Chapter Text
“Here you go.” The bartender slammed the drinks down with a sneer at him before turning away with just a barely audible ‘idiot’ mumbled under his breath.
Jon scowled as he picked up the three drinks and didn’t know what the guy’s problem was. He made sure to tip generously, knowing that he looked like an absolute prick to everyone who glanced at him.
Making his way back to his table, he passed by a group of tipsy women, all out for some kind of event as they sported matching pink shirts that said BDJ Gang on the front. As they moved along, one of them reached out and slapped his ass. By the time he managed to turn around without spilling his drinks, they had all huddled up and he had no idea who the culprit was, but he heard riotous laughter among the group.
He grumbled under his breath and made quick strides until he got back to his seat.
“Cheer up.” Robb nudged his shoulder as he sat beside him on one of the lounge chairs and placed their drinks on the little table. “The next round will be on me.”
Jon grabbed his glass and glowered over the rim. “I look like a bloody wanker.”
He scanned those sitting closest to them and could feel the withering looks sent his way. Not that he could blame them one bit. As he said to his cousin, he felt every bit the asshole the shirt made him out to be. Next to him, Theon snickered into his drink. The two of them were his best mates, but he really felt like kicking their asses right about then. “I’m taking this off.”
“No way!” Theon objected. “You lost a bet, fair and square and you have to keep that shirt on for the next forty-eight hours.”
Letting out a sigh, he knew his friend was right. It was his own damn fault for having one too many the night before and now he had to pay the price. “Couldn’t you two have picked a more low key place to go tonight? This place is too classy. I’m the only one here in a t-shirt for fucks sake.”
The two of them looked at each other and laughed, enjoying the shit he was getting from everyone around them. The rooftop bar at the fancy hotel they were staying at wasn’t his first choice, but he suspected they picked it specifically because of the upscale setting, just to fuck with him some more.
“I, for one, am enjoying this tremendously.” Theon leaned back in his seat and eyed Jon’s shirt. “Your pretty ass isn’t getting near the attention you normally would. I’m tired of being referred to as the funny one when we all go out.”
“I don’t know. Big Dick is Back in Town,” Robb read aloud and waggled his brows. "Some women may be more interested specifically because of your shirt. You’re basically advertising the goods.”
“Piss off,” he grumbled.
He knew his friends meant well and were just trying to get him to loosen up. Ever since he and Val broke up a few months ago, he hadn’t been interested in getting back out there. He hadn’t even wanted to come to begin with, but Theon told him that it was his duty as the best man to give Robb one last boys trip, so he sucked it up and put the impromptu trip together.
“No, I mean it,” Robb said with a chuckle. “I promised Talisa that I’d be on my best behavior, but it doesn’t mean I can’t help you pick up a woman to have some fun with.”
“Not interested,” Jon said. “The kind of woman who would be impressed by a shirt like this probably isn’t one I’d have anything in common with.”
“Why should that even matter?” Theon asked. “This is a bachelor party, Snow. Can we at least act like it and have some fun? It’s our last night in Sunspear.”
He’d argue that they’d had plenty of it already, spending the last three days gambling and clubbing, going out to shoot guns and blow shit up for fun at the famous firing ranges in the Red Mountains of Dorne. They were even planning on going to watch the big MMA fight in a few hours.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw movement. He found his gaze drifting a few tables down where a woman was sitting with her two friends, her back turned toward him. He couldn’t see her face, but there was something about her that drew him. Maybe it was the way she held herself or in the way her silver blonde hair kept catching the moonlight every time she shifted.
More than once, he’d found himself subtly craning his neck, trying to catch a glimpse of her face. If it was anything like her body, he was truly fucked. She was all luscious curves in her tight dress and he’d been captivated from the beginning.
Not that it mattered any, of course. There was no way in hells he’d ever approach someone like that when he was looking the fool that he was. He shifted his eyes away, but not before Robb caught him staring.
“What about the hot blonde over there?” he asked. “I’ve noticed you can’t stop staring at her.”
Again, Jon quickly glanced her way before scoffing at his cousin. There was a devious gleam in Robb’s eyes that he didn’t trust. Whatever idea he was scheming, it wouldn’t do to let either of them know he’d been checking her out. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t try to bullshit us,” Theon said. “Like we haven’t been watching you drool all over her since we got here. I saw her when I went to the loo and let me tell you, the front is even better than the back,” he added helpfully.
