I can't help you, but at least I can cuddle

Summary:

Tommy has a migraine during a 12-hour squad stream, but don't worry, big man Wilbur is there to help

Notes:

This basically isn't even romantic except for like a very mild hint of adoration and a crush or some shit. its just fluff (or is it fluff if tommy's in pain?? idk)
I'm just tagging it as the ship cause I obviously don't want non-problematic people finding my account lmao

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was around 9pm and Tommy, Tubbo, Niki, Wilbur, Jack and George were having a 12-hour charity stream in an Airbnb that they'd rented together. It was a squad stream but only with Tubbo's, Jack's and George's accounts, as Tommy was feeling too calm and tired to be a main object of entertainment and neither Niki nor Wilbur were in the mood for it. The adults were all a little drunk, but no one them had drank so much that you could actually recognize a notable difference, they were just more chaotic and laughed easily even at the shittiest jokes.

Tommy was sitting on the edge of the couch, barely in the frame, while the three that were streaming plus Niki were sitting next to him clearly in view. Wilbur was god knows where, but he occasionally walked past the couch or was seen in the background. They were playing the telephone game and Tommy had been playing with them until he felt like he couldn't concentrate on the game anymore. This had made the chat spam for a while about how Tommy should go to sleep or that they were worried about him, which they'd been doing pretty much the whole stream. Luckily it had calmed down a bit as people seemed to realize that he was a human being as well and it was completely normal to be tired, as they'd been streaming for over 7 hours and it was 9 pm already.

While the four were laughing their asses off at their game, where "I wanna play golf" had somehow turned into "I have a pee-pee", Tommy excused himself to go to the bathroom. When he got out, he decided against going back to the couch and instead went to take a glass of water first.

In the kitchen, he was met with a gaze of a familiar pair of dark-brown eyes and a tall man leaning against the top cabinets. Wilbur was standing in the kitchen with a bottle of beer in his hand, his eyes blankly staring at the floor before they fixated on Tommy upon his arrival.

"Hey", Tommy said, receiving a similar mumble from the brunette. He walked past the man and took a glass out of the cabinet, filling it with water with Wilbur's eyes laid on him.

He turned around to lean at the countertops as well, taking a sip of water while Wilbur took one of his beer before talking. "'M feeling a little weird."

"Yeah?"

"Like", Tommy said, knowing it wouldn't bother the older even if he'd start rambling. "I dunno. I keep seeing like, weird fuckin' flashes and lights around me 'n shit. And my head hurts like I'm gonna have a headache."

"..Have you drank enough water?"

"I mean, 'm drinking right now, maybe it'll help", Tommy shrugged. "It hurts a bit when I drink so I bet it's just dehydration or some shit."

Wilbur huffed and took a sip of the beer before sending a thoughtful glance to Tommy. The gaze had some kind of undertone of concern and care, and if Tommy would have been in the mood to care, he would have probably found it sweet.

"Tell me if it gets worse", Wilbur said, making Tommy huff and lightly roll his eyes. "Could be something more, if it doesn't feel like a normal headache."

"I bet it's nothing", Tommy yawned. "But sure."

"You sure you don't wanna sleep?" Wilbur said, referencing to a previous conversation they had about and hour ago where Wilbur had suggested Tommy to go to sleep after he'd told him he was tired.

"It's 9, big man, I'm not going to sleep yet."

Wilbur shrugged. "Whatever you say."

Tommy drank the whole glass and filled it again before going back to sit on the couch. Wilbur joined them as well at some point, sitting down on the armchair that was next to the couch on the opposite side of where Tommy was sitting. The water had made him feel a bit better, so he was actually able to take part in the conversation this time and laugh with the others.

At least for a while. After about 20 minutes, Tommy realized that the aching in his head had gotten worse. He took the empty glass and stood up to fill it again, but froze on his feet as a wave of pain rushed through his skull after taking the first few steps. His vision went black for a few seconds which was normal due to his weird blood pressure when he stood up, but he hadn't realized that the headache had been so bad already that it'd cause pain like this when he stood up fast.

"You alright?" Jack asked him after realizing he was still standing still.

"Yeah, sorry, I just have a bit of a headache", Tommy said and rubbed his eye with his palm. Jack gave him a sympathetic response but Tommy wasn't really listening, instead concentration on ignoring the pain at his head and walking to the sink to fill up the glass.

Tommy filled the glass with water and took a sip, but instead of walking back, he closed his eyes and leaned into the sink, letting out a quiet sigh as an attempt to gather his thoughts. He then realized that someone had walked next to him, a tall figure that towered over him and tilted his head in concern.

"Hey, you alright?" Wilbur asked. The worried tone warmed Tommy's heart, but he let just out a disbelieving chuckle, trying to cope with the pain with so-called humor.

"Not really", Tommy said, sucking in a deep breath. "I.. 's getting worse", he whispered.

Wilbur stood close to him, clearly not sure on what to say. He laid his hand lightly on Tommy's shoulder and gently rubbed his forearm. Tommy glanced up and saw that Wilbur looked highly worried. Tommy sighed, feeling like he wanted to cry, and leaned to the left against Wilbur. The man wrapped his free arm silently around Tommy's waist, rubbing circles into his side as comfort. Tommy's hands were still grabbing the side of the sink, but he was leaning entirely against Wilbur's chest and breathing in and out with his eyes closed.

They stayed like that for a while. Though Tommy obviously didn't say anything, he really appreciated it, because despite the fact that they almost never were particularly affectionate in a physical way, Wilbur was clearly ready to comfort him any time he needed it.

