Perfect

Summary:

It’s common belief among the people of Hyrule that these 'visions' you sometimes get belong to your soulmate. Typically, when you are viewing through their eyes, they would have no awareness of their invaded privacy. As exciting as that is, they too would have that privilege over your power of sight.

Fair and square, right?

Link and Zelda are soulmates. Buckle up, it's gonna get spicy.

Chapter Text

They say that at some point in your life, you will start having flashes of visions that are not yours. It’s common belief among the people of Hyrule that these visions belong to your soulmate. Typically, when you are viewing through the eyes of your soulmate for a generous fixed time span of thirty seconds, your soulmate would have no awareness of their invaded privacy. As exciting as that is, they too would have that privilege over your power of sight.

Fair and square, right?

You were only a wee child when you first experienced your flashes – they told you that despite your slow physical growth, this aspect came in quite quicker and earlier in your life than it did to others. Usually, flashing visions start at the age of ten, but you got yours at the too-soon age of five.

At this point in your life, you’ve had visions about three times now.

One night, you were just about to go to bed. Your mother had just passed away that morning from an illness that you couldn’t really understand. You were just a five-year-old after all. Death was a concept new to you. In any case, it was as if the Goddess Hylia was looking out for you, because that night was the first night you saw through your soulmate’s eyes.

She was in bed, just like you were. But unlike your small rickety wooden bed, hers was a large four poster bed. Your blanket was made from those low-quality, itchy, thin cotton material, while hers, from the looks of it, was from expensive, thick, and warm wool. As much as that surprises you, what really caught your attention was the woman sitting by her side. She was stroking your soulmate’s hair ever so lovingly, and you couldn’t help but feel your throat tightening up. You realized that the woman was her mother, and you guess, if things went well in your life, she’ll inevitably become your mom too. Papa calls Mama’s mother as ‘mom’, right? So, it would make sense. Either way, you basked in the comfort and love of another person’s mother, letting it soothe your lonely little young soul.

That night you cried yourself to sleep.

The second time it happened, it had been when your so-called friends told you that you couldn’t play with them. You really wanted to join in the fun and play tag with them all around Hateno, but they told you that you were too small to play with the big kids. It doesn’t even make sense; they were just a year or two older anyway. You ran away and hid yourself behind Ton Pu Inn. You wouldn’t admit it at this time, but you cried about it. That was when it happened.

Just like you, she was alone. Well, not really. She was walking through a large stone hallway, and although you see people around her, none of them paid much attention to her. Every single one of the adults she walked past were just standing there in front of a wall, wearing, what you thought, were very cool suits of armour. That would’ve been a dead giveaway of who your soulmate is, but you weren’t exactly a smart little cookie, so you were still in the dark about her identity. In any case, you were a little relieved that your soulmate was alone too, despite how fucked up that sounded. It wasn’t that you didn’t feel bad for her – you felt bad for her just as much as you felt bad for yourself, but there was a sense of comfort to know that you weren’t alone, and that she would probably understand how you feel right now. She wasn’t crying though, but still, likely, she’d get it – she’d get you. She’s your soulmate and that’s what’s comforting about it.

That was the day you asked your father about suits of armour. And after finding out that knights wore them, and that since your father was a knight, he had a pair himself, you made him proud when you decided and announced that you will be just like Papa. He never found out that the resolution didn’t come from the inspiration of him, but more to the curiosity of your soulmate.

The third vision came to you pretty randomly. As you were swinging around that wooden training sword your father gave you, you found yourself wondering what your soulmate did for fun. You thought that maybe you and her would have something in common – considering her significance, you really couldn’t help but wonder. Perhaps one day, when you meet her, the two of you could bond over your similar interests.

To your surprise, your curiosity was answered almost immediately, but what you didn’t expect was to see a pile of books in your face. Your soulmate’s eyes were focused on her writing and although she has the most elegant of handwritings you’ve ever seen, the fact that just from that, you could tell she was excited and passionate about this made you shrink back a little. There’s no way she likes studying of all things! As the little kid that you were, this information did not sit well with you. You thought that maybe the Goddess made a mistake when She assigned you your soulmate. You hated studying! You wanted to just play, play, and play! You cannot fathom the idea of having a soulmate who enjoys the things you hated.

But then again, children are overdramatic, and to be fair, you weren’t yet familiar with the term ‘opposites attract’.

So, yeah. Aside from that third vision – which wasn’t that big of a deal, but from the eyes of a child, it meant the world, the rest of your visions were easy and surprisingly comforting. It always brings you the feeling of joy when you catch the sight of a warm meal in front of her. You were relieved that she was eating well but Goddesses above, is that Salmon Meunière!? Your mouth would always start watering whenever you caught glimpses of the things she eats. It’s like she’s a princess or something, you always thought.

Which was a bit too on the nose.

Notes:

SO, I done did it again. I think I've come to enjoy writing a lot. I'm experimenting with POVs if you've noticed. My previous two works were all in first person POV (Link and Zelda POV each), and now we're in second person POV, with POVs alternating between Link and Zelda for each chapter! It's super fun experimenting like this ^.^

In any case, I hope you will enjoy this 9 chapter + epilogue work! I've actually already completed this fic, soooooo expect the next chapter tomorrow! Decided to pace the chapters by day so that I have the time to proofread them. Thank you for reading!
