Work Text:
Shuichi pulled on the door handle. It wouldn’t budge.
He tried again, this time with all his strength, but it still refused to open. Someone had definitely locked the room from outside, unaware that there were people still in there fetching equipment for the sports festival.
“Looks like they forgot all about us, Saihara-chan,” Kokichi chirped from where he sat on the mats, twirling his hair with an unconcerned expression on his face.
“You could at least act more worried, Ouma-kun. We’re locked in here,” Shuichi sighed, giving up on the door and walking back in Kokichi’s direction to join him on the mat.
“No way, a supreme leader never panics!” He smiled playfully, putting his hands behind his head. Kokichi was wearing a gym uniform instead of his usual outfit, and the shorts exposed most of his pale legs, which laid outstretched on the dark blue mat beneath him.
Shuichi realized that he was staring and looked away quickly, face feeling hot despite the relative coolness of their surroundings. If Kokichi noticed, he didn’t say anything, seeming focused on throwing around a tennis ball he’d procured from one of the crates.
The equipment room was spacious and slightly dark, and the only light source was the small window high up behind them. Difficult to reach and much less escape out of, Shuichi thought grimly, mind once again going back to the undeniable fact that they were trapped in here. People would come looking eventually, and he’d finished his events already, but...
“Don’t you have one event left?” he asked Kokichi, who dropped the ball and looked over at him with a curious tilt of his head, as if he had no idea what Shuichi was talking about.
“I’m done already. My last event was the borrowing race. Is Saihara-chan getting memory loss?”
Kokichi waved a hand in front of him, a look of concern on his face. It was cute even if it was an act, Shuichi thought, and before he knew what he was doing, he’d grabbed ahold of Kokichi’s hand.
The concern disappeared from Kokichi’s expression, and he was now staring at Shuichi, who stared back with equally wide eyes, heartbeat racing and mind going blank from panic before he remembered to let go of the hand he was holding.
“...I helped record the event assignments, Ouma-kun. I know you have tug of war left.” He cleared his throat and went back to the topic they were discussing in an attempt to hide his embarrassment because what did he even do just now?
“Y’know, if you were scared of the dark and wanted to hold hands, you should’ve just asked! But you got me, Saihara-chan. Maybe you’re getting better at this after all.” Kokichi laughed and stuck his tongue out briefly, seeming completely unaffected by what had just transpired between them.
The action made Shuichi’s heart skip a beat, but he forced himself to repeat “this is nothing” in his head. It was just Kokichi. Ouma Kokichi, the Ultimate Supreme Leader. His classmate and friend...whom he happened to have feelings for.
This crush is going to be the death of me, Shuichi thought.
“If you’re worried about me missing, I’m sure they’ll do fine without me,” Kokichi added, raising his arms for emphasis. Shuichi was suddenly reminded of last year’s cultural festival, when Kokichi had struggled with carrying the props for their class seance.
He does have a point. “But still, it won’t be good to miss…”
“If you want me to compete so much, why don’t you break us out of here with your detective skills?” Kokichi said with a challenging smile, and Shuichi narrowed his eyes.
He knows full well I can’t do much in this situation.
“I just don’t want you to miss out. The sports festival will only happen so many times before we graduate, so I think it’s an important part of our high school memories—”
Shuichi didn’t get very far before Kokichi interrupted him with an exaggerated groan.
“Oh come on, why is Saihara-chan being all gloomy again? It’s totally unnecessary in a situation like this,” he chided as he shook his index finger.
“...I guess you’re right. We could try shouting for help?” Shuichi suggested. It was one of their better options compared to sitting still or trying to get out through the window, which could lead to some serious injuries if they weren’t careful.
“Are you serious? I doubt they’d hear us,” Kokichi replied as he spun a different ball on his finger. When he’d gotten his hands on it, Shuichi didn’t know.
