Chapter 1: "Who's the girl?"

Chapter Text

~♡~

Bucky's P.O.V.

The blast sent everyone sprawling as flames engulfed the lab. I gasped as the fire burned through much of the oxygen in the room.

"Has anyone seen Zemo?" Sam's voice rang out. I glanced around my eyes landing on a table in the corner. A figure lay motionless, multiple tubes attached to its arms and legs.

"Bucky let's go we have to get out of here!" Sharron called as I coughed to try to expel the smoke from my lungs.

"Go! I'll be right behind you!" I quickly made my way over to the table to see a woman strapped down, the tubing draining her blood. Despite the smoke, I could see the slow rise and fall of her chest. She was still alive. I quickly pulled the cords off her and unclasped the enforced straps keeping her down.

"Let's get you out of here." I spoke to the unconscious girl as I lifted her into my arms and dashed towards the stairs. I took them 2 at a time, careful not to hit her head off the wall. I ducked behind rubble and other shipping containers to stay out of the way, bullets were being fired left right and center.

"Who's the girl?" Sam gave the girl a glance as I crouched beside him.

"Don't know. She was in the lab." Her head had come to rest on my shoulder as she laid limply in my arms. I saw her for the first time in the light, her hair was matted and blood seeped from where the tubes had been but there was something surreal about her, something familiar.

"I'm out!" Sharron called as she ran out of bullets. I bit my lips wondering how to get out of here. A rapid-fire of bullets rang out. A masked man stood atop one of the crates, gun in hand as he picked off people one by one. Using the distraction we made a run for it, using the containers as cover we ran for the place we had left the car.
The girl began to stir and I glanced down as Zemo pulled up in the car.

"Come with us." Sam was talking with Sharron as I shifted the woman so she lay in my lap as we took the front seat. She shook her head as her eyes fluttered open.

Y/n's P.O.V.

I shook my head, blinking to clear my vision. I was being jostled around and I realized I was in a car.

"Who are you?" My accent was thick as my eyes focused on the man holding me. I sat up glancing around as alarm bells went off in my brain.

"Where am I?" Thousands of other questions were swimming through my mind as I remembered the lab. That scientist had kept me sedated as he used my blood to reverse engineer the super-soldier serum they had used on me in the 40s

"Stop squirming." He didn't answer my question but I felt his grip tightened and I looked down to see a metal arm wrapped around my waist.

"Haha... Yeah no." I had no idea who these people were and if they weren't going to tell me I would be better off getting the hell out of here. I squirmed out of his grip and threw myself out of the fast-moving vehicle.

"What the fuck?!" I laughed to myself as I landed on my feet. I brushed my hands together but when I turned back the man with the metal arm was standing a few paces in front of me.

"How did you do that?" He looked me up and down.

"Why don't you come here and find out?" I challenged cracking my knuckles.

"I don't want to hurt you. If I wanted you dead I would have left you to burn in the lab." He tilted his head a stoic look on his face.

"Why'd you save me?" I was piecing together events that had led to this moment in my head. "Well for starters I didn't think you were going to be this much of a pain in the ass." My jaw clenched at his remark.

"Well forgive me. I woke up in the arms of some strange man, not in the fun way, after spending 3 months in a lab where some psycho was bleeding me dry." I glared stepping towards him. He sighed running a hand through his short hair.

"You're the super-soldier he was using to make the serum." He looked at me as it all came together for him. I nodded carefully, observing his reaction.

"Look I'm not going to hurt you. We are currently hopelessly outnumbered since a woman stole the serum. We could really use you." I gave him a curious look as I stepped closer to him, taking in his stance and the way he held himself.

"You're like me, aren't you? How old are you?" I asked circling him slowly.

"106 and yes, I am." So he was one of the originals too. He faced me almost like he was trying not to scare me away.

"Who are these new super-soldiers?" Curiosity got the better of me as I asked.

"They call themselves the Flag Smashers." I had heard talk of them in the rare time I wasn't sedated. They were displaced people after everyone came back. I had been part of the vanished, making me an easy target as I tried to adjust to the new reality. In a way, it was my fault they had gotten their hands on the serum. After all, it was made with my DNA.

"I have nothing better to do, so why not." I nodded putting my hand out for him to shake. He took it a small grin on his face.

"Well if you two are done can we get a move on?" One of the men from the car ahead called back to us.
