Work Text:
It happened as their manager, Mayu, drove them home after a late night of rehearsal. They had a live show scheduled that Saturday, so their rehearsals ran late. Normally, they walked home, but neither boy had brought an umbrella, as the forecast didn’t predict the sudden rain, and the rain was falling quite heavily, making walking on the sidewalk a little dangerous.
Yujiro sat next to Aizou in the back seat, yawning. He was exhausted. All he wanted to do was go home, shower, and sleep. In the meantime, however, as Aizou lived closer, they were on their way to his place first. He rested his head on Aizou’s shoulder, shutting his eyes. Aizou rested his hand over his, offering a small smile. The two had just recently started dating, and it was...nice. They still argued all the time, but that was just how they were.
“Ugh, I swear with this rain…” Mayu muttered in annoyance, “and why aren’t some people turning their stupid headlights on?”
Neither idol knew what to say.
Mayu stopped at a red light. Yujiro opened his eyes and glanced out the window. There were barely any cars out, just a few from late night runs. When the light turned green, she started driving again.
However, a large truck ran a red light to their right. As Mayu started driving ahead, the truck running the light crashed directly into the backseat doors, on Aizou’s side. Yujiro snapped awake. There was yelling, car tires screeching, really loud metal on metal collisions. The small car was thrown from impact, rolling and crashing into another car, the collision this time hitting Yujiro’s side. The car flipped and landed just off the street.
Everything went black.
_____
Yujiro woke to indescribable pain all over his body, and feeling extremely cold. He could faintly hear Aizou calling to him.
“-jiro. Yujiro! Yujiro, please open your eyes…” his voice was mostly quiet, trembling and cracking.
Yujiro groaned softly, his eyes slowly opening. His seat had been practically removed, slamming forward and pinning him to the ceiling of the car. He realized, grimly, that the car had landed upside down. “Ai...zou?”
“Oh thank god,” Aizou sounded like he was on the verge of tears, “Yujiro, are you okay?”
“No,” Yujiro grunted.
“Can you move?”
Yujiro took a painful breath and attempted to free himself. He cried out. “N-no. My left arm...it’s under th-the other car’s rubble...and my right...the seat’s pinning it down…”
“What...are your injuries?”
Yujiro coughed and shut his eyes. “Arms...not good. I think my right knee is smashed...I definitely have some cracked ribs...and…” he coughed again, feeling something warm trickling down his lips. Blood. He felt fear bubble up in his chest as he whispered, “I th-think...something...is impaling me.”
“Fuck,” Aizou grunted, sounding frustrated and panicked, “Mayu hasn’t woken up yet, I’d call...for help if I could...my right arm is stuck between myself and the door...and my left is stuck under my body...I think my knees got smashed in too,” he strained to look over at Yujiro, freezing. “Your head…”
“Huh..?”
“You’re bleeding...there’s a bad gash on your head…”
Yujiro struggled to turn to Aizou. When he managed to look, he felt his heart drop further. His face was bloody and bruised, a bad knot swelling on his forehead. His eyes were glazed over, like he was struggling to focus. Not to mention, his left shoulder was very clearly dislocated. It looked like he was struggling to breathe. “Aizou…”
“D-don’t worry about me,” Aizou wheezed, “something’s just...pressing against me, so it’s just a little hard to breathe.”
It took a little too long to realize what that meant. “Aizou, y-you’re being crushed!” Yujiro was terrified.
“Probably,” Aizou chuckled breathlessly, “might have...more broken bones than you...but you’re bleeding...so much…”
“I don’t care,” Yujiro’s voice was thick with emotion, “you have to...make it out of here.”
“So do you…”
Yujiro went silent, shutting his eyes tightly. He had to think. Was there any way to call for help? He couldn’t move, and Aizou definitely couldn’t. He wasn’t sure if help had been called or not.
“Yujiro,” Aizou sounded scared, “stay awake...I’ll try to...move us…”
“What..?”
“The rain,” his voice was shaking. Yujiro then noticed the rain had risen, and was slowly leaking into the car. They could drown if it got filled. But Aizou’s concern wasn’t that. “Yujiro, are you sure you can’t move..? The water can...speed the bleeding up…”
Oh. Oh . That’s right. He could bleed out faster...Yujiro felt tears pricking his eyes. “No, I can’t move.”