“I’ll still give it a try. It’s better than anything we have now,” he decided as he stood up and walked over to the door once more, pounding on it as hard as he could and shouting at the top of his voice.
“Someone, help! We’re trapped in here! Can you hear me? Anyone?”
There was no response, and he immediately tried again. Even though Kokichi refused earlier, he eventually joined Shuichi in yelling and hitting the door. He appreciated it, despite some of the bizarre things Kokichi shouted (“Shumai is trying to eat me!”, for example.) The two of them continued until they ran out of breath, with no signs that anyone had heard them.
“I...told you it would be...useless, Saihara-chan,” Kokichi said through pants.
Shuichi only managed a nod, his throat still hurting from all the yelling. The equipment room was a little far from the event grounds, so maybe that was why no one heard them. They had to give up on this plan for now though, since both of them were too tired to keep trying.
Kokichi walked back to the mats before flopping down on them, and Shuichi decided to do the same, lying down next to him. They rested there for a brief moment of silence, the sound of their breathing filling the room.
“Well, that failed,” Shuichi said when he felt more or less better, a small smile on his face. Maybe if he were in this situation alone, he would feel more nervous and afraid, but being with Kokichi made everything feel less severe. He was always confident and in control of the situation, and that helped Shuichi remain optimistic despite his worry.
“Totally did,” Kokichi said cheerfully before suddenly turning sideways in his direction. Shuichi turned towards him as well, feeling a little trepidation at both their proximity and the familiar way Kokichi’s eyes lit up with mischief.
“Say Saihara-chan, all we’ve done up till now was really boring. Don’t you think there are better things to do in situations like this?” Kokichi smiled slyly.
Shuichi reacted slower than usual, as his mind was extremely distracted by Kokichi’s lips and the feeling of his breath on his face.
“Situations like this?” he asked, slightly confused about what he meant.
“Didn’t you hear Shirogane-chan when she was squealing the other day about all the things that could happen at the sports festival?” The smile on Kokichi's face widened as he spoke, and Shuichi felt himself grow increasingly nervous about something he clearly wasn’t aware of.
He shook his head slowly. Knowing himself, he was probably reading or doing schoolwork when the conversation happened. Tsumugi was talking rather excitedly during lunch break at some point before the festival, but other than that, nothing came to mind.
“Of course you didn’t, Saihara-chan. Have you ever read any shoujo manga before?” Kokichi sighed loudly before asking another question, seeming intent on guiding Shuichi towards the answer.
“Um...once or twice, yes.” In middle school was what he left out. It had been years since he read any manga, and he didn’t actually remember what happened in them.
“Well then, don’t you know what happens in those manga when two people get locked up in the equipment room?”
“What happens…?”
Kokichi rolled his eyes, and Shuichi was starting to feel stupid himself. What could happen in such a situation? They played a game? Talked about themselves? Surely he didn’t mean—
Any thought he had quickly disappeared when Kokichi moved, and all of a sudden, he was on top of Shuichi, leaning in close until their noses touched.
“This happens, duh,” Kokichi whispered before pressing their lips together.
Shuichi froze. He could see Kokichi’s eyes flutter shut, could feel his hands cupping his face and the foreign heartbeat against his chest. All of it was telling him that this was real. This was real.
It was then that Shuichi finally reacted and kissed Kokichi back, pulling him closer to a point where it felt like they’d melt into one. The other boy made a satisfied sound before opening his mouth, and Shuichi didn’t hesitate to deepen the kiss. Both of them were inexperienced, and their teeth bumped at one point, but it felt perfect to him.
He couldn’t help but feel disappointed when they had to pull apart for air. Kokichi’s face was flushed, and his lips were still slightly open. It was a sight Shuichi never thought he’d be seeing, and in a gym equipment room, of all places. The time he spent doubting and longing for what was happening now felt like an eternity compared to how fast the situation had developed.
