Chapter 1: From Old to New

Chapter Text

Luck wasn't something Haruno Shiobana was born with.

The boy felt like his life had been nothing but a turmoil and bad luck over and over, consuming him like a whirlpool does ships or like how lava claimed whatever it touched. That's what the emerald eyes had seen, hatred and sadness and nothing else. Fate was a cruel mistress that forced those unfortunate to grow up faster than others.

It was no kinder to Haruno Shiobana, the boy having been forced to grow up too soon. He'd stopped crying for food when he was only two, stopped asking for permission to play with other children in their settlement when he was five. His only joy had been a rabbit he had found and befriended, he would hide under a barrel with her when his step-dad would come back home from work shaking with her in his clutch as he raised his voice for him.

He would come in with food he'd stolen telling them he had gotten them food so they would leave him alone. Haruno had gotten good at that, stealing and pickpocketing out in plain sight. He was a forgettable child no one noticed him.

It was a dreadful day when his stepfather had found him feeding hay to the rabbit, he'd had him kill and skin her for dinner. Giorno stopped favoring meat after that.

His only salvation from the family that hated him was a person that passed the settlement once every month, he'd held out a bandage for the bleeding person and they only smiled and pat his head, bought him dinner, and left to the inn. They'd become his salvation his escape in his cruel life.

Every month they'd come to buy him food, treat his wounds from his stepfather and talk about their adventures.

At eleven his hero inspired him, he wanted adventures and tales of his own. he'd stolen a book from the settlements little library and began studying on his own, flora and fauna. He snuck into survival classes and watched from the corner. Asked his hero to teach him how to start a fire, telling them his parents would never teach him.

At twelve he woke up with his long curled locks bright and blonde instead of the dull hair he had before. He woke up with an ability strange to him but all the same time it was a familiar feeling like he had maybe possessed something akin to it in a past life. He had woken up with a lotus flower in his hand. Holding it close to his chest he made his decision.

He held on ignoring his mothers' insults and
He was thirteen when he packed up in the dead of night, stole the knife his stepfather kept, along with a baseball bat he had hidden under his bed, jumping out the bedroom window he ran.

Haruno ran and ran and never looked back.

That day Haruno Shiobana had died.

Giorno Giovanna was born into the world anew, with fate into his own hands.
