Work Text:
Elijah's breath is hot against the shell of Hayley's ear, words sounding soft and distant in her ears.
"Mmhm" she finds herself murmuring finger tips dragging down his neck, dipping beneath the collar of his shirt to feel his chest. Heat creeps into her cheeks, ears burning at the feeling of eyes on her.
Hungry
Scorching everything they touch, marking an invisible path down her jaw, along her hands and then back again.Shameless.
Elijah sighs heavily, his eyes falling shut but the heat never breaks. How could it when Rebekah is staring at her so openly, blue eyes dark with the need to devour. To break. Pink lips parted and she swears she can see the shape of her name in them.
"Come here" she whispers into the empty air, pressing tender kisses against Elijah's neck. Her mind lost in the sea of blue just over his shoulder.
Rebekah's breath hitches, wine glass popping under her crushing grip. Shards of glass dig into her skin. Huh and yet the ache in her hand is almost comforting. A welcome distraction from a much more painful wound.
"Get a room" she snaps, heels crackling on broken glass as she heads for the door
//
Outside the air is thick, alive
It curls around Rebekah like a snake and leaves her out of breath, gasping for air. Bloody Louisiana heat.
She feels empty, painfully so. Her chest burns with something other than anger, Hunger? When was the last time she fed? She can't say, can't remember, at least not with all this noise. Not with that heart beating strong and slow behind her like the opening to a familiar song.
It's absolutely maddening.
Then its gone, the beat falling away to the feeling of strong fingers on her wrist dragging her back into Hayley's orbit.
"Where are you going?"
"I have things to do, not all of us can be locked away Rapunzel." she dismisses without so much as a glance back.
"You're afraid."
"Im not"
"You can't even look at me" Hayley growls, fingers itching to drag Rebekah closer, turn her around so they're face to face. "You're so afraid to admit what you want."
"I said I'm not, you just wont accept that I don't want you" She hisses
"No. You don't get to do this to me over and over again. To us. You whisper your love every night like a promise, only to break it the next morning."
"My love, there was never an us to begin with
"Yeah and who's to blame for that? tell me how does it feel to live 1,000 years without a spine?"
The scuff of heels is the only sound to let Rebekah know she was moving, had turned around, blinded by the pain of memories.
Of sacrifice
Her fingers always closing around empty air.
Now they hook into warm hips, pinning them between her body and the weathered pillar.
"Ill show you what 1,000 years of loss tastes like"