“I saw you ogling my legs earlier, you know. You’re not as inconspicuous as you think, Mr. Detective,” a playful, out-of-breath voice whispered in his ear, drawing out the last two words and sending a shiver down his spine.
Oh. Oh. Shuichi could practically feel his face flush at Kokichi’s words, and he scrambled for a response.
“Tha-That’s not what—”
“Don’t even deny it. You’ve always wanted to see me in shorts, haven’t you? Saihara-chan is such a pervert,” Kokichi laughed before giving him a suggestive smile.
“What, no, I’m not—”
“I was thinking the whooole time we were locked in here about whether you’d take the hint or not. But it turns out you really are horribly dense, despite your secretly perverted heart—mmph!”
Shuichi shut him up with a kiss. It was the most effective way he could think of.
He pushed Kokichi down on the mat, reversing their positions from earlier, with Kokichi now under him and Shuichi on top, his hand on the mat for support.
He only realized that Kokichi probably provoked him on purpose when he saw the boy’s smug smile.
“Yes, just like that, Saihara-chan. You don’t know how much I love it when you make that face,” Kokichi murmured before leaning up to kiss him again. The room became filled with noise once more, except with ones of a different nature than their shouts for help earlier.
Shuichi didn’t know when Kokichi’s legs wrapped around him, or when it grew into something more heated, with hands reaching under clothing to touch skin. He felt infinitely warmer, despite their relatively cool surroundings. Their surroundings.
It suddenly dawned on him where they were, and the embarrassment and hesitation returned all at once. He pulled back slightly, and Kokichi made a displeased noise. His hair looked messy, and his shirt was crumpled. Shuichi could only imagine how disheveled he looked himself.
“Should we really be doing this here? I mean, it’s the equipment room…” He trailed off upon seeing Kokichi’s less than impressed look.
“You’re only realizing that now? Gee, you’re such a killjoy, Saihara-chan,” Kokichi said as he raised an eyebrow. For a moment, Shuichi feared that he’d ruined everything, and started fumbling for something to say when he was suddenly pulled down into Kokichi’s arms.
“O-Ouma-kun?” Startled, Shuichi carefully returned the hug.
“What, are you going to say no to this too?” came Kokichi’s muffled voice from where he’d buried his head into his chest.
“No, of course not!” Shuichi replied a little too loudly, and felt embarrassed for a moment before he felt Kokichi laugh.
“What are you acting so defensive for?” Kokichi lifted his head, and Shuichi felt instantly more relaxed upon seeing his usual expression. He’d thought he hated him now or wanted to drop their relationship altogether. And of course Kokichi read his mind easily.
“Did you think I was mad at you? Maybe I was a litttttle bit annoyed, but I’m not lying when I say you can do anything you want to me, Saihara-chan. Even if that means you want to stop,” Kokichi said in a tone that was softer than usual. Shuichi was incredibly happy to hear those words, but at the same time, he felt like Kokichi sounded disappointed in the end.
Shuichi decided to trust his instinct instead of letting it rest.
“No, that’s wrong! I mean, I didn’t want to stop,” he blurted out before lightening his tone, having accidentally gone into “detective mode”—or what his friends called when he got assertive—in his hurry to reply.
“What? You really need to make up your mind, Saihara-chan,” Kokichi commented with an unreadable expression, which made Shuichi increasingly convinced that what he said did affect him somehow. He just had to explain, without getting nervous and botching things again.
“No, wait. I...I was having a good time, but I don’t know if I’m ready to..um...you know…I didn’t mean that I disliked it or anything...” His words grew increasingly stilted towards the end, but Shuichi continued despite the embarrassment, aware of the gaze on him.
Kokichi blinked when he finished, expression blank before he suddenly burst into laughter.
“Hey, don’t laugh,” Shuichi muttered feebly, torn between feeling glad that he’d succeeded and mortified that he’d clearly misunderstood things.