Damn, he just knew it!
He raised his glass and took a drink, enjoying the burn of the liquor as it slid down his throat. “Doesn’t matter. I can’t talk to any woman while I’m wearing this.”
“That’s where you’re wrong,” Robb argued as he pointed a finger at him. “It’s all about the attitude, the swagger. If you have that, it doesn’t matter what you’re wearing.”
Jon rolled his eyes, not wanting to encourage him to give his tips yet again on how to pick up women. He may not have Robb’s easy charm or Theon’s brashness, but he’d always done just fine with the ladies.
“You have to go up to her and be confident,” Theon advised. “Act as if you own the place and she’ll believe whatever you tell her. One of my new favorite things to do is give her a nickname before I lay a smooth ass line on her.”
He stared at Theon incredulously. “Are you trying to tell me this actually works?”
Theon took a sip and nodded. “All the time. Then after you give her one, give yourself one as well.”
“Now I know you’re shitting me," Jon said with a groan.
“Your problem is that you’ve never had to work at it before,” Theon said. “They flock to you because of your looks, but now that you’ve got the woman repeller shirt, you’re going to have to put in more effort.”
“He’s right,” Robb agreed. “Most of the girls you’ve gotten came on to you first so this will be different.”
Thinking over their words, Jon had to admit maybe they did have a point. Both his previous girlfriends made the first moves and most of the ones in between as well. But still, he already felt like an idiot, did he have to sound like one too?
He looked over again at where she sat and she suddenly shifted, turning the side of her face toward him and he sucked in a quick breath.
She was listening to something her friend said and from her profile, he could see full wide lips peeled back in laughter, her eyes crinkled up as her hand moved up to flip a lock of her hair behind her shoulder. She was even more radiant than he thought, her easy demeanor pulling him in before he shook it off and turned away. He ground his teeth in frustration, remembering that his odds that night of getting to know her were at a zero.
“Forget it. I’m already not doing myself any favors by wearing this shirt, there’s no way your cheesy ass lines will help me any.”
They looked at each other and grinned before Robb turned to him with his shit eating smile. “How about a new agreement, then? You go over there and pick up blondie using our advice. If you’re successful, then we’ll allow you to take that shirt off.”
Normally, Jon wouldn’t agree to it, but he really did like the idea of not having to wear the humiliating shirt through the airport and all the way home the next day. He considered for a moment, then downed the rest of his drink in one gulp.
“It’s a deal.”
💯💯
Dany took a sip of her drink and sighed. How dumb was she to bet against Margaery? She’d wager that the girl had luck on her side since the day she was born.
Throughout their ten years of friendship she’d never once seen Margaery Tyrell lose. Wasn’t this the reason they decided to travel to Sunspear in the first place? All their gambling wins on slot machines alone would pay for their trip and then some.
Unfortunately for her, there was a first time for everything and her luck was bound to run out during their trip. Even though she knew the odds were against her, she foolishly went and made the stupid bet.
And she lost. Now, she was at Margaery’s mercy.
“Oh cheer up, Dany!” Missandei, her other best friend, laughed. “You know Marg will set you up with a hot guy.”
“That’s what I’m afraid of,” she said with a grimace. “Our definition of hot guy is vastly different.”
Margaery rolled her eyes. “That’s because you have poor taste and I don’t.”
Missandei snickered and Dany groaned at them.
Margaery wasn’t wrong per se; she did have bad taste in men, at least when it came to their personalities and both her exes were prime examples of that. Drogo was cute, but a total douchebag, while Daario was exotic and then he’d also turned out to be another jerk.
Of course her friends didn’t think they were cute, and neither exotic, a fact they both liked to remind her, but the thing they all agreed on was that both were idiots.
“When’s the last time you saw a dick again?” Margaery asked.
She gasped and looked around to see if anyone had heard the question. Blushing profusely she leaned in and whispered hotly, “I’m not answering that!”
Beside her, Missandei nudged her knowingly and grinned. “She had a one night stand eight months ago and that was it.”
Margaery raised her eyebrows and smiled mischievously. “Oh honey, you’re going to get properly laid tonight. Missy and I are going to make sure of it.”