But despite Wilbur's help, the pain just worsened the longer they stood in the kitchen. It was throbbing on the left side of his head and every time he tried to move or open his eyes it would rush through even more painfully. It wasn't as bad as he could have imagined yet, but Tommy wasn't too hopeful that it'd go away any time soon.

"Maybe you should lie down", Wilbur suggested with a quiet voice, knowing that loud noises would likely make the pain worse. "Lights off, try and get some sleep.. Would probably help."

Tommy gave a slow nod, careful to not move his head too rapidly. Wilbur stayed quiet for a moment, probably waiting for him to start moving but when he didn't, he opened his mouth again with a question.

"D'you think you can get there?"

Tommy didn't give him an answer but braced himself up and started to walk towards the hallway with the bedrooms. Wilbur followed him silently.

"Fuck, I gotta piss", he realized halfway through. He'd drank so much water.

"Go piss."

"Well- fuckin'- thanks a lot, Wilbur, wouldn't have thought of that myself", Tommy mumbled annoyedly. He managed to get himself the to the bathroom, but after he'd pissed, he found himself collapsing to sit on the toiled due to the tiredness and the urge to sit down. He let out a deep sigh as he closed his eyes to escape the blinding lights of the room.

He only realized how long he'd been sitting on the toilet when a voice echoed through the door. "Tom? You good?" asked Wilbur, who Tommy knew was standing just outside the entrance.

"Sorry.." Tommy answered and without opening his eyes managed to get himself to stand up. He parted his eyelids so he could barely see through them, flushed the toilet and quickly washed his hands before getting out.

He met Wilbur behind the door, who looked just as worried as before, but didn't say anything. It was quite ironic, actually, as Wilbur was really good at handling pain and every time Tommy accidentally hurt him or something the boy would just mock him jokingly and Wilbur wouldn't care, at least when they were on camera. Yet here they were, Tommy wasn't even in that much pain and Wilbur looked incredibly concerned for him, or at the very least, sympathetic.

"Could be a migraine", Wilbur mentioned as they walked to one of the bedrooms. The flat was pretty big and there would have been enough bedrooms for nearly every one of them, but they hadn't spent a night there yet. "Is the pain on one side? Or your whole head?"

"Left", Tommy said painfully, not bothering to try and get more words out than what was necessary. Wilbur seemed to, luckily, understand, and nodded.

"D'you know if anyone in your family has migraines?"

"Think my mum has 'em sometimes.." Tommy mumbled.

Tommy laid down on the queen-sized bed. It still had the blanket on top of the covers, but Tommy didn't care, and just laid on top of it. He realized that Wilbur wasn't in the room with him anymore, but the man quickly came back with a glass of water with him. He placed it on the bedside table next to Tommy, and the boy forced himself to sit up and take a sip of it. The lights were off in the room and the only light was seen through the crack of the door.

"I'm gonna go ask if Niki has any painkillers for you", Wilbur said as he walked to the door again. "She has migraines as well." All the lights disappeared from the room when Wilbur closed the door, leaving only the thin, yellow line that was shining under the door to show.

Wilbur walked back to the living room, where the others were sitting and laughing at something.

"Hey Niki, d'you have any painkillers? Tommy's having a migraine. Or at least a very bad headache", he asked, not caring about the fact that the stream was on and the chat could obviously hear him. They'd been streaming for 8 hours, everyone had probably shown some other side of themselves during the stream already. Wouldn't hurt to show chat that Tommy was a human being.

"Oh shit", Niki said sympathetically, the others saying something similar as well. "That sucks. Yeah, I do, hold on-" she stood up to go get her bag, leaving Wilbur sitting next to the couch and waiting.

"Is he okay?" Tubbo asked with a concerned frown.

"Yeah, well, just in a lot of pain", Wilbur explained. "I told him to get some sleep and he's in bed now." Tubbo nodded understandingly.

Niki came back with painkiller tablets and handed them to Will. The brunette thanked her quietly and walked back to the room Tommy was in.

"Hey", Wilbur whispered as carefully closed the door, leaving a small crack open so that he could see in the otherwise pitch-black room. "Got you painkillers."

Tommy sat up slowly, took the pill that Will offered him and tossed it down with a big sip of water. He mumbled a quiet 'thank you' before laying back down. Wilbur sat on the bed for a moment, carefully examining through the boy's exhausted expression before he stood up, intending to leave the room.

He stopped when he felt a weak grip at his sleeve. "Stay."

Tommy's words confused the brunette slightly, but he quickly sat back down and gently caressed Tommy's head. "Of course."

He sat next to the boy for a while. Eventually Wilbur stood up to go close the door entirely and then decided to lie down next to Tommy, to which the boy responded by eagerly wrapping his arms around the older man's waist. Wilbur smiled in the darkness, knowing that Tommy wouldn't see his expression either way. He hugged the younger gently back, feeling the teen squirm closer against his chest. Wilbur buried his nose in Tommy's blonde locks and breathed in his sweet scent. He didn't even think about how weird it probably would have looked from an outsider's perspective. All he could think about was the blond teen snuggled tightly to his chest, and the warmth against his body that made his heart flutter and cheeks flush red from fluster.

It sucked that Tommy was having a migraine, but he could definitely do this again sometime.

Notes:

I remember Niki saying at some point that she has migraines, am I dead wrong or does somebody else remember that?? Idk