“No, no, it’s just—what are you thinking, Saihara-chan? I knew I was right after all when I said you were perverted. What did you think I was going to do? Fuck you right in this room?” Kokichi managed to gasp out between his laughter.
“Ouma-kun…!” Shuichi felt the urge to hide his face, scandalized by Kokichi’s...direct word choice, for lack of a better term, and extremely embarrassed at himself for thinking something dangerously close to that earlier.
But...seeing Kokichi with a genuine smile again and not in that strange, indescribable mood earlier made Shuichi feel so much happier. He would withstand any humiliation for that.
“Well, I don’t think I’d want to get my clothes dirty in school,” Kokichi smirked, and Shuichi flushed at the implications, “but that doesn’t mean we can’t do something other than kissing,” he whispered with a smile that somehow managed to be both sultry and mischievous at once.
Shuichi swallowed, nodding as calmly as he could manage, while in reality, his heart felt like it was beating out of his chest.
It practically left entirely when Kokichi leaned in close and pulled down his t-shirt, giving Shuichi a small smile before biting into the skin of his collarbone. He jolted at the sensation and froze when he felt lips sucking at the same place.
Unsure of what to do but wanting to do something, Shuichi rested his hand on the small of Kokichi’s back, where his shirt had ridden up slightly to expose the skin underneath. He felt a jolt at his touch, and on a whim, decided to go further, moving his hand further up and lightly stroking Kokichi’s back.
“Copping a feel, huh? You’re so sly, Saihara-chan.” Kokichi pulled back to gaze at him with wide but pleased eyes. He tapped a finger on where he’d just bitten and sucked on, and Shuichi noticed that it was going to leave a mark. At least it was in a place that his shirt would cover completely.
“So, did you like it?” Kokichi asked, a proud little grin on his face, and Shuichi couldn’t help but nod, wondering if his face was beet red at the moment. Hopefully the dim lighting of the room would hide his flustered state, or he was definitely in for a lot of teasing later.
“Let me do it too,” Shuichi said before pulling down Kokichi’s shirt and pressing his lips to smooth skin. He did his best to imitate what was done to him earlier, nibbling and sucking at the area intently. Kokichi made a surprised noise, but quickly relaxed and went silent.
Shuichi pulled back when he thought it was enough, and was a little startled to see how large a mark he’d left. For a second, he wondered if he’d hurt Kokichi, but a sudden flick to his forehead interrupted his worry.
“Ow…” he exclaimed, instinctively touching a hand to his forehead.
“Stop thinking about it, I’m fine,” Kokichi said, and he didn’t give Shuichi time to answer before pressing their lips together again.
The kiss this time was softer and slower than any of their previous ones. Kokichi’s thumb stroked Shuichi’s neck, and he rested his hands on the other boy’s slim waist. Shuichi only realized how much Kokichi’s shirt had ridden up when his palms came into contact with bare skin, and a thought suddenly planted itself in his head, refusing to leave no matter how much he hesitated. He eventually made a decision and looked Kokichi in the eyes when they separated in an attempt to ask for permission.
“Can I…” Shuichi felt too flustered to continue, but Kokichi understood again. He always did.
“Hurry up, Saihara-chan. Someone might find us at any moment,” he giggled, definitely reminding him of their location on purpose.
“Alright, alright,” Shuichi replied before tentatively slipping a hand under the purple-haired boy’s shirt. Kokichi shivered at the touch, but placed a hand on his, guiding it upward. They fell into a kiss again, except it felt much more intimate this time, with less fabric separating them.
Kokichi’s hands didn’t stay put either—they were reaching into Shuichi’s shirt and unabashedly trying to feel every inch of him. He felt grateful at that moment for all the training he’d done with Kaito and Maki. At least he wasn’t as physically lacking as he was when he first started high school.
The stray thoughts going through Shuichi’s head quickly disappeared when Kokichi suddenly moved his knee to nudge between his legs, making him almost jump at the sudden contact.
