Chapter 1: Excuse Me, Where am I?

Chapter Text

It was a perfect day for a walk. Sunny, if not a bit cold. Izuku Midoriya pulled on a jacket, beanie, and medical mask as he stepped out the door to explore the familiar landscape. With music blaring on black and green over-ear headphones, he was lost in his own world. That is, until it was suddenly warm with no sun and a weird cloth out of nowhere wrapping around him.

Izuku’s eyes widened as he took in his surroundings. He was standing on a long table in a room surrounded by people dressed in odd clothing. Holding onto the cloth is a scruffy man in all black, eyes bright red and hair appearing to float. What is this, a comic convention?

“Who do we have the pleasure of meeting?” a high pitched voice softly questioned. He turned his head to look from where the sound came, but there was nothing but some kind of animal in that direction. What is that? A mammal for sure. No bigger than lap dog. Dismissing the animal, he continued to search for the owner of the voice. The animal, seemingly not pleased with the dismissal, climbed onto the table and walked up to him. With Izuku’s full attention it repeated itself.

“Who are you?”

Izuku rapidly blinked a few times. What. The Hell.

“My name is Nedzu. He/Him,” the animal continued, “what is your name?”

Why is an…animal? Asking for my name.

While Izuku mentally erred, he felt the cloth binding him release. Izuku finally stuttered, “I-Izuku. Izuku M-Midoriya.” God why did I stutter. Come on brain, catch up.

“Well, Midoriya, why don’t you climb off my table and tell me what you are doing here.” With a nervous laugh Izuku followed instructions. Once down he glanced around the room again. There are quite a few people in here. Based on clothing this really does seem like a comicon.

A man with a tall mohawk offered a chair him. Once situated Izuku took a deep breath to gather himself.

“Um. I don’t really know. Where is this?” Nedzu made a motion that could only be interpreted as his version of raising an eyebrow. A scoff could be heard from across the table. The general sentiment seemed to be disbelief.

“You are in a staff meeting room at my school: UA.” Nedzu responded slowly.

“Okaaaayyy. I have no idea where that is. Um…so…I’m sorry if I interrupted something.” may as well try to be at least little polite. Momma didn’t raise me to be rude, even if I’m probably tripping.

Nedzu, carefully looked over the stranger – Midoriya – again. His mask. His clothing style. Something seemed out of place. Just then a knock sounded on the door. Izuku glanced to his left to see a tall, skeletal blonde letting whoever it was enter the room.

“Perfect timing, Detective. We were just beginning to question our trespasser here.” After acknowledging the newcomer Nedzu turned back to the stranger, “I hope you don’t mind we called in the Detective, we need to be sure there is nothing…nefarious going on here. Tsukauchi, would you like to take over?” Nodding in affirmation the detective – Tsukauchi – grabbed a chair and sat across from Izuku.

Huh. I guess I am a trespasser. Great. Hope I don’t lose my job over this.

“Can you tell me your name and age?” He asked.

Izuku took another deep breath. I should probably be as cooperative as possible. It may lesson whatever trouble this is.

“Izuku Midoriya. 26.”

“Ok Good. What is your quirk?”

At this question Izuku furrowed his eyebrows and slightly tilted his head. What the fuck is a quirk. Is he asking what makes me different from others?

“My…what? I mean I guess I have an odd dislike of ketchup?”

Tsukauchi briefly paused his pen’s movements over the notepad and looked back up, confused by the response. Nedzu cleared his throat. “Midoriya, do mind me asking, when is your birthday?”

“July 15, 1994”

At that Tsukauchi completely set down the notepad with wide eyes.

“And can you tell me the current date?”

Odd. Why would they ask me that. They think I’m crazy or something?  “January 15, 2021”.
