Chapter Text
I slammed my backpack down on my bed with a force I didn’t know I had. The past month had been absolutely horrendous. I had just gotten back from the hospital after a failed suicide attempt and was, in no way, ready to resume my life. I scowled. Grabbing a shirt out of the bag, I set it gently on my dresser, deciding I would put it in the drawer later. My eyes flicked over to my desk, where a paper sat in a manilla envelope with a maroon wax seal. I definitely didn’t remember putting it there, so it spiked my curiosity. I abandoned the backpack and walked over to the paper, opening it carefully.
“Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at the Royal Academy of Diavolo. Please return this letter with your signature to confirm your participation. We are looking forward to welcoming you as part of our new exchange program. Yours sincerely, Diavolo.”
...What the fuck? Who put this here?
I immediately checked my window, which was locked, for any signs of a forced entry. Upon seeing there were none, I glanced back at the letter and read it over once more. I know I sure as hell didn’t apply to any schools, and didn’t Diavolo mean “devil” in Italian? Also, there was no return address. There weren't even any post stamps. It couldn’t have been mailed. It just materialized on my desk out of thin air.
Next to the letter was a feather, like the old-school kind used for writing. As if against my will, my hand picked it up and signed it without a second thought. The letter disappeared in a puff of smoke and the world started to spin.
