Oops I Didn't Mean it like That

Summary:

Just something random I came up with for social media and it ended up being a good idea? I mean I like it enough to keep making this content. It's modern AU where a mistaken post leads into romance and getting together??? :)

It’s currently 8pm at night and Jin Guangyao is sitting in the living room of his small but homey apartment scrolling through his phone. He is giggling at his nephew's cute puppy pictures when he gets a notification that Lan Xichen has mentioned him in a post. He quickly clicks on it and his phone lights up, bringing him into his Twitter app. There he sees the post in question and stares at it confused as he snuggles himself in a tighter ball in his recliner.

The post reads:

Lan Xichen
@humblebrotherlan

@therealjinguangyao what’s your type?

Chapter 1: The Post

Chapter Text

It’s currently 8pm at night and Jin Guangyao is sitting in the living room of his small but homey apartment scrolling through his phone. He is giggling at his nephew's cute puppy pictures when he gets a notification that Lan Xichen has mentioned him in a post. He quickly clicks on it and his phone lights up, bringing him into his Twitter app. There he sees the post in question and stares at it confused as he snuggles himself in a tighter ball in his recliner.

The post reads:

Lan Xichen
@humblebrotherlan

@therealjinguangyao what’s your type?

Meng Yao presses his phone to his chest and thinks about how he should respond. Is he just interpreting the message wrong? If not, why is it a public post? All of these questions were blasted away by the need to respond to show his friend he cares.

Follow up response:

???um well taller than me, and he’d probably have to be kind?

Too honest of an answer? Maybe, but he’ll deal with the consequences later. He goes back to looking at other things on his phone, distracting himself from waves of anxiety he feels about Lan Xichen seeing that response.

It doesn’t completely work and every notification that’s not Xichen makes his stomach flip with uncomfortable anticipation.

Finally there is a response on Twitter and he pressed on it nervously.

Lan Xichen
@humblebrotherlan

Oops. I meant to attach an image of some Guqin I thought you’d like

A-Yao feels like he’s gotten the wind knocked out of him and doesn’t know how to respond. How does one come back from being so vulnerable? The anxiety makes him dizzy and he’s not sure if he needs to lie down or throw up. He does manage to respond.

He doesn’t sleep well that night.