Dany had seen that determined look in her friend before and knew there was no use arguing so she took another sip of her drink as she worried. She would need as much liquid courage as she could get for whatever Margaery had in store for her.
The Tower of The Sun was one the fanciest hotels in all of Sunspear, a courtesy paid for by all their winnings from the gambling they’d been doing the past four days. With Margaery as their lucky charm, they moved from their tacky, but affordable hotel room to an elegant and luxurious suite on their second night.
Granted, they were still sharing the space, but at least now each one of them had a queen size bed of their own, which was certainly an improvement from the bunk beds they had their first night. The rooftop bar was also an improvement from the places they had shared drinks before. This one had cocktails and expensive liquor, 'all the overpriced good stuff', Missandei pointed out as soon as the elevator doors opened.
She had seen cute guys lurking around as well. Sadly, most of them had a golden ring on their left hands or their arms around a pretty girl. Both a blessing and a curse because she knew that if she didn’t hook up with someone tonight, there was no way Marg and Missy would let her off the hook.
It was their last night in Sunspear, after all.
Dany excused herself to get another round of drinks for them, choosing whatever pricey stuff she saw on the menu. She didn’t take very long, but apparently it was enough time for her friends to choose the victim because when she returned they both had big grins on their faces.
Missy could hardly contain her excitement and was practically bouncing with giddiness. “We made our choice, Dany.”
She took a deep breath and put their cocktails on the table. Taking her seat, she took a tentative sip of her drink before asking, “Alright, who’s the guy?”
If it was possible Marg’s smile grew even wider, making her freak out a bit because nothing good would come from this. Of that, she was certain.
“That guy over there.” She pointed her perfectly manicured index finger to a table behind Dany’s back.
She straightened in her seat and stole a glance over her shoulder. She was trying to be subtle as she followed where her friend was pointing and saw three men, a few seats over from them.
“The hot one with dark hair,” Marg clarified.
Oh.
That was the only cohesive thought she could form. The man was extremely nice to look at; he had long, dark curly hair, a strong, squared jawline with a neatly trimmed beard and full, pillowy lips.
His eyes were dark, casting him with a mysterious aura, even with the colorful lights around them, though he was frowning at the red-haired guy sitting by his side. His arms were crossed against his chest, showcasing his bulging muscles and thick forearms.
Judging by his body language, she got the distinct impression that this fancy bar was the last place Mr. Hot Guy wanted to be.
Dany turned back to her friends with a dubious look. “I don’t think he wants to be here though. I’m sure he’s not going to want to talk with me.”
“Pfft, the way you’re dressed every guy and girl in this room will want to talk to you,” Missy said and Marg laughed.
She blushed and self consciously tugged the hem of her dress lower while trying to cover the cleavage that popped out over the top of her dress as much as she could.
“None of that.” Marg quickly swatted her hands away. “Now go on,” she urged with a giggle. “Go get your hot guy and don’t come back until you’re properly fucked.”
She widened her eyes as Marg gave her a saucy wink while Missy snorted into her drink.
Dany turned to look at the guy again and as she studied him closer, her jaw almost dropped to the floor when she read his t-shirt. Big Dick Is Back In Town was written in all caps on his chest, black letters against light grey fabric, making it impossible for one to miss. Mr. Hot Guy looked utterly uncomfortable, though she didn’t know if it was because of his shirt or if he disliked bars and loud music altogether. She noticed a few people looking at him and snickering.
“No. Way!” Dany turned to them and shook her head adamantly. “I’ll do every other thing you want, but please, not the one with the douchebag shirt!”
Missy looked shocked, but apparently Marg was having the time of her life because she had tears in her eyes from laughing so hard. “No, no, he is perfect,” she declared. “He’s handsome as fuck, but apparently he's also a douchebag. That’s straight up your alley, Dany!”
She narrowed her eyes, even though she knew her friend was just joking. She couldn’t very well defend herself given the track record of her past failed relationships.
“Seriously, I don’t even know why I put up with you,” Dany said. “With either of you,” she added, since Missy had joined in, both of them laughing so loudly that Mr. Hot Guy and his friends looked over at their table.
She flushed and shot him an apologetic look, even though he was the one who should be doing so. After all, she wasn’t the one with the asshole shirt.
“Just go,” Missy encouraged with a giggle. “He’s already looking at you.”
