Work Text:
Taehyung is walking slowly as he was observing the whole skating rink. It was not an ice rink where people typically visit, but an old skating rink that come alive from the 80’s era. This was an idea of Jimin’s cousin Hoseok. Hoseok wanted to celebrate his birthday with their friends and decided to make it retro themed. This skating rink is the perfect place for his party.
Taehyung hesitantly agreed to come to this party but Hoseok sweetly asked so he can’t refuse. He is not a fan of retro themed events so he immediately called his best friend Jimin, to choose an outfit for him. Jimin chose a simple white shirt and match it with red three-fourth sleeve polo. Jimin even promised to fix his hair too.
Taehyung looked around to search for Jimin and his boyfriend Jungkook but they are nowhere to be seen. But knowing Jimin, maybe he took some more time to fix his hair. His best friend is always glamorous.
Taehyung decided to try the roller blades and he took his time lacing up his shoes. He observed the other guests hollering from the rink. He kept an eye on a particular man who is alone and enjoying the skates. His hair was caramel brown and his bangs almost fell over his eyes. His broad shoulders are hugging his denim jacket tightly.
Taehyung was so engrossed with the view so when he starts to glide, he lost his balance and fell on the rink. His face was red and he was so embarrassed. He was about to stand when he saw a hand in front of him and a smiling face that makes his heart throbs faster. He grabbed his hand and straightened his clothes.
“Do you want me to teach you?” The man with the caramel hair asked him with a beaming smile.
Taehyung scratched his head as if he was so embarrassed. But still he took the opportunity.
“Oh, really? Thank you. By the way, I’m Taehyung and you are?” Taehyung offered his hand for a shake.
“I’m Kim Seokjin. My friend Hoseok and his boyfriend Yoongi organized this party.” Jin took his hand and Taehyung felt an invisible jolt on his hand.
“Hoseok hyung is my best friend’s cousin and Yoongi hyung is my brother’s bandmate. Maybe you met him already, Kim Namjoon.” Taehyung flashed his boxy smile.
“Oh, Joonie the drummer. I met them last summer and they were really good. By the way, don’t you have any experience?” Jin asked Taehyung which made the younger blushed.
“With what?” Taehyung stuttered then after a while, he understood what Jin meant by that statement.
“With skates. It’s just like walking, but you need to slide and glide. One foot in front of the other.” Jin illustrated his point. Taehyung watched Jin as he skated to the other side and made a little circle and he smiled at him. Jin went back to him and offered his hand.
“Do you want me to hold your hand?” Jin asked casually and smiled.
“No, I’m good. I think I can manage.” Taehyung averted his eyes from Jin’s gaze and started to skate away from him. Taehyung knows that Jin had been watching him intently and is ready to catch him if he will fall over.
Taehyung forgets his surroundings for a while and just enjoys skating back and forth to Jin. But just when he was getting close to him, someone bumped him and Taehyung was knocked over on the rink. Taehyung was not hurt but by instinct, he touched his bum and frowned. He realized that getting on the rink only gives him embarrassment.
In a moment, Jin was on his side and checks him out.
“Are you alright?” Jin seems worried to him
“Ah yeah. Don’t worry.” Taehyung could feel the heat on his cheeks and maybe it’s the same color as his clothing today.
“Do you want to continue or do you want to sit now?”
“I’m alright. Let’s continue.” Taehyung smiled but then he was shocked when Jin went to his side and his hand went to his waist and guides him to move.
“I’ll stay here by your side so you will not get hurt again.” Jin mumbled as they went their way to the center of the rink.
Taehyung felt safer in Jin’s arms but his mind became hazy with his crazy thoughts. He can’t focus on the skate itself. He is now concentrated with Jin’s hand on his waist; the warmth from his hand that travels elsewhere to his body. The close proximity between them that he can smell the musky scent of his cologne which makes Taehyung wanted to close his eyes and bury his nose on the crook of his neck.
They were skating side by side, slower than the skaters beside them. Jin was nervous that Taehyung might get hurt. They were just moving around for a few minutes when Jin murmured something.
“Taehyung-ah, do you believe in love at first sight?” Jin asked.
Taehyung was shocked with the sudden question but still he answered wholeheartedly.
“Ah, yes. I believe I do. Fairytales do exist.” Taehyung admitted.
Jin held him and stopped them from moving and now they are in the middle of the rink.
“Do you want to go on a date with me?” Jin asked Taehyung while staring in his eyes.
Taehyung was about to answer when a loud scream startled them both. They searched for the person and Taehyung realized that seeing his friend right at this moment is very wrong timing.