He held back the groan that threatened to escape and shot Kokichi a frustrated look, grip on his waist tightening a little.
“I thought you said you didn’t want to get your clothes dirty,” Shuichi said accusingly.
“Oh, but did I say anything about your clothes?” Kokichi smiled at him in a cocky and provoking manner. Shuichi never felt so irritated and turned on at the same time in his life. He should’ve known that Kokichi would pull something like this.
“You’re playing with fire, you know,” Shuichi blurted out before he immediately wanted to cover his face. What was he saying?
This whole ordeal was seriously doing a number on his brain.
“Oh my god, Saihara-chan, what kind of line is that?” Kokichi burst into giggles, slapping the mat as he curled into himself. Flustered and unwilling for them to get further off track than they already were, Shuichi reached out, trying to pin Kokichi’s legs down, but the other boy moved right at that moment, and his hand landed...a little sideways instead.
This time it was Kokichi who froze, his eyes widening like a deer in headlights. Shuichi wasn’t doing any better himself, considering that he was touching Kokichi’s—
“...Are you just going to keep it there or actually do something?” Kokichi muttered in the awkward silence, his eyes lidded and accusatory, as if urging him to take responsibility for his actions.
Was he really going to do this?
Shuichi swallowed, debating between the options in his head before he made an impulsive decision and pulled Kokichi’s shorts down. He blushed upon seeing how hard the other boy was through his underwear, though he wasn’t much different himself.
Kokichi wasted no time in kicking off his shorts and shimmying out of his underwear, both of which were quickly tossed to the side, leaving the lower half of his body bare for Shuichi to see. He couldn’t help but stare, and was only brought back to his senses when he felt Kokichi kick his leg.
“I know I’m stunning, but you should really get on with it, Saihara-chan. Do you want to do this or not?” He peered at Shuichi impatiently, face slightly flushed. It occurred to him that Kokichi was probably embarrassed.
Cute, he thought, knowing he was hopelessly smitten with anything Kokichi said or did.
“Of course I do...Do you want it too?” he asked, just to be sure.
“Well, I stripped for you, didn’t I?” Kokichi answered before pulling himself onto Shuichi’s lap and crashing their lips together.
Their bodies slotted together perfectly, and Shuichi moved his hand downwards to give Kokichi a tentative stroke. He gasped at the touch, burying his head into the crook of Shuichi’s neck as his fingers dug into his back. At the positive response, Shuichi quickly repeated the motion, falling into a steady rhythm as he relished every moan and gasp he elicited from the boy in his arms.
He’d never seen Kokichi like this before, eyes shut and face flushed from pleasure, a complete mess compared to his usual confident and guarded self. His arms wrapped around Shuichi’s neck to pull him closer, and they kissed again, fully enraptured in each other.
He sped up his movements, and Kokichi made a loud, keening sound when Shuichi thumbed his tip. It went straight to his lower regions, once again reminding him of how aroused he was.
A part of his mind still had reservations, but Shuichi ignored it and pulled down his shorts and underwear with his other hand, about to touch himself when a hand stopped him.
“Wait...let me do it. I need to make sure Saihara-chan feels good too,” Kokichi laughed breathlessly before wrapping his hand around Shuichi’s length and slowly beginning to move up and down. The sensation made him moan, and he pressed kisses down Kokichi’s neck in return, nibbling on his skin and drawing another sweet sound from his lips.
“You sure catch on fast, huh?” Kokichi said between gasps, a pleased smile on his face.
“I learned from the best,” Shuichi replied before kissing him, satisfied by the slight lapse in Kokichi’s expression that told him he’d caught him off guard with the sudden compliment.
No further words were exchanged as their lips moved over each other’s, and in that moment, nothing mattered to Shuichi except the boy in his arms. Their heartbeats were loud in the silent room, and it felt as if they were the only people in the world. It was almost like a dream, except Kokichi was very much real, and so was the feeling of his fingers curling into Shuichi’s back as his body tensed and he let out a muffled cry, coming undone in Shuichi’s hands.