“Probably because I’m the only one who isn’t laughing at him,” she pointed out, and then whispered, “but rest assured that I’m judging him hard.”
“Oh, yeah, there’s another thing that will soon be very hard once you talk to him,” Marg snorted.
Dany gasped while Missy broke in another fit of giggles.
“Oh come on, love, don’t act so shocked.” Marg dismissed her reaction with a wave of her hand. “He’s the one that’s advertising what he's packing.”
“And you’re the one who is forcing me to engage with him.”
“Details.” Marg smirked with a roll of her eyes. “Now, will you just go already?”
Dany closed her eyes and took another deep breath. Shit...she couldn’t believe she was actually going to do this. At least the guy was cute, she reasoned, even if he was a douche. She opened her eyes and stared them down. “What happens in Sunspear, stays in Sunspear, do you two hear me? Not a word of this will be spoken of again.”
They both grinned and nodded, pretending to comply when she knew for a fact there would be years of teasing to look forward to.
“Have fun,” Missy said with a little wave of her fingers. “Be sure to let us know just how big we’re talking about.”
Taking the last gulp of her cocktail, she got to her feet and held her glass in hand, just to have an excuse to go to the bar.
She snuck a glance over at Mr. Hot Guy, locking eyes with him and he was indeed looking at her already. They held contact for a beat before she shifted hers coyly away. With another breath to steady her nerves, she started to walk to the bar, keeping her steps slow and moving her hips in a way to enhance the swing of them.
Dany hoped she wasn’t looking wobbly. Between all their drinking and her jittery state, it was a miracle she was still holding herself steady in her six inch heels. She took a seat at the bar and ordered a bottle of water, figuring it was a good idea to slow down her drinking before she made a fool of herself.
“Hello princess.”
The voice came from behind and she swiveled the seat to find Mr. Hot Guy grinning at her.
Fuck!
He was even more attractive from this close up and his lips looked much more kissable. She noticed that his eyes were actually grey, instead of the black she had previously thought and they were framed by thick lashes. But all of it was just a fleeting thought in her mind once her eyes drifted down as she read his shirt again and registered what he’d just said to her.
Dany cringed as his words replayed in her mind. There was no way in hells she could sleep with a guy like him, no matter how hot he looked. No way at all.
Knowing she couldn’t very well return to her friends so quickly as they’d accuse her of not keeping her end of the deal, she decided to play along. At least she could tell them she tried and if nothing else, they could all laugh at his cheesy pick up lines.
She put on her most charming smile and said, “Hello handsome.”
He looked startled for a second at her warm welcome before resting an elbow on the bar top.
“My buddies bet me that I wouldn't be able to start a conversation with the most stunning woman here. How should we spend their money?” he asked, still grinning.
Dany froze. Of course, it was fitting that his voice would be as beautiful as he was. Mr. Hot Guy spoke to her in a deep, northern burr. Accents were her weakness and his particular one caused her toes to involuntarily curl in her shoes.
“You could buy me a drink to start.” Fuck being sober, she decided. There was no way she could carry on a conversation with him if she wasn’t feeling a nice buzz.
“Great idea.” Taking a seat on the bar stool by her side, he grabbed the drink menu and handed it to her. “And what would the princess like to drink?”
“A martini is fine.”
“An excellent choice.”
He ordered their drinks, choosing a scotch for himself.
Mr. Hot Guy turned his body toward her and his eyes skimmed her from head to toe. “So tell me, what’s a princess like you doing here alone? Haven’t found your Prince Charming yet?”
She had to admit, the line was awful, but his smooth voice was more than making up for it.
“I’m not sure yet.” Now it was her turn to skim him from top to bottom. “Do you think I finally found him?” she asked with a smirk, willing herself not to roll her eyes.
He snorted and said, “I’m hardly Prince Charming.”
“You don't think so?” She raised her brow and took a sip of her drink.
“No...I’m more like the Big Bad Wolf.” He flashed her a grin and damn, it really was wolfish, making her blood spike in response.
It was such a shame she couldn’t take him seriously because he certainly elicited unbidden reactions out of her, despite her best intentions to remain detached.
Needing a moment to steady her nerves, she calmly took a sip of her drink, thinking of what she could possibly say to him. She looked at his shirt and smiled. “Cocky much?”
