Don't Lawyers Feel Love Too?

Summary:

When college student Phoenix Wright is broken up with by his longtime girlfriend Dahlia Hawthorne, he is willing to move mountains to get her back. Or even go to law school, despite being an art major.

As a student of Harvard Law, Phoenix Wright finds himself struggling. Both to win back Dahlia's love, and to pass his classes.

And so, he enlists the help of a begrudging Miles Edgeworth, who at the very least can help him pass his classes. The man Miles Edgeworth is prickly and cold. He's unapproachable. At least, that's what he'd like people to believe.

The question is, can Phoenix break through Miles' hard exterior? And can he handle what he might find when be does?

Notes:

Chapters 1-5 are really just setting everything up so there's not a lot of Phoenix/Miles interactions. Those start at Chapter 6, really, just so you know what to expect.

Chapter 1 in particular just introduces Phoenix's friends at Ivy University, who we'll probably never see again after the setup is done, so yeah.

***DISCLAIMERS***

This only loosely follows the plot of Legally Blonde, with quite a few changes made to (in my opinion) better suit the characters.

I've also made a few of the characters older (Maya, Ema, Franziska) not to ship them with anyone, but just because they'd be too young for a college setting otherwise.

Additionally, this is my first work, and so please realize that writing/formatting may not be the best. Thanks.

Chapter Text

"Okay, but you're not seriously wearing that are you? On a day like today?" Maya seemed rather exasperated. Rather than waiting for an answer, she decided to rummage through his closet instead, looking for something she deemed more suitable.

Although, it did make Phoenix wonder. Was his outfit really that bad? It was pretty much a typical outfit for him: sneakers, jeans, and a sweater. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Instead of pondering it all day he decided to bite the bullet. "I mean...I was going to. Why, is there something wrong with it?" he asked.

"Nick!" She swatted his arm. "There is no way you could possibly think that's a proper engagement outfit." She paused to look at his face. He wasn't sure what she was looking for, but whatever Maya found there, she didn't seem pleased, as she muttered under her breath, "You'd think an art major could do better."

A little sheepish now, Phoenix looked down before saying quietly, "Larry thought I looked fine."

Maya seemed to be in complete disbelief. "Larry?! You're taking fashion advice from Larry of all people?! He's worn that same awful orange jacket every day for like, 3 years straight. In what world is taking advice from Larry a good idea?"

"What do you mean? We're friends! Of course I want his advice!"

She was still rifling through his closet, although it rather looked like she had given up on finding anything. "Nevermind," she grumbled. "From what I can see here you're not much better than he is."

"And? So what?"

Maya gaped at him for what seemed to be an eternity, although it was probably closer to 30 seconds. She blinked a few times before she finally said to him, "So we're going shopping! Duh!"

And before Phoenix could open his mouth to argue, she had already grabbed his hand and pulled him out of his room. As they made their way out the door of Phoenix's frat house, Maya invited everyone she could find along the way, resulting in almost every member of the house deciding to tag along.

Several hours later (and several bus rides as well since apparently nobody could drive a car), Phoenix Wright stood in his room admiring the new suit they had picked up.

A shade or two lighter than navy, his blue suit was really quite nice looking, he had decided. As he fastened his bright red tie, he found himself rather grateful that Maya had dragged him out to go shopping.

The old outfit had been fine, but that was it, it was just fine. Now wearing this, he felt that there could be no way his girlfriend Dahlia would regret this proposal dinner.

He exited his room, and poked his head into the common area, where his friends were gathered. Larry, and Maya, Iris (Dahlia's sister who he'd met before he knew Dahlia), and even that Ema girl who Maya was friends with. Since when was he friends with so many girls? Oh well.

"Hey guys I'm leaving now. I look fine, right?"

"Yeah, you look great, dude" came Larry's reply. He was offering a thumbs up.

Maya gave Phoenix a cheeky grin. "Aren't you glad we went shopping now?" she asked.

Running his hand through his hair, he chuckled a bit. "Yeah, thanks for that, Maya. I'll buy you dinner later okay?"

"You'd better! Now get out of here before you're late!" she said, pushing him towards the door.

"Okay, okay, I'm going."

And with that, Phoenix Wright left the frat house, barely able to contain his excitement. He waved one final goodbye as he made his way to the street where he called for a taxi.

This is going to be the best day of my life, he thought.