He felt close too, and was about to finish himself off when Kokichi’s hands touched his. Shuichi turned to look in his direction, and Kokichi gave him a small smile that sent his heart racing.
“Together,” Kokichi whispered in his ear, and Shuichi let him guide their hands downwards to stroke his length. They moved at a fast but steady pace, and Shuichi could feel himself gradually building up until he released, an overwhelming amount of pleasure coursing through his body for a few euphoric seconds before he felt like he was back in reality again.
For a while, they remained silent, Kokichi’s head nestled in Shuichi’s shoulder. The sounds of their heavy breathing felt amplified in the room, and faint noises could be heard from outside, where the sports events were still happening.
Kokichi moved away first, falling backwards onto the mat. He slung an arm over his forehead, looking dazed and tired. Shuichi also felt a little lethargic himself, not wanting to move as he still dwelled on the absolute bliss he’d experienced earlier.
“That was…wow.” He searched for something to say before settling on simply expressing how he felt. Shuichi still couldn’t believe that they’d just done that in an equipment room where they could’ve been found out at any time. But any experience with Kokichi was never a normal one.
“Mm-hmm. You got me all dirty, Saihara-chan,” Kokichi complained, pointing to the mess on his stomach and legs, and Shuichi flushed, noticing that some had even gotten onto the mat. They’d be absolutely doomed if they were caught like this.
“Sorry...I have a towel that we could probably use,” Shuichi said as he looked towards one of the boxes near the door, where he’d left the towel earlier.
“Oh, you came prepared?” Kokichi teased, a suggestive smile on his face.
“...No,” Shuichi quickly denied. Kokichi only giggled in response, and he decided that it was best to start cleaning instead of continuing the conversation.
With that, Shuichi stood up and walked over to fetch the towel, moving a little awkwardly since his shorts and underwear were still halfway down his legs. He quickly wiped himself off before pulling them back on and walking back to where Kokichi was lying down. It was a little embarrassing to clean him off while he watched, but Shuichi made sure to do it carefully and thoroughly before moving onto the mat. The towel was probably ruined after this, but at least they had something to clean with.
By the time he finished with everything, Kokichi had already gotten dressed. They both looked more presentable now, except with slightly disheveled hair and wrinkled clothes.
“You’re really serious,” Kokichi suddenly commented, a hand on his cheek as he gazed at Shuichi.
“What?” Shuichi immediately looked up. He seemed to have developed a habit of instantly zeroing in on Kokichi whenever he talked after having the boy on his mind for so long.
“Saihara-chan is always so dedicated to everything. It’s one of the things I hate the most about you,” he said placidly, expression blank and unreadable.
“That’s a lie, isn’t it?” Shuichi responded almost immediately. Maybe when they first met, he would’ve been affected by those words, or at least thought about it longer than necessary. But somehow, he’d gradually grown out of the need to do so.
“Nishishi, maybe.” Kokichi laughed, his eyes like crescents as he smiled.
Tentatively, Shuichi reached out and took Kokichi’s hand, lacing their fingers together. The touch felt soft and gentle, like a dream come true. He was especially aware of his heart pounding in his chest as he waited for a reaction. Kokichi wasn’t looking at him. For a moment, Shuichi was afraid that he’d pull his hand away, but he didn’t.
“So...are we…?” He spoke hesitantly, looking pointedly at their intertwined hands.
“I dunno Saihara-chan, we’re totally not dating. Don’t get the wrong idea, okay?” Kokichi replied, but Shuichi felt a small squeeze on his hand.
“Of course,” Shuichi said, unable to keep a smile from growing on his face and warmth from spreading through his heart.
Getting locked in might’ve felt like a disaster at first, but the small luck he had with him made everything better after all.
