During his summer breaks, Hayden Pike sleeps for as long as possible. With a house filled with children the moment one wakes up the house devolves into chaos. So he didn't appreciate whoever was calling him at 6 am.
“Answer that before it wakes up the kids.” Jackie mumbled as she rolled over drifting back to sleep.
Pike sat up and grabbed his phone to his surprise Ilya Rozanov was calling him. Pike counted to stare at his phone as a missed call notification popped up.
Why would Rozanov be calling him? Was Shane okay? His phone started ringing again with Rozanov’s caller id.Something was definitely wrong.
Jackie sat up looking at Pike angrily “I swear Hayden if you don’t”
“ I’m answering it don’t worry” Pike replayed
“ go take the call outside,” she said as she laid back down.
Pike got up and head to the porch connected to the master bedroom.
Pike “ hello? Rozanov ? is Shane-”
Rozanov “what car seat do you own”
P “What?”
R “ car seat Pike. you place children into them when driving a car”
P “ rozanov it's too early to be an asshole. why do you need a car seat?”
R “ do not tell Shane”
P “ like hell. I'm not helping you keep secrets from him”
R “I will tell him I promise. I need your help please I don’t know what I am doing. I uh I- fuck” Rozanov preceded to start babbling in Russian sounding tired and panicked. which was highly unusual.
“Rozanov calm down I don’t speak Russian”
Rozanov stoped about “ i am sorry”
The call feel silent, pike took a deep breath before continuing the conversation.
“ tell me what's going on I won't tell Shane right away. But if you don't end up coming clean to him I’ll tell him myself”
An even longer pause than before passed. Pike was about to speak up again when Rozanov finally reposed.
“ I have a daughter.”
“ well shit rozanov”
“ yes. Her mother left her here and said she did not want her. I did not know I have a child. I have no food here, I need to go to the grocery but I do not have a car seat I can not leave her alone. Why are there so many car seats online…” and Rozanov started speaking in Russian again
“ Rozanov calm down I still don’t speak Russian.”
“Sorry again I am uh overwhelmed”
Pike felt bad for the guy he remembered being a wreck when he and jakie first became parents and they had nine months to prepare. Rozanov was just given a child he didn’t know existed.
“ So uh, what’s her name?” Pike asked trying to buy himself some time to process the situation.
“Everly”
“That’s a nice name.” because what else was Pike supposed to say.
“ thank you. I did not choose it”
“ yeah, I guested that do you know how old she is?”
“ three she is sleeping”
Pike took what must have been his sixth deep breath since starting this conversation.
“ Okay,Rozanov I’m going to wake up Jakie and the kids-”
“ There is no need to bother them” Rozanov cut in.
“Look Jakie will be able to help you more with getting everything you’ll need and I’m not staying alone with them all day. Well be there as soon as posable give the kid some cereal if she wakes up”
“ Okay thank you Hayden”
“ no problem man. See you soon”
Ending the call Hayden walked back to his room wondering how he was going to explain all of this to Jakie.
