Chapter Text
Night time fell in the small country of Sokovia as twins Wanda and Pietro Maximoff were in town stealing small bits of items and food.
It was their 18th birthday where they would finally get to hear their soulmate's for the first time. Others would think that soulmates are over-rated and wouldn't get any connections.
"Happy Birthday Sestra." The latter said to his sister giving her a small kiss on her forehead as he gave her a small piece of bread he stole earlier.
"Happy Birthday, you ready?" The younger sighed knowing in anytime her soulmate might give a signal.
"As I'll ever be." He smiled eating the share of bread as they sat watching the night stars glowing in the sea of darkness.
"Do you ever believe in soulmates?" The younger wondered, pursing her lips uncertain if she would get one.
"Mama and Papa were soulmates, so yes I do." The latter nodded mentioning their parents who died at the bombing from Tony Stark eight years ago.
They were lucky that they survived the bomb under a table while the debris fell on top of them, when another bomb landed in front of them, they hoped that it wouldn't explode.
Hours of waiting under the table, face covered in dirt and smoke, the bombs beeping miraculously stopped leaving them confused and scared.
Their confusion were turned to despise and anger as the only word burned in their minds, the name they saw on the bomb, and his name Stark.
"I miss them." The brunette thought, as she laid down on the grass looking up the bright stars.
"Who is this?" A voice in her head spoke up, surprising the brunette.
"Are you my soulmate?" She asked the voice inside her head, making her think she has lost her mind.
"I don't believe in soulmates, love is for children." The voice answered making the brunette sigh in disappointment.
"I'm Wanda." The brunette introduced.
"Natalia." The voice answered back.
"That's a beautiful name." The brunette smiled at herself, she never really mind who her soulmate is as long as they are a good person.
"Not where I am, I despise it." Natalia said denying the brunette's compliment.
"Where are you from if you don't mind me asking." Wanda asked zoning out on the night sky to focus on Natalia.
"I- I've got to go." Natalia quipped escaping the brunettes mind.
"Wait don't go! Did I say something wrong?" Wanda sighed in frustration, a few minutes of waiting still no answer making her sit up and grumbled.
"What's wrong sestra?" The latter asked, confused to why she got up so suddenly.
"I think I've met my soultmate." She whispered.
"Well how is he?" The older asked, helping himself sit back up.
"She doesn't believe in soulmates, and left me hanging." She said in frustration running her hands down her hair.
"She'll come around, now let's go." He stood up offering his hand, helping the younger.
"What about yours?" The younger asked, curious if her brother has a soulmate.
"Zero." He said in disappointment.
They walked back to the middle of the town, where an old run down church stood there, they lived here for the last six years making it a temporary home.
"A guy approached me earlier and offered me to join this organisation." The latter said sitting down on their makeshift bed.
"What did he say?"
"He offered me that if we wanted to take revenge on Stark, we will meet up with him tomorrow and join."
"This is an opportunity to avenge mama and papa's death, we should go." The younger exclaimed not knowing what coming.
They both silently agreed and laid on each of their bed, as the brunette sighed she wondered why Natalia left so quickly by asking her where she was, that made a growing suspicion on Wanda's stomach.
"Natalia, I hope you can hear this but I want you to know that I'm here for you." She laid there waiting for her response but none, as tiredness washed over her a voice entered.
"Thank you." Natalia said making the tiredness disappear turning it into content.
"Good night Natalia." The brunette said slowly drifting herself to sleep.
"Good night Wanda."
------------
Morning arrived when Wanda woke up as sharp pains keep sending towards her like she was getting punched, making Pietro's concern build up.
As the pain kept sending Wanda pried herself so both of them get to meet up with the guy mentioned the night before, he was cold, tall and stoick but he was glad that there were so many that were willing to join.
Hydra was the name of organisation they call themselves, they planned on taking down Stark or what they promised they will do.
They showed us around the facilities providing them with rooms, food, water and clothes. At first it was fine but once everyone finally got settled in, guards showed up out of nowhere and began stripping them off their clothes, and handed them uniforms.
Wanda felt at ease when the pain stopped for a brief two hours as
each of them were escorted to rooms, separating the twins scared out of their minds.
One by one all of them were strapped to their beds as tight as possible not risking one from escaping, as they were injected with unknown colored liquids on their neck feeling the burning sensation run across their bodies.
The halls were filled with echoes of screams and sobs, as each individual was tortured and experimented. When a panicked voice entered Wanda's mind she knew it was Natalia.
"Wanda, are you okay?" Natalia called out in panic.
"Talia." The brunette weakly replied.
"I felt you getting hurt." She said."
"I felt yours too but it's fine."
"Hold on a sec I got to go." She said exiting her mind.
As Wanda laid there listening to everyones screams, as sharp pain entered on lower abdomen, next on her leg, lastly on her back. She knew it wasn't her pain, but from Natalia.
Hours of pain has passed it finally stopped but what made the panic erupt in her, that made her scared on what is happening to her soulmate, she struggled on her restrains feeling the anxiety set in as she felt Natalia's energy weaken.
"Talia? What happened? Are you hurt?" She panicked.
"I'm fine, just uh training." Natalia answered making the brunette remain uncertain.
"I don't believe you, it hurts Natalia."
"Okay, fine I'll tell you, but you have to promise you can't tell anyone."
"I promise."
"Since we felt each other's pain, you would also have to tell me."
"Okay now tell me."
