Queen of Snakes

Summary:

He was just a boy. A loud, arrogant, useless excuse for a boy. He cheated on charms tests, bullied the first years, and did the unthinkable. He stole Elva’s heart.

It was rather rude of him, all things considered. Elva Varian was the first half-blood Slytherin in seventy-five years, and it was all she could do to keep her feet underneath her.

And of course, there was Fred. A year above Elva, kind, daring, and utterly devoted to her. What was a girl to do?

Notes:

The story kicks off with a flash...forward? to right before their sixth year. Afterwards, the story will go back to third year. Enjoy!!

Chapter 1: The Boy Who Had No Choice

Chapter Text

~SIXTH YEAR~

How did I end up here? I knew the path I chose was a dangerous one, but this? Sitting mere meters away from the Dark Lord himself was not something I had foreseen in any of my plans or strategies. The goal was the boy who sat next to me, his body paralyzed by fear.

It had always been him. Every Quiddich match preformed to the best for his favor. Every flirt for the sole purpose of me, the half-blood slytherin to catch his eye. And at last, he chose me. He hadn't chosen this deathly order, but at least we chose each other.

"Draco"

The Dark Lord's voice rang out in the great hall.

Draco looked up slowly, lifting his chin and staring Voldemort dead in the eye.

"I believe you already have a guess as to what your task will be?"

My eyes widened as the meaning hit me, I looked over at Draco, whose face bore a similar expression.

Smoothly Lucius cut in,

"Yes, my lord, Draco is ready for this great honor."

I took a deep shaking breath as I looked around the room. Would no one object? Would no one say anything? Narcissa looked as if she had been handed a death sentence herself, but other than that, the faces in the room ranged from jealous rage that such a task was given to a child, to complete indifference.

I took another breath to steady myself, and then raised my voice.

"My lord, will all due respect, this is a suicide mission."

Draco put a hand on my arm, trying to silence me, but I pushed onward, not heeding his warning or my own beating heart telling me to stop before it was too late.

"For someone to pull this off and live...by themselves is near impossible."

The shadowed faces around the table were shocked now. I think Lucius would have killed me if he could've.

But the dark lord just sat. Thinking. Then after a couple moments of silence he started to laugh.

Yes. Laugh.

I sat there in shock, wondering if this was when he decided to kill me. But this was not the day, for he only looked me in the eye and said,

"Very well then, I was going to make Draco do this completely alone, but thanks to your..."

He paused, considering in amusement.

"Impassioned speech, I shall let you assist Draco. After all, you will both be at Hogwarts."

I nodded.

"Thank you, my lord."

The dark lord smiled with a grimace and then motioned with a hand.

"Now, let us continue to other matters."

The voices of the death eaters faded into nothing as I became lost in my mind.

I was going to kill Dumbledore.
