todoroki used his right foot to send ice across the floor, freezing Bakugou’s feet to the ground, rendering him immobile. Bakugou has had enough. He was just about to blow his feet—and now quite a bit of his legs—free and completely clobber the idiot when Gang Orca stepped in.
“See?” Gang Orca asked. “This is exactly why you guys need this.” He explained, unlocking the steel door and gesturing for them to go inside, and they complied. “I won’t let you out until you either, run out of time—which is very unlikely since you have the whole weekend—or make up and get along at least semi decently.”
Bakugou frowned. Like hell they were going to make up. “Like that’s going to-”
Gang Orca shut the door on them before he could respond. Whatever. Like he cared.
However, when he turned around to analyze the room, he immediately changed his mind.
He was in a state of immense panic.
All in all, the room was nothing out of the ordinary, probably even something you would expect to be at the end of a creepy corridor. No windows, a small kitchen, with barely enough food to last a couple of days, and other than the door they came in, the only other door led to a small bathroom, fit for a prisoner. All that Bakugou was fine with. It was the fact that there was only a single bed that really ticked him off. Who in their right mind would lock two, very gayteenagers in a room for 2 and a half days with only a single bed?
Not that they were going to do anything of course.
God.
Bakugou was going to die.
It was probably around four-thirty in the afternoon by now, school that day had just ended when they had headed straight over to the remedial courses. Big mistake on Bakugou’s part. After all, he was the one rushing them out of the dorms. Not that he’d ever admit that of course.
Bakugou glanced at Todoroki, who was also surveying the room. However, he looked a thousand times more calm than Bakugou.
“Oi, half n’ half,” Bakugou called, making his way over to the kitchen as he looked around at the ingredients they had. God he was starving. He hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast.
“Hm?”
“You hungry?”
“No.”
“Suit yourself.” Bakugou shrugged as he grabbed an apple and started slicing it expertly. What can he say? He knows his way around a knife.
Wait- that sounded wrong.
He cooks a lot is what he meant.
Meanwhile, while Bakugou was fixing himself something to eat, Todoroki sat down mindlessly against a wall and started thinking.
First things first, he needed to stay calm. Showing too much of a reaction would certainly attract Bakugou's attention, and that was the last thing he needed right now. He had spent so long trying not to associate with the blonde and to stay out of his way, but Bakugou just had to make everything infinitely more complicated.
Especially when it comes to feelings.
Yeah. Todoroki may or may not definitely have a crush on the blonde. Exactly why he liked the angry pomeranian was a mystery. But Todoroki hadn’t been able to take his mind off Bakugou for some time now.
He would think about Bakugou daily. What it would be like to kiss him, how holding his hand would feel, and… other stuff that certainly were not appropriate to think about when the fantasies included the person he was currently locked in a room with.
Why did fate have to be so cruel?
Emotional crisis aside, he needed to act calm. Not just for his sake, but he really didn't want Bakugou to feel uncomfortable around him. After all, it must be weird knowing someone has a crush on you when you don’t like them back.
So, Todoroki will keep his feelings hidden, as he’s done countless times before. It doesn't matter if the emotions are happy, angry or even affection, they will always hurt someone in the end. Especially since his quirk grows unstable when emotions become too intense.
Keep your emotions to yourself. You'll always hurt someone. Maybe end a life. No one cares how you're feeling anyways, so it should be easy. That’s what his dad has told him so many years ago.
Even if he disobeys his father all the time, that’s the one thing he could never shake. The words were beat into his skull so many times he couldn't do anything else even if he had tried.
So, there he was, sitting blankly against a wall, hiding his emotions. Sure, maybe all the built-up anger and hate and sadness probably wasn't a good thing. But he didn’t care anymore. He really didn't. Who cares if he has a mental breakdown every couple of months? Certainly not his dad.
“You know Bakugou, I am actually quite hungry.” Todoroki deadpanned.
“Hell no. I’m not making you anything. Make something yourself. You can starve for all I care.” Bakugou retaliated.
“Good point. However, last time I tried cooking, I burnt down our kitchen.” Todoroki smirked to himself. His lack of cooking experience always comes in handy. Bring up one of the many stories where he absolutely ruined the kitchen, and free meal, no work needed.
“Holy shit really?!”
Todoroki simply nodded. “And if you want to live to see tomorrow, I suggest keeping me away from anything that’s used to make food.”