"I'm in the red room, and what you felt was a combat to the death." Natalia sighed.
Wanda laid there in silence processing what she just said and what would've happened if Natalia would've lost.
"If you lost you would've died and I will feel it." The brunette whispered.
"They can't get rid of me that easily, I'm their top student. Now tell me why I felt yours, and it felt like I was stabbed with ten needles."
"I'm with hydra, and I don't know what they injected me with."
"Bozhe moy, how lucky we are to be soulmates." Natalia chuckled sarcasticly.
"I'm here restrained in my bed, while the others we're being tortured and my brother is on the other side."
"I'm also restrained on my bed. So how about we keep each other in company as we get through this hell hole." Natalia quipped.
"I would like that."
"You said your brother was on the other side, how is he?"
"I can hear him struggling but I think he's okay."
"How about we get to know each other to pass the time?" Wanda suggested.
"You start."
"How did you ended up in the red room?"
"Starting off strong are we? I was raised here since I can remember."
"How come your not cold hearted as they say?"
"I managed to fake it for so long since that is what they trained us to do, and if they found out that I have a soulmate they would do whatever it takes to remove you."
"Then we'll just have to make this worth it."
"Now why are you in Hydra?"
"My brother and I joined to avenge our parents death, they died at the bombing eight years ago."
"I never get to meet my parents." Natalia bluntly says.
"I think your ribs are broken, I could still feel the pain."
"They don't really give you medical help even if you won, they just give you an aid kit and we just have to suck it up."
"How old are you?"
"Between 18 and 19, they don't really give you a birth certificate here. You?"
"just turned 18 with my brother."
Without knowing soldiers burst in her room with a doctor and his trays full of needles each filled with different colors, they injected each point in her body, her neck, both of her arms and shoulders.
The fluids injected into her burned her whole body, the room filled with agonizing screams tears filling her eyes, her body slowly going numb.
"Wanda? WANDA? Wanda please answer me." The hint of panic from Natalia snapped her out of the numbness.
"I can't move."
"Shit."
"Can you?"
"Yes, I can endure the pain for a while." Natalia said.
"Well we best prepare ourselves tomorrow since I don't see this ending any time soon." She added.
She was right it didn't, Wanda would wake up in pain but couldn't move from the restraints the only time they would let her out was when they were training and eating. After that it was back at the bed and being injected whilst enduring the pain from Natalia. Both of them experiencing each other's pain and comforting each other when it calmed.
This has been going on for months on end, Wanda would sometimes wake up with random bruises all over her body, she developed an immunity to the beatings everytime Natalia has to fight. While Natalia found herself getting used to the feeling of needles poking in her.
They say you can feel all the pain your soulmate experience and viceversa but what you don't know is you can turn that off. You can turn off the connection between the two of you for as long as you like but can return to normal if they wanted.
Natalia has to shove every feeling she has down up to the point her face was as blank as it is, no matter what the circumstance is she wouldn't let the Red Room take the only thing keeping her sane and that's her connection to Wanda.
Two years of being in the Hydra and they haven't found out that she has been talking to Natalia.
The thing that really bothered Wanda was how they found out, she didn't know how or when.
She knew no one here could read minds but they were certain she was talking to somebody.
She was in her room sitting on her bed and the next thing she knows was she was strapped on a stretcher taking her into some kind of room with the medical tools laid out beside her.
Masked doctors injected her with anesthesia, her mind was panicking in every situation on how this would turn out, she called out for the girl in her mind, her conciousness slowly fades away.
"Wanda! Wanda No! Stay with me Wan-" Her panicked voice goes quiet.
Hours before she woke up, the pain in her head kept ringing as she sobs trying to find their connection, she couldn't feel her, she couldn't hear her, she lost her.
"Talia, please." She sobbed.
-----------
At the Red Room, Natalia tried not to show her panic while in combat, but it didn't go unnoticed by Madame B telling her she was too unfocused resulting in her punishment.
As she stands on the other side of the glass watching young girls being taught ballet, she spoke out.
"You'll break them." Natalia said.
"Only the breakable ones, you're made of marble." Madame B paused.
"We'll celebrate after the graduation ceremony." She added.
"What if I fail?" Natalia asked.
"You never fail."
She goes again, pretending to surrender trying to stop the ceremony from taking away the only choice she has left.
"Sloppy."
"Pretending to fail, the ceremony is necessary for you to take your place in the world."
"I have no place in the world." Natalia said automatically, granted that the response was plastered permanently in her mind.
"Exactly.
She never felt fear like this. No she never feels fear not when Wanda was here to reassure her, she stood there in silence breathing heavily, as Madame B ordered the man to begin again.
They didn't give her food that night, she tried reaching out for Wanda but she never responded, she felt like a piece of her was missing and that has brought her the conclusion that their connection was no more.
They handcuffed each and every widow here to ensure no one escapes, if they did no matter how good they are, they'll still be tracked down and will not hesitate to shoot on sight.
She made a plan to escape and search for Wanda, but that would be impossible without her getting caught, so she waits. She waits for the day that one day she'll get out of this.
She knew love was for children, that love will not bring any good in missions, they made sure of that, everyone who has a glimpse of emotion or affection will be taken and killed.
That was the Red Rooms doing, they train you to be mindless assassins incapable of emotions and feeling.
They train you to kill and kill only, no matter how bruised and broken you are, they will not stop until you become the perfect killer in their eyes.