Mr. Hot Guy looked down as well and snickered, “You have no idea.”
Unable to hold back anymore, Dany turned her face away and rolled her eyes. She glanced at him again when he placed his hand on top of hers.
He leaned in closer. “You know, I may not be a photographer, but I can totally picture us together.”
She bit her lip to keep from bursting into laughter. Try as she might, she couldn’t play along anymore. Not only was Mr. Hot Guy extremely cocky, but he had just laid the ultimate cheesiest line on her and it was time to pull the plug on this charade.
Dany pulled her hand from under his and after she downed what was left of her drink, carefully put her glass on the table.
“Do tell me, Big Bad Wolf, does this approach usually work for you?”
“You tell me.” He flashed another wolfish grin her way before raising his glass to his mouth. “Is it working?”
She scoffed in answer and rolled her eyes so he’d know exactly what she thought of his lame moves. When he finished his drink, a drop lingered on his bottom lip and his tongue darted out to lick it away, causing her toes to curl again. It was such a shame that he was so handsome and yet, had absolutely no game.
“No...not really, sorry.”
He looked at her for a moment and then suddenly let out a huge sigh of relief as a loud laugh rumbled forth. “Thank the gods,” he murmured before looking over at her with a grin. “I’d find it really weird if you were attracted to all that I said.” He looked down at his shirt and frowned, adding, “And to what I’m wearing, for that matter.”
“All that…” She raised her eyebrow in surprise. His reaction was not what she was expecting at all and she gave him a quizzical look. “What were you trying to do?”
Mr. Hot Guy blushed and averted his gaze. “I lost a bet,” he said in a low tone, almost whispering, his northern burr more pronounced than ever, and she shivered again.
“You lost a bet,” she repeated slowly as she gained clarity. The whole situation was so ironic that she couldn’t help letting out a giggle.
“I’m here with a friend and my cousin for his bachelor party. We’re just killing some time before we head out to watch the big fight tonight, but long story short, I had too much to drink last night and made a stupid bet. As you can see, I lost. Badly.”
“And they forced you to wear that awful t-shirt,” Dany concluded.
“Aye.” He pulled at the neckline and nodded. “This...and to talk with a beautiful girl like you while wearing the shirt.”
She could feel herself blushing at the sincerity of his words and tried to hide her pleased smile by clearing her throat.
“They know I don’t really do the casual thing and were trying to help me score.” At her look, he quickly flushed and stammered. “Not—I wasn't trying to do that or imply that’s what you’re doing. I meant no offense.”
Well, she couldn’t really get offended as that was exactly what she had been sent to do.
“None taken.” She grinned at him and he gave her a smile, a beautiful and real one this time, making her heart all aflutter. “And...well, you can rest assured no one would want to sleep with you with that game.”
They both chuckled at her assessment and she was glad that he didn’t take himself too seriously. She appreciated a man who could laugh at himself.
“Aye, that was the goal. I wanted to prove a point to my friends that their pickup lines were truly horrendous.”
She couldn’t agree more and giggled again when she recalled their earlier conversation.
“So, now that you know my secret,” he said, "what’s yours?”
“Secret?”
His gaze lingered on her face and she could feel her heart palpitating at his dark stare. “What I’m asking myself is why you’re here, talking to me, instead of being out there having fun with your girlfriends?”
“My secret”—Dany put her elbow in on the counter and whispered close to the side of his face—“is that I lost a bet too.”
It may have been the lighting, but she thought she saw a shiver pass through him before he quickly recovered and laughed, asking, “You’re kidding me, right?”
She bit her bottom lip as she adamantly shook her head. “No, I wish I was. I lost a bet against my friend and she challenged me to hook up with a guy that the two of them chose.”
He looked down at his shirt and gave her a look of pity. “You sure your friends like you? Why would they pick out such an asshole for you?”
Dany giggled at his jest. “Well, that's what they say to me at least. But no, there was no harm done because I wasn’t going to sleep with you, Mr. Cocky.”
They shared another laugh before he cleared his throat. “I’m sorry for my bad manners. I’ve just realized I don’t even know your name.”
“I’m Daenerys Targaryen, but you can call me Dany for short. And you are?”
“Jon Snow.”
“So, Jon Snow, now that our secrets are outed, do you think we should go back to our tables?”