“Noted.” Bakugou said, and after a while added, “What do you want?”
“Cold soba.”
“Of course you do.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“You know very well what that means. Soba is the only thing you ever eat. Why not try something new for once?”
Todoroki rolled his eyes.
Bakugou walked over to Todoroki and grasped his wrist firmly. “Come here.”
It took Todoroki's brain a second to comprehend what was happening, but once he finally realized what was going on, a slight blush started creeping its way into his face. Luckily for him though, Bakugou wasn't paying enough attention to notice, instead, he was busy taking out random ingredients.
“Bakugou... What are you doing?” Todoroki asked as he watched the blonde take out multiple different types of tomatoes.
“I’m going to teach you how to make food for yourself.”
Although Todoroki was slightly disappointed that he needed to cook, at least it was Bakugou teaching him.
“Okay, stand here,” Bakugou instructed, directing him to a makeshift cutting board. “Cut these peppers please.” He ordered, gesturing to multiple red peppers.
“Uhm, okay,” Todoroki muttered, grabbing a knife and clumsily starting to cut the peppers. However, he was barely halfway through the first one when Bakugou shook his head.
“How are you so bad at this?” Bakugou rolled his eyes as he wrapped his arms around Todoroki's from behind.
“What are you-”
With a firm grip on Todoroki's hands, Bakugou went through the motion of cutting the peppers, all while giving tips and pointers.
There were probably some important pointers mentioned, but all Todoroki could focus on was Bakugou's body pressed against his back, his strong arms wrapping around his own.
It took a while for Bakugou to realize Todoroki wasn’t fully paying attention, but eventually, he finally realized. “And that’d be the… Todoroki, are you paying attention?”
Todoroki blinked. “Yes?”
Bakugou let his grip on Todoroki loosen as he slid his arms away and walked over to grab more ingredients. “Okay, name one thing I said.”
Bakugou grinned at Todoroki’s speechlessness. “What, too distracted by my loving embrace?” He teased, although, he’d be lying if he said he didn’t love the idea.
“I was-” Before he could finish, Bakugou had cut him off by throwing his head back and cackling.
Once his laughter died down, Bakugou leaned against the kitchen countertop and smirked. “Relax Halfie. I was joking.”
Todoroki let out a sigh of relief as he watched Bakugou get back to cooking.
While Bakugou definitely liked teasing him, Todoroki didn’t like being on the receiving end of said teasing with their relationship status right now. Sure, if they were dating, Todoroki wouldn’t mind, it could even be considered cute. But alas, much to Todoroki’s dismay, they were merely friends.
Todoroki pushed himself upwards to sit on the countertop as he continued watching Bakugou cook.
Oh how he wished Bakugou would be by his side forever.
Laying his back down on the countertop and letting his legs hang over the side, Todoroki recalled what Gang Orca had told him.
“I’m going to need you to confess to Bakugou.” Gang Orca had said.
Todoroki never normally got flustered, being an expert at hiding his emotions and all. However, when those words left his mouth, Todoroki immediately looked away, blushing ever so faintly. “I- I have no Idea what you’re talking about.”
Gang Orca just shook his head. “That’s the problem with you two. Both of you are incredibly stubborn.”
Todoroki looked back at him and tilted his head. “What do you mean?”
Gang Orca just shook his head. “And apparently incredibly oblivious too.” He patted Todoroki’s head as he gestured for him to follow. “That’s why I’m doing this. You’ll hopefully realize-”
“Realize what?”
Todoroki was just met with a loud sigh.
“If this goes well, you’ll find out soon enough.” He-
“Oi, Halfie, you dead?”
Todoroki opened his eyes and looked around before sitting upright. “Huh?”
Bakugou handed him a plate. “Food. Eat.”
Todoroki blinked a couple of times before silently taking the plate out of his hands.
They ended up eating in complete silence, which, Todoroki will admit, was incredibly awkward.
Not to mention he had been silently debating confessing right then and there just to get it over with.
He’d already vowed not to let Bakugou in on his feelings, yet, would it just be easier to get it over with? Gang Orca seemed pretty confident in him. He didn’t know why though.
Gang Orca had spoken as if there was something he knew that Todoroki didn’t.
Maybe, just maybe Bakugou liked him back. However, the second that thought crossed his mind, he immediately shut it down. Bakugou hated him, and that was that.
