Lies On Page One

Summary:

"So?" The God of the World asks, extending the book. "Will you write the story of this world, or will you continue to be a mere side-character?"

Wilbur opens his eyes and gives Dream a little half-smile-- probably the realest smile he's given since he arrived here. He reaches out and carefully takes the book from the god's grasp. "Every symphony needs a conductor. Every epic needs a playwright," he murmurs.

"Every story needs an author. I think we'll be good friends, Wilbur Soot. Author of the DreamSMP." Dream chuckles.

"Author of the DreamSMP," Wilbur muses, pulling the book close to himself and cracking it open to flip through the blank, empty pages. So many pages, so many possibilities. "It has a nice ring to it."

Chapter 1: Act 0: Scene 1

Chapter Text

My dearest Pogchamp Family,
I JOINED A NEW SERVER!
I got access to the DreamSMP and of course I joined— Tubbo's here with me too!! Big Man Dream himself said any of you three were welcome to come along! So get over here and hang out!!!!! I'm getting bored already and you know what happens when I get bored!!!
The Biggest Man Of The Family,
TommyInnit (and Tubbo too I guess)

Wilbur looks over the letter in his hands with an amused grin. "Phil!"

"Yeah mate?" Phil walks over, noticing the letter in Wilbur's hand. "A letter? Tommy finally settle down?"

Wilbur laughs slightly. "As though Tommy would ever settle down . He has found himself a bit of a world, it sounds like!" He exclaims, offering the letter over to Phil with a bit of a flourish.

Phil looks the letter over before sighing. "Chaotic little shit. He found himself an Owned world."

Wilbur hums, sitting at the table with a short huff. "Oh, that's one of those things you talk about sometimes."

"You mean warnings?" Phil chuckles. "Yeah. Owned worlds, the ones that a God created and has total dominion over. Tommy's stuck there unless the God allows him to leave. And so long as he's there, the God can do whatever He wants to him."

Wilbur waves his hand playfully. "Yeah, yeah. Those things you talk about." He hums and takes the letter back, looking it over again. "I mean, he's Tommy. He'll be fine." He grins slightly. "Might even cause a bit of warranted chaos. I bet those fools have never met someone like Tommy Innit before..."

"Oi, be nice Wil." Phil chides gently.

Wilbur raises his hands in a playful mock surrender. "What? I'm just saying, watch him get thrown out of there within the week. Especially since Tubbo's with him—you know how they're foils."

"Yeah, yeah. They're chaotic little shits, but that's not how it works." Phil shakes his head. "If he's in there, and he's causing problems, the God can just... make him stop."

He hums. "Do you really think this, ah—" he squints at the paper, " —Dream would?"

Phil shrugs. "If he would easily let Tommy go he wouldn't have a whitelisted server."

Wilbur hums, thinking, and folds the letter back into itself with a sly smile. "Sounds festive. Maybe good old big brother Wilbur will check on dear little Toms."

Phil gives Wilbur a suspicious side-eye. "You only want to go to check on your little brother?"

Wilbur shrugs slightly. "Well, you sound so concerned about him..."

"You're taking this too lightly Wil. My son's in a server he can't leave without permission, and honestly, I don't think he knows." Phil sighs.

"Well, maybe," Wilbur agrees. "All the more reason for me to go keep an eye on him, don't you think?"

"Yeah. He clearly misses us, but... Well, he's human." Phil admits. "If worse comes to worst you can at least have your instincts to try and get out."

"See? Exactly," Wilbur agrees, clasping his hands together. "It'll be good for us! Family bonding time! And I can keep him from being too much of a little gremlin child."

Phil smiles, that's god. That's all he wanted for his boys—a family. "Alright."

Wilbur giggles happily and nods, standing. "I'll go pack some clothes then. Techno's still out for a couple weeks, right? I'll leave a letter in his room, then."

"Alright mate. Want any help?" Phil offers.

Wilbur shakes his head. "I can't bring too much, right? Or the world will yeet it."

"Yeah. Only clothes and stuff. You can't bring any tools or weapons. I doubt you can even bring food to an Owned world like that." Phil confirms.

Wilbur nods, jogging up to his room. A few shirts, a few jumpers, pants and beanies... just all the essentials. Even one long brown coat for the colder months, and a couple fancier sets. Just in case. It never hurts to look nice.

He quickly pens a letter, sealing and setting it on Techno's desk before going back downstairs and grabbing a black leather jacket from the closet. He shrugs it on quickly, glancing in the mirror beside the wardrobe and looks himself over, fussing with his hair for a moment before nodding with a smug grin. He'll do wonderfully.

Phil nods and smiles, looking over Wilbur's outfit. "You'll protect him?"

Wilbur sets a reassuring hand on Phil's shoulder and gives a smile. "Of course. He's my little brother, isn't he? I'll take care of him."

"That's good. And you'll be able to keep control of yourself?" Phil double-checks.

Wilbur's smile flickers slightly and he glances off to the side, almost hesitantly. "I've been doing better, haven't I?"

"You have. You've been doing a lot better, but just know you can reach out if you need me, alright? I'll talk you down. Your communicator should still work since we set it up to work across worlds. I'm just a call away." Phil soothes, putting a gentle hand on Wilbur's arm.

Wilbur reaches up to put a hand over Phil's, squeezing it slightly. "Yeah. I will. And... Tommy knows how to send letters if anything gets too crazy. We'll be... fine."

"I trust you, son. Go keep your brother safe." Phil smiles.

Wilbur smiles gently, glancing back at Phil. He really is excited for the chance to go really see the world. He nods. "I will."

Phil pats Wilbur on the shoulder, and hands him the letter Tommy scribbled the IP on.

Wilbur takes it and pulls out his communicator, punching it in carefully. He hands the paper back to Phil. "Just in case," he explains, finger hovering over the join server button. He hesitates for a second before leaning in and giving Phil a firm hug.

Phil coos, holding Wilbur in his wings and arms for as long as his son wants. "Make me proud."

Wilbur nods into Phil's shoulder. "I will. Thank you for everything."

"You're my son." Phil reminds. "Always."

"Off to see the world!" Wilbur teases, pulling away slowly. He looks down at Phil with a gentle smile and gives a playful salute. "See you later, dad."

"And you, son." Phil bids, before Wilbur presses the button and vanishes to the DreamSMP.