“Taehyung-ah!” His friend Jimin waved at him and skated towards him.
“Jin hyung!” Hoseok called Jin and a wide mischievous smile painted on his face.
“Taehyung-ah, Jungkook and I have been looking for you everywhere. I thought that we would skate together and you will teach…” Jimin stopped when Taehyung motioned him to shut his mouth.
“Jiminie, this is Kim Seokjin. Jin-ssi, this is my bestfriend Jimin.” Taehyung introduced him to each other.
Jimin and Jin shook their hands and Jin asked to leave to meet Hoseok.
“See you later, baby.” Jin winked at him and Taehyung became flustered.
Taehyung watched Jin as he skated away from them. Jimin pinched his forearm and he winced in pain.
“Yah, Kim Taehyung! What happened to my best friend?” Jimin giggled as he observed Taehyung.
“What was that for?” Taehyung pulled his sleeve up and saw the red mark where Jimin pinched him.
“You are already smitten with Mr. Gorgeous. I thought you weren’t looking for someone right now.”
“I changed my mind. You can’t blame me Jiminie.” Taehyung smiled.
“And I saw that he guides you and teaches you to skate? You’ve got a gold medal for figure skating in highschool!” Jimin attacks him to pinch him again but he was able to stop his assault.
“Why not? I had the opportunity so I grabbed my chance.” Taehyung laughed and held his hand to skate away from the crowd.
“You little slytherin! Your flirting skills are leveling up!” Jimin squealed and they continue to swirl around the rink.

“Finally, Jin hyung. You had the courage to speak with Taehyung.” Hoseok teased Jin.
“It’s been years since I last saw him on the skating rink. Who would have thought that I will see him on a party that you had organized?” Jin smiled and he was happy that he went to this party.
“And your little admiration for him never faded away?” Yoongi asked him while he gave him a can of soda.
“To be honest, it grew fonder. I think I’m in love.” Jin’s eyes are twinkling like stars.
“And you, a CEO of a big company, teach a figure skating champion in gliding and sliding.”
“I had an opportunity so I grabbed my chance. I never imagined that Taehyung will allow me to teach him.” Jin smiled and his ears became red.
“With the things that I saw, I think its mutual hyung. The pretty boy likes you too.” Hoseok couldn’t hide his amusement.
“Thank you for inviting me here on your little retro party. But I need to leave and ask Taehyung for a late dinner.” Jin winked and stood up from his seat.
“Can’t wait to show him your dynamite, hyung?” Hoseok screamed and took a high five from Yoongi.
“Pabo!” Jin shouted and waved at them.

They were inside Jin’s car and a deafening silence welcomed them. The cold air from the air conditioner didn’t help to lessen the sweating of his hands.
“I have something to tell you.” Jin said abruptly as Taehyung sits on the passenger side of the car.
“What is it? I have something to tell you too,” Taehyung answered and his heart beats rapidly. This is the first time he got nervous like this.
“Remember when I asked you if you believe in love at first sight? Because I do.” Jin confessed and put out his phone from his pocket and reluctantly showed it to Taehyung.
Taehyung gets the phone from Jin and his eyes widened when he saw his photo. It was taken from the last figure skating interschool competition that he joined and that’s when he won a gold medal. Taehyung was a bit confused and he looked back at Jin.
“When I first saw you, I thought you were an angel. But now you’re here in front of me, my hunch is right.” Jin chuckled and he can’t hide his admiration to Taehyung.
“I guess, I am busted, right?” Taehyung shakes his head. This is his third embarrassment just for this night.
“When I saw you on the rink, I knew you were a skating champion but when you stumble, of course I will never miss a great opportunity to get closer to you.”
“I never thought that you know me beforehand. Well, I think great minds think alike.” Taehyung giggled because of their silliness.
“So do you have a place in mind? Anything specific to eat?” Jin asked and started the car,
“Anything will do.” Taehyung smiled at Jin.
Jin reached for his hand and kissed the back of his palm. Taehyung melted into the chaste kiss and tighten his hold.
Jin started the car and left their friends in the party. They will search for a place where they could talk and know each other more.
Taehyung never thought that he would meet someone as gorgeous as Jin, while wearing a red retro outfit in an old skating rink.
Jin never thought that he would see Taehyung again after four years while wearing a pair of denim jackets and pants. He was holding his hand while wandering around in Seoul.
Tonight wasn’t a night to dig deep into what could possibly happen between them.
But they both know that this is a generous start of a happy ever after with each other.
