arsonist’s lullaby

Summary:

To the untrained eye, Charlie Dalton has got to be the worst boyfriend ever.

Notes:

a short one because I've been having a not-so-good-time recently with a weird "guilt"/worrying-about-things-that-aren't-my-problem/keeping-secrets-from-parents/filial-piety-type of problem and would love if y'all could just comment something nice (so I have something to read back whenever I feel low) :(

s/o to himbo-knox on tumblr for their post that I've included in this fic!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Don't you ever tame your demons

But always keep them on a leash”

To the untrained eye, Charlie Dalton has got to be the worst boyfriend ever.

Whenever Knox feels sad and asks a hug from his boyfriend, Charlie will call him a “sappy bitch”.

When Knox stays in bed because he’s gotten sick from studying too hard, Charlie will chuckle on his way out, subtly hinting about the fact that he “told him so”.

When Knox practices for soccer and misses the goal for the hundredth time, Charlie will mock him, yelling a loud “boo!”from the side.

When Knox drags Charlie to various hobby gatherings because he’s wanted to try something new for the first time, Charlie will complain the entire time and go only once and then never attend again.

When Knox writes Charlie overly-corny poetry and reads it to him, Charlie will ridicule him, saying he could “make fondue out of this cheesy-ass poem!”

When Knox fails a test, Charlie will either say nothing or resort to “sucks to suck”.

When Knox is sleeping in bed, he’ll hear Charlie call him a “dumb stupid bitch” and ask himself “why do i even like you, you dumb whore”.

When Knox gets mocked for having a boyfriend by kids from other schools, Charlie will roll his eyes and tell him that he should “know better than pay them mind”.

It baffles people sometimes how Knox can stand such horrible treatment from his boyfriend. He was a perfect catch, who could have any person he wants but instead endures the actions of a douche like Charlie.

So how is it that they’re still together?

The answer is: because Charlie Dalton is a man of action.

Charlie will call Knox a “sappy bitch” when he’s sad...but will always give him a tight hug right after.

Charlie will tease Knox for getting sick...but will always copy extra hard in class for that day just so Knox can have full notes from class.

Charlie will mock Knox when he doesn’t get a soccer move right...but will always be there to teach him the move, over and over again, even until the sky turns dark.

Charlie will complain about the clubs endlessly and attend only the first meeting...but will always pick Knox up after every single one.

Charlie will make fun of Knox’s cheesy poetry...but will always hang it on his wall or keep it in neatly in a box with all of Knox’s other poems.

Charlie will not give much thought on what to say when Knox gets an F on a test...but will always help him study extra hard for the next one...even if he, himself, isn’t good at that class.

Charlie will jokingly call Knox names when he’s sleeping...but will always have it followed by a caress to the cheek or a pepper of a million, little kisses on his face.

Charlie will reprimand Knox on how he shouldn’t mind hateful comments from others...but will always remember the guy’s face so he could beat him up when Knox is out of sight.

To the untrained eye, Charlie Dalton has got to be the worst boyfriend ever.

Knox, however, thinks otherwise.

And isn’t that all that matters?

Notes:

1. When I was younger, I saw a fic like this but never saw it again so s/o to that person lol

2. I'm aware that it can seem like Charlie is a dick but rest assured, he's just very unexpressive words-wise.

3.Feel free to leave a kudos or a nice comment! I love reading them!
