Brain scowled.
His cheeks were warm. How annoying.
He looked over at his cagemate. The larger of the two was a bumbling mess, laughing as he played with the tuft of Brain’s fur. Their latest plan in world domination had gotten them thrown into the window of a bar. Pinky had landed in some of the alcohol and well… now here they were. Brain had had to carry the larger mouse back to the lab with much trouble. More trouble than Brain would ever admit. He didn’t realize just how much bigger Pinky was than him and how heavy he would be carrying him for a long period of time. Somehow though, he managed. The events that played out afterwards were… interesting to say the least.
“Braaaain?” Pinky’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
“What is it, Pinky?” He responded, with a bit more venom than he’d meant to.
“Braaaainy Waaainy… hehe..” Pinky trailed off, leaning his head on Brain’s shoulder. “Do you like me?”
The question caught Brain off guard. It was so straightforward; so sudden!
“What do you mean, Pinky? Of course I… tolerate you. I live with you, don’t I?”
“No no nooo, silly Brain!” Pinky giggled, sitting up and facing his friend, cupping his chubby cheeks in his paws. “Do you… like me~?” He asked again, batting his eyelashes.
Brain felt his face warm up more. First with all the affection and now this?? It was annoying already with his cheeks being warm and now it had spread to his entire face! “I…” Brain felt what he could only assume was the equivalent of what humans referred to as ‘butterflies’ in his stomach. The thought of flying insects in his abdomen repulsed him. What a strange saying.
“…Because I really like you, Brain! Zort!” Pinky continued without receiving a proper response. “I like you a whoooole lot! In fact, I.. think I lo-” Pinky was cut off by Brain’s hand covering his mouth.
“No, don’t…” Brain looked away. “D-don’t say that, Pinky. You… you don’t mean it! You’re just drunk.”
Pinky frowned.
“Tomorrow you’ll have completely forgotten we’ve had this conversation and you’ll go right back to your normal self.” Brain continued, moving his hand away and rubbing his shoulder.
“Brain..” Pinky started, grabbing hold of Brain’s hand. “That’s not true. I’ve felt this way for you for a really really super long time, but I could never get it out. It’s like it was all stuck in there or something but now it’s all loose and it’s flowing out of me like a river! Woooosh! Narf!”
Brain’s heart felt like it was going to explode. “You… you really mean that?” He looked down. “But Pinky, I’m so horrible to you.. I hurt you and, and..”
“You’re getting better every day. And I know you don’t really mean it, Brain. You’re just hurt, that’s all.”
Brain’s eyes widened.
“You know, hurt people hurt people, Brain. Troz!”
“Pinky you are the kindest and stupidest mouse I’ve ever met.” Brain replied, tears welling up in his eyes.
“Oh just shut up and kiss me already!” Before Brain could react, he was pulled into a kiss. Now it felt like his entire body was heated up. In a microwave! He fell into it and kissed Pinky back, crying all the while. Gosh he was a mess, what did Pinky see in him?
When they were done, Pinky fell asleep on Brain’s lap. Typical.
“I love you too, Pinky.” Brain said under his breath, bringing Pinky to the bed and laying down beside him. He sighed to himself, watching Pinky’s chest rise and fall softly.
And then he was pulled into Pinky’s arms. Pinky curled around him, cuddling the smaller like a teddy bear.
Brain smiled.