Yawning, Todoroki made his way over to the bed in the center of the room, sighing happily as he collapsed onto the bed. It had definitely been a busy day. So busy, in fact, that his brain decided to stop working and completely forget about Bakugou’s existence. After all, he thoughts have been all over the place since he got her.
“What… are you doing?” Bakugou asked, skeptically eyeing Todoroki as he laid happily on the bed.
“If you think I’m going to sleep on the floor you are sorely mistaken.” Todoroki replied, then smiled inwardly, happy to have been able to formulate a response. “Now, if you’ll excuse me,” he said, getting under the covers on the left side of the bed and laying down. “If you want to sleep on the floor that’s fine with me.” Todoroki said, attempting a shrug while laying on his side. That was actually about as far from the truth as he could get, but he wouldn’t let Bakugou know that.
“Shit” Bakugou muttered quietly enough that Todoroki wouldn’t hear.
He had two options, one, go and join Todoroki in the bed, which, he would like more than he’s willing to admit, or, two, stay put right where he was standing. An equally enticing offer.
But, he desperately needed his full 10 hours of sleep, and he wasn’t planning on falling asleep on the floor any time soon.
So, with extreme hesitation, he slowly walked over to the side of the bed opposite to Todoroki, and laid down under the covers.
Whatever he was saying originally about beauty sleep would need to be ignored as Bakugou was certain there was no way he was falling asleep now. He was pretty sure Todoroki would be able to hear his increasingly rapid heartbeat from where he was laying, a couple inches away.
A couple inches.
Bakugou had just now realized how close they were, and, honestly?
He was ready to die.
Someone kill me please. He thought to himself, suddenly thankful he was facing the opposite direction to Todoroki. Maybe I’ll be lucky and a meteorite will come crashing through the ceiling.
Too caught up in his own thoughts, Bakugou didn’t notice Todoroki, who had rolled over and was now facing Bakugou’s back.
It took Todoroki poking him on the back to fully snap him out of his thoughts.
“What is it?” Bakugou asked, his tone laced with annoyance as he rolled over to face Todoroki, finally realizing how close they were laying.
Todoroki looked at Bakugou as he was regretting all of his life decisions. “Bakugou… I…”
Bakugou could feel Todoroki’s breath against his face and now more than ever, he was ready to get hit by that meteor. “If you have something to say, fucking say it Halfie.” Bakugou spat, or at least tired to, but the close proximity to Todoroki made his words come out quiet and raspy.
Fuck his life.
Todoroki sighed leaning even closer to Bakugou. “I like you.”
Bakugou’s brain shut down.
“Ah, so much for not saying anything.” Todoroki sighed quietly.
Bakugou laid there, unmoving, staring at Todoroki.
“You… what?”
“Ah, so you don’t like me back. Well that’s fine then. Sorry for making this awkward.” Todoroki said quietly, disappointment evident in his voice.
“No no wait.” Bakugou inhaled deeply, attempting to calm his shaky voice. “I just didn’t expect that. Give me a moment to process the fact that the hottest dude in our class likes me back.”
Now it was Todoroki’s turn to be speechless.
At this point, the awkwardness was getting sad.
As they lay there in silence, Bakugou moved even closer to Todoroki, resting their foreheads together. “I’m not great with feelings and shit, but… I like you too or… whatever.”
Todoroki inhaled sharply, looking directly into Bakugou’s eyes. He had to be dreaming. This was a dream. He fell asleep and Bakugou was sleeping on the floor and-
Oh.
Oh.
While he was panicking, Bakugou leaned in, pressing a kiss on Todoroki’s lips.
Todoroki was sure he was going to die as he immediately kissed Bakugou back.
And if he wasn’t going to die before, Todoroki was certain he was going to when Bakugou let his hands slip past the fabric of his shirt and rub the skin of his back lovingly.
Without breaking the kiss, Todoroki moved his hands to the back of Bakugou’s head, where his fingers became quickly tangled in his hair.
They only pulled away for a small moment for them each to catch their breath before leaning in again, kissing passionately.
They were so lost in the taste and feel of the other, that they didn’t seem to notice when the door opened, an annoyed Gang Orca walking in.
“Okay apparently locking two teens in a room is a ‘bad idea’ or whatever but-” Gang Orca cut himself off as he stood there, looking at the two students who had finally noticed him, pulling away quickly, blushing profusely. It was quite obvious what they had been doing.
“Well, looks like you two are finally getting along.”