Despite their awkwardness, their meeting had been fun and she wouldn’t mind spending more time with him. But he said he was heading out soon to a fight with his friends. Plus, he didn’t do the casual thing so really, there was no point to keep talking with him. It was her last night in town and she should spend it with her best friends, not some random guy whom she would never see again.
“I think so, yeah,” he said and rubbed his neck. “I mean, unless…” he trailed off and gave her a mischievous look.
“Unless…?”
“Unless we played them.” Jon grinned and leaned his body in until his face was inches from hers. “I have an idea, if you’re interested to hear it.”
“What idea?” she squeaked out, surprised that she was even able to form any words with the way his breath whispered across her lips. She was hypnotized by his grey eyes and the way he was still grinning at her.
He put his hand on top of hers again and intertwined their fingers together. His were calloused and warm, but fit perfectly against her skin. It was getting harder to remind herself that they should only be friends.
“Let's pretend to give them what they want so we can get out of our lost bets.”
Their heads bowed conspiratorially like they were old friends and she had to admit she liked where he was going with this idea. It would be nice to just hang out with her friends, without them trying to find another guy for her.
“We can go to the bar across the street for a while, then come back and tell our friends that we slept together,” he said as if it was the most logical plan in the world.
Dany wasn’t opposed one bit to sleeping with him, but it didn’t seem like it was in the cards for them. She had been enjoying his company thus far so if this was her only chance to spend more time with him and pay up for her lost bet, she would take it.
“Deal.” She giggled and squeezed his hand.
She peered at her friends on the other side of the room. Both of them were looking at her and grinning widely, probably because she and Jon were really close, their noses only a few inches from each other and their hands entwined on the counter.
She looked at him again and guessed that he was doing the same thing, as his eyes were focused on his friends. But soon enough he fixed them on her and a shiver ran through her body from the intensity of his gaze.
“Shall we go?” he asked and she could only nod in response, afraid she would say something inappropriate if she spoke out loud.
Jon kept their hands laced together and pulled her with him. They took the lift down and were soon walking in the streets.
The ‘bar across the street’ was actually two blocks away, but he kept pace with her, making sure to hold her hand tightly and even took her arm and tucked it close to his body to help keep her steady in her heels.
The Moondancer had a big neon dragon blinking in the front of the building, with a young Baela Targaryen riding on it. It was crowded and a bit more casual than where they had come from, but she didn’t mind.
As they entered, Jon put his hand on her back and all thoughts evaporated from her mind. They could have walked into a sex dungeon and she wouldn’t have blinked twice, her only awareness was the heat of his hand on the small of her back, burning her through the thin material of her dress.
The woman at the door greeted them and Dany guessed she was the owner from her name tag. She checked their ID’s, then looked Jon up and down shamelessly and winked. "So how big is big? Are we talking massive here?"
Dany felt her cheeks heating up at the question and bit her lower lip to keep from laughing, but one quick look out of the corner of her eyes showed that Jon was even more embarrassed. If it were possible he seemed to be blushing more than her and had his eyes on the floor, with a hand rubbing his neck self consciously.
To save him from absolute misery, and because she had been asking herself the same question since she saw him, she boldly stepped forward and responded with a cheeky wink of her own.
“Oh, it’s huge!” Dany raised her hands about a foot apart. “It’s the biggest dick I’ve ever seen in my life.”
The woman’s eyes grew wide and she looked at Jon as if she wanted to break him like a glowstick.
Dany wasn’t the jealous type, but if she didn’t get to see the goods, she’d be damned if another woman would either. “May we enter now or must you flirt with all your customers first?”
“And what about it?” The woman asked before turning with a laugh and waving them inside. “Have fun! But no funny business in my establishment,” she said before greeting the next patron at the door.
They found themselves sitting in a tiny booth and both settled for water bottles instead of alcoholic drinks. She wanted to slow down for a bit and Jon agreed, saying that he wanted to be able to enjoy his time at the show later.
“You didn’t have to do that,” he said, pointing his thumb to the front door.
“Why?” she asked with a grin. “Would you prefer I said you have a small dick?”
His cheek grew red again, but he smiled at her. “You’re having way too much fun talking about my cock, aren’t you?”
