Alpha babies were incredibly possessive. They did not like to share. They especially disliked sharing good-smelling omegas.
A Yuan liked to stick to his mother even when he was not drinking. He was not as clingy when Wei WuXian was still in a comatose state, but now that the latter was awake and responsive, A Yuan hated to part from him for even a while. When he was in his mother's arms, he was also very much against other people getting near to his mom, except for his dad.
To JingYi's greatest dismay.
The boy pulled at Wei WuXian's sleeves while the latter gently rocked baby A Yuan for some nap. Wei WuXian smiled at JingYi and patted the sullen-looking boy while asking, "JingYi, what is it? Why do you look so unhappy?"
Seeing that he lost his mother's attention, A Yuan quickly began to whine.
Wei WuXian, "…"
JingYi on the other side also started to bawl while still holding onto Wei WuXian's sleeves.
Wei WuXian sighed, "Boys…"
He took JingYi by his tiny hand and led him to the porch to sit together. He was hoping to entice the boy with some rabbits that Lan WangJi kept as pets for the little ones, but JingYi sat on his lap instead and ignored the cute rabbits hopping around just before his eyes.
One baby in his arms and a little boy on his lap. Wei WuXian gave them both loving squeezes. A Yuan and JingYi shared the same golden eyes. They could easily pass as brothers instead of cousins, Wei WuXian thought in his heart.
Although Wei WuXian cherished JingYi as much as A Yuan, Wei WuXian always remembered the little secret at the back of his mind. That Lan JingYi's mother was not in some distant, unknown place. The whereabouts of his mother were in fact very clear.
After the Sunshot Campaign concluded, Meng Yao's name rose to fame. It turned out that he was an illegitimate son of Jin GuangShan's. Jin GuangShan happily welcomed back a Sunshot Campaign hero to Koi Tower and acknowledged Meng Yao as his son. He went as far as giving Meng Yao a new name : Jin GuangYao. Other than Lan XiChen and Wei WuXian, no one knew that Jin GuangYao was in fact an omega.
JingYi basked in the warmth of the sunlight and curled up on Wei WuXian's lap. A Yuan quickly fell asleep, leaving Wei WuXian to play with JingYi. He caressed JingYi's soft hair and wondered if Meng Yao ever missed JingYi. Did he not want to spend time around this adorable son of his? How could he bear to let go of JingYi? Although he knew that Lan XiChen would take good care of JingYi? Wei WuXian could not do it. He could not leave A Yuan behind, not even with Lan WangJi. He just wanted to be around his baby, take care of him, watch him grow.
Lan WangJi came home not long after.
He gave his wife a tender kiss before taking A Yuan from his wife's arms and cuddled the sleeping baby.
"Welcome home, Lan Zhan."
"Mn. I am home, Wei Ying."
Wei WuXian lifted JingYi into his arms and followed Lan WangJi inside the Jingshi. The boy happily shrieked and clutched at Wei WuXian's clothes.
Wei WuXian, "How's the Discussion Conference?"
Lan WangJi, "It went well. Xiongzhang stayed behind to help Sect Leader Jin with a few things."
Wei WuXian raised an eyebrow.
"Jin GuangShan seems to enjoy ordering ZeWu-Jun around, these days."
Lan WangJi, "Sect Leader Jin is in favor of electing a new Chief Cultivator to replace Wen RuoHan."
A new Chief Cultivator? You must be kidding me.
"I thought everyone would agree to abolish this abominable position."
"Jin GuangShan thought that cultivation world should have a leader."
"Let me guess. He wants to be the new Chief Cultivator."
Lan WangJi stroked Wei WuXian's arm lovingly.
"He did not say that."
"But he wants to, am I right? Talking about Jin GuangShan, I did not see him fighting for life and death at Nightless City, but he's so quick to nominate himself to be a Chief Cultivator. Ha!"
"Either way, even if he becomes the new Chief Cultivator, everyone should be safe."
Wei WuXian sneered.
"Yeah because the Jins are thankfully only rich pricks with no ambition to rule over all of cultivation world."
Lan WangJi sat at his desk and gestured Wei WuXian to sit next to him.
"Koi Tower will host two weddings next month."
Wei WuXian fed JingYi with an osmanthus cake.
"I know. Shijie sent me the wedding invitation. I can't believe that she's going to marry that peacock. Who's the second couple?"
"Jin GuangYao and Qin Su."
Wei WuXian's eyes widened in shock. He immediately straightened up and stared at his husband. JingYi grabbed the rest of the cake from Wei WuXian's hand and gobbled it down.
"Jin GuangYao???"
Qin Su. Qin Su was a beta young lady from LaolingQin Sect. Jin GuangYao did not only hide his identity as an omega, he even went as far as marrying a beta female just to pave a path in the cultivation world. Wei WuXian felt sad for JingYi. It did not look like Jin GuangYao planned to play the role of JingYi's mother at all.
Lan WangJi, "Do you know Jin GuangYao well?"
Wei WuXian, "Oh, nothing in particular. We were both there during the battle at Nightless City."
Lan WangJi mn-ed.
Wei WuXian watched as Lan WangJi gently cuddled A Yuan, not wanting to wake him up but also could not help to give him some love. It was such a precious sight. Was this not something that Meng Yao wanted to experience, together with Lan XiChen and JingYi?
"M-Mommy…"
Lan WangJi looked up at JingYi.
Wei WuXian blinked at the boy in his arms.
"M-Mommy…" he repeated. The boy's lips trembled. He looked like he's close to tears.
Wei WuXian hugged him and consoled him, "There, there. Good boy, good boy."
Lan WangJi said nothing. He merely reached out to pat JingYi on the head.
Lan XiChen came by before dinner time to pick JingYi up. JingYi was happy to see his father but he stayed glued to Wei WuXian. Lan XiChen laughed.
"Where is WangJi? Is JingYi being a bother?"
Wei WuXian, "He's bathing A Yuan. No, not at all."
Lan XiChen peeled JingYi off Wei WuXian easily. He had had a lot of practice because this happened practically every day.
Lan XiChen, "JingYi, you can come back tomorrow. Let's go home alright?"
JingYi growled at his father, but the latter was not impressed. Then he started to whine.
Alpha babies are so funny in front of other alphas, hahaha…
This too, is a sight that one would not want to miss, isn't it?
Wei WuXian was itching to talk about Jin GuangYao, but he knew it was not his business. It was clear that this was a sensitive topic. Lan XiChen would not want to hear about it. But what about JingYi? Did JingYi not have the right to know about his mother? He clearly needed a mother. Wei WuXian could play his mother all he wanted, but he was not his mother. His real mother was close by, if only…
Lan XiChen nodded at Wei WuXian, "Then, Wei Ying, we excuse ourselves. Thank you for always taking good care of my son."
Wei WuXian smiled.
"No need to say thanks."
And then the opportunity was gone. Wei WuXian bit himself in the lips. He waved at JingYi, who was not happy to leave at all. Long after the boy was out of sight, Wei WuXian could still hear him cry.
All children want their mothers around them, don't they…?
Wei WuXian sighed and went inside the Jingshi to find his husband and son. Lan WangJi was just drying A Yuan off with a towel when he entered. Wei WuXian took the naked baby from Lan WangJi wordlessly and peppered him with kisses.
JingYi too deserves to be happy with his parents…
Lan WangJi put his arms around Wei WuXian and A Yuan. Wei WuXian looked up and Lan WangJi bent down slightly to kiss him.
"I love you, Wei Ying."
Wei WuXian pulled Lan WangJi down for another kiss.
"I love you, Lan Zhan."
Between them, A Yuan squealed happily.
