Chapter 1: Of the Moon

Chapter Text

It seemed like a perfect evening. The stars were out. The moon full and bright. The cool midnight breeze was calm and soothing..you couldn't help but take your camera out with you for your nightly stroll.

Eager to take a few shots, you adjust your camera settings, occasionally peering through the viewfinder to test it. Distracting you from the large burly figure slowly approaching you from behind, wondering why you were still up so late.

"Taking a few photos are we?" You whipped around to see DIO, your boss..technically, honestly not even you were sure what your relationship with him was. Unfazed by his sudden appearance, you simply smile at him.

"Evening Dio-chan~--" It irked him whenever you'd address him so casually. You were the same age as him, and you knew that. You just didn't care. "--or uh, morning? Whichever makes more sense."

You waved dismissively before turning your attention back to your camera, face collected and focused. DIO had always admired how passionate you were about your hobby, how something so menial like taking photos made such an impact on you and how you present yourself.

Often he'd find himself staring at you, he would never openly admit because of pride, but he'd involuntarily do it. And because of that, he's noticed a handful of things in the ten months he has spent with you.

How your eyes narrow a little to peer through your viewfinder. How your nimble fingers worked their way around the camera as if it was second nature. And your subtle yet satisfied smile whenever you seemed to get the perfect angle, before making the shot.

His thoughts were abruptly cut short however when he felt suddenly bombarded by a white flashing light and the shutter of your camera. The larger man winced and reeled away from you from the blinding glare with a quiet hiss.

He scowls upon hearing your chuckle, finding his small outburst kinda cute. "Relax Dio-chan, I'm taking pictures of the moon! Wanna see?"

He was silent. Pondering on your offer. "Very well. Show me."

With a delighted beam you edge towards him and you stand on your tippy toes, practically shoving the camera in his face to get him to see. He had to jolt back so that the piece of film equipment wouldn't collide with his face.

You barely reached his collarbone, and he noticed how you struggled a little with your footing.

He had to admit the drastic size difference between you and him amused the immortal god.

The monitor of your camera finally came in line with his vision, he peers down to take a look at your latest capture. Your photos had always seemed to leave him in such awe. He knew of the wonders filmography had to offer.

But yours..were on another level.

Sometimes you'd be a little embarrassed to show him some of your photos, saying- no, insisting that they weren't your best works. But..honestly?

He found all of your photos to be rather beautiful.

"They look..adequate." He lied through his fanged teeth.

Not really catching onto his restrained urge to gush on how marvelous your work was. You smiled nonetheless, lifting down the camera from his face. "Really??" You wanted him to affirm, your eyes sparkling like the stars above, incredibly flattered by the short yet meaningful compliment. "Why of course, do you doubt my word? (L/n)?"

"Often. But thank you!" He deadpanned. Not expecting your reply.

You ignore his almost dumbfounded face and click through your gallery, looking at your latest works with a proud smile. "Ohh maybe I can turn these into a physical print!! Keep them in my album or something!" Your mutter, however hushed, was loud enough for DIO to hear. "Another one of your stand abilities?"

You laughed. "Of course not. My stand curses and kills people if I see it fit, you nearly had a firsthand experience with them didn't you? It's not a scanner." You explained to him like a mother talking to their child.

To which he returned with a confused yet stubborn expression. "A scanner? What are you- ugh. Never mind. I'm not going to inquire any further. I, DIO, have no interest towards whatever modern technology you hav- WRRYY-!"

He let out his signature vampire noise as a sudden flash of light quickly overwhelmed his senses accompanied with again, the sound of a camera shutter. Groaning he quickly turned away and shielded his eyes with his hand.

"Haha. You did the scream thing." Your voice was dismissive and smug.

Infuriating little....

As soon as he stopped seeing white, irked golden irises meet your blank almost amused ones, your camera in your hand. Shamelessly not focusing on DIO-- who by the way, currently looked like he was gonna commit a homicide --and instead turned your attention onto your camera screen.

"Um. HELLO?! WHAT WAS THAT FOR ?" He screamed.

"Keep it down! Geez Dio-chan, you're gonna wake all your little hussies up!" You bring your finger to your lips.

"Well then maybe don't flash your camera in my eyes!"

"I was only trying to take a picture of you. But there's no point anyway, you're not even showing up in the bloody thing." You frowned, still looking at the camera with a confused look.

"Of course I don't show up in photos. I'm a vampire, darling." He deadpanned.

You let out a sigh. "Aw, and you looked really pretentious acting all high and mighty like that..it would've been funny.." DIO glowered. "You wouldn't dare."

"That's the thing! I would but I can't!" You ignored his killing glare as you often did. "Ugh. You're impossible woman." He remarked. "I could easily say the same thing for you." You found yourself boldly replying.

This'll be sure to fit in along with the many other times he was so close to killing you.

The woman he initially thought to be another one of his blood bags has turned into one of the most infuriating, blood-curdling yet interesting people he had ever met.

"Great. Now this depressing discovery is turning me sleepy."

You yawned. "So? Go back to your chambers then." DIO raised an eyebrow. "My room's too far away though." You sighed, which sparked a little idea. You turn to him. "Hey, Dio-chan, can you carry me to my room please? Or maybe to like..the third floor."

The audacity of this woman! He seethed. After what you tried to do you're gonna ask him for a favor? Seriously? "Why should I?" He glared. "Please? Just this once Dio-ch-"

He scowled.
"I mean- uh...Lord DIO?" you say his preferred alias with an uncomfortable grimace, although you knew doing so would maybe make DIO reconsider. You confirmed your victory as an amused smirk appeared on his face.

That's good enough.

All of a sudden DIO was at the foot of the stairs to the 3rd floor. A certain sleeping photographer in his hands.

You didn't even make it past the balcony you just passed out as soon as you laid your head on his chest, it basically had the same feel as a firm pillow. Not that'd you'd ever tell him that.

Yet.

He sighed. He was tempted to just drop you on the floor then retreat back to his own studio. But a part of him wanted to at least take you to your room. Maybe tuck you in, pat your head and give you a little kissy kiss.

Those last three suggestions were purely sarcastic by the way just to be clear. Yeah.

He soon enters the dimly lit room, the tapestry that was supposed to be covering your window for the day was brushed to the side to let the moonlight in.

He was going to have to make you fix that the next morning. And maybe not go to your room unceremoniously after that. Much to his dismay.

He laid you down onto the canopy bed, trying to be as gentle as he can as to not wake you up. He couldn't exactly decipher why he was acting this way, and towards you, the most insufferable individual he ever had the misfortune of trying to kidnap.

Although..a part of him didn't want that to change.

His nearly sentimental banter was rudely interrupted by the sound of your loud snoring, stretching in your sleep like a cat before curling over to your side.

With a deadpan, he removed the camera from your grasp, putting it away. Ugh..it's better get that out of the way before your drool destroys it. He turns to leave, but took one last glance at your peaceful sleeping face.

And he swore he felt his heart flutter.