Dany choked on her water and blushed again. Something about the way he said that word made her want to squirm in her seat. It conjured up images in her head that were way too indecent to entertain while they were fully clothed. “Hey, you’re the one advertising!”
“You mean I was forced to wear this stupid shirt.” He corrected with a playful roll his eyes as he took a sip of water.
She couldn’t help but notice the fabric clinging to his defined arm muscles and wondered what it would feel like to have them wrapped around her, which made her blush worsen and she averted her eyes, hoping that would help. The last thing she wanted was to get caught checking him out. He wasn’t interested in a casual fling and she truly didn’t want to turn things weird by perving on him.
“Mere details,” she said with a laugh, hoping to get her focus back on their conversation.
The bar was filled with blue, red, and violet swirling lights. Every time the colorful bulbs focused on him for a bit her breath caught on her throat, because Jon was so beautiful and seemed unaware of it. The way he smiled and laughed and kept his eyes on her every time she was talking made her tremble.
As the hour ticked by and they continued to share tidbits about themselves, she was more sure that he was a great guy. He worked as an architect in his family’s company, and though he was an only child, had five cousins that he considered siblings. In turn, she spoke a bit of her work as a lawyer and her friends turned family, Missy and Marg.
“And this is Ghost.” He showed her a picture of a white dog on his phone. “He is a white shepherd and my best friend.”
“He looks so cute and fluffy!”
“Don’t let him fool you. This guy can be a bit of a beast when he meets new people. He gets so excited that he often pees himself.”
Dany laughed. She would love to meet his dog, but unfortunately for her that would not be the case. He mentioned Winterfell several times and she lived in King’s Landing.
After his dog pictures, she showed him ones of her cat. “Drogon is an absolute ass to everyone he knows, new or otherwise.”
They scrolled through until Jon happened to look at his watch and grimaced. “We’d better be going. The fight should be starting within the hour.”
“Oh yeah, sure,” Dany said, trying not to sound so disappointed. “The girls will be worried about me if I take too long as well.”
Jon paid for their water and they returned to the hotel, but she couldn’t shake from her head the notion that they were both walking more slowly than when they came to the bar. She hugged herself, feeling the night air getting cooler despite the heat that lingered during the day.
“Are you cold?”
“Just a bit, but it’s fine. We’re almost back to the hotel.”
He shook his head and wrapped his arms around her shoulders, effectively protecting her from the chill, and surprising her.
“Better now?”
“Um...yeah...yes,” she stammered, but now she was sure that her voice sounded strangled.
His cologne smelled so good, like a rich, woodsy scent and she could picture the crisp snow and pine trees, with a blend of warm spice to wake up her senses. She wanted to spend the entire night drowning in it.
When they reached the hotel he kept his arms around her and didn’t let go until they reached the rooftop again.
It didn’t take her long to find her friends staring, looking surprised to see her again, no doubt. His friends were also looking at them, but they had huge smirking grins on their faces.
“Thanks for the lovely evening, Dany. It’s been fun.” Jon stopped them before they reached their groups and had to go their separate ways.
She stared into his eyes and gave a small smile. “I also had fun...and I hope you have a good time at the fight.”
Jon rubbed his neck, a move he’d made more than once that night, like he was bashful or embarrassed, and nodded. She had just turned to go back to her table when he pulled her right elbow. She looked up at him with surprise, and found him with a determined look on his face.
“I just need to do something before we part,” he whispered.
“Sure, what is it?”
He closed the distance between them and cradling her head in his hands, he kissed her. It was so unexpected that she waited a few seconds before returning it.
He moved his lips against hers and she thought that they were as soft as they looked. His firm grip caused her to tremble against him and she put one hand on his shoulder, the other she locked in his curls, drawing him in closer.
All too soon, though, he let go of her. Jon blinked a few times and they stared silently at each other, both a little breathless from their kiss.
Finally, he licked his lips slowly, a move that made her foolish heart wish it was to capture her taste before he explained, “So our friends will believe we had sex.”
With that, he let go of her face and took her hand in his.
She nodded, feeling dizzy from his rapid movements, from the alcohol she drank before and from his touch.
“Have a good night, Dany,” he said and let go of her hand.
“You too, Jon,” she whispered before turning around slowly and walking to her friends.
Her mind, though, was reeling from the time she spent with him, his scent that lingered and his kiss still ghosting her lips.