“Fuck, fuck, fuck!” Aizou raised his voice, only to cry out in pain.
“Boys..?”
“Manager!” Yujiro gasped, unable to see her properly, “are you okay?”
Mayu grunted. It sounded like a confirmation, but Yujiro wasn’t sure. He heard her shifting. “Has...has help...been called?” she asked.
“We don’t know,” Aizou answered, his voice an octave higher from pain.
Mayu shifted, then swore. “Phone’s busted...from the rain.”
Yujiro laid his head down, closing his eyes. He felt tired. He just wanted to sleep.
“Yujiro! Open your eyes!” Aizou sounded more hysterical. Yujiro found himself idly wondering how bad he looked, and if he was losing more blood than he thought. He could hear Mayu softly question him, but everything was getting fuzzier. He heard high pitched noises in the distance. It was getting harder and harder to focus. He tried to answer, but even to him, his words sounded slurred together. He could hear Aizou raising his voice, though his words were mushed together. He could hear the pained cries and gasps and coughs from Aizou, but he couldn’t ask if he was okay. He was sure Aizou would be fine, he just needed...a nap…
Aizou, meanwhile, wanted to scream when he saw Yujiro go limp. There was too much blood. There was blood all over his head from the gash, on the spot in front of him where his head was, staining his clothes. There was a whole pool of blood around him, and it was growing larger, especially with the rain water leaking in. Aizou attempted to move again, only to let out a choke and a harsh cough.
Thankfully, he could hear sirens coming closer and closer.
His mind struggled to keep up as paramedics got out of the vehicles, looking in the wrecked cars and finding how many people were in each car. They noticed Yujiro, and quickly went to work getting him out first, much to Aizou’s relief. He watched as they had to break the window more, and really struggled to maneuver him out. It was painful to watch, but in the end, they were triumphant.
They worked on him next. They had to use something to pry the seat up in order to get him out, and after god knows how long, they were successful. Aizou allowed himself to be put on a gurney, wheeled to the ambulance. He noticed there were only two ambulances left, and figured that the others had already been gotten out and taken to the hospital. Yujiro included.
Good… He thought, shutting his eyes. At least Yujiro was being treated.
He passed out before they got to the hospital, the last thing he heard was “he’s not breathing!”
_____
When Yujiro woke up, he was in the hospital. The ceiling was bright white, and his head pounded. He felt pressure all around his head, his body, and a strong pinch on his arm. He groaned and wanted nothing more than to fall back asleep. He noticed then how many flower bouquets were in the room. How long was he unconscious..?
How was Aizou doing?
He didn’t have to worry too long. He heard not just one heart monitor, but two. He turned his head to the left and saw Aizou, lying unconscious on a bed next to him. He wasn’t wearing a hospital shirt. His entire torso, neck, head, arms, everything was wrapped.
Yujiro faintly remembered the car. He remembered Aizou had been crushed. How bad had he really been?
A nurse walked in, then paused when she saw him awake. A look of relief passed her face. “Oh, good! You’re awake!”
Yujiro, too tired to use his prince voice, spoke tiredly. “How long..?”
“You’ve both been unconscious for three days.”
Three days. And Aizou still hadn’t woken up..? Yujiro glanced at him. The nurse checked his vitals, and made sure he was fine, before checking Aizou’s vitals. As she worked, Yujiro asked another question.
“How is he?”
“Well, from what I know, several of his ribs were snapped out of place. A couple of them came very close to piercing his lungs. He’ll be fine, though. In pain, but fine. How are you doing though, hun? You almost died too.”
“I did..?”
“Yes, you lost a tremendous amount of blood. We managed to give you a blood transfusion, but then yesterday you almost died again because of an infection. We’re giving you antibiotics through intravenous fluids.”
“Oh…”
The nurse smiled sympathetically. “It was all over the news not long after you two boys got here. We assume since you’re famous, it may be easier to share a room, and since you two are a duo…”
“Yes,” Yujiro croaked, “that’s fine.”
“We’ve been receiving flowers almost hourly, we put what we could allow in here, but there’s some outside the room and at the front desk,” the nurse sighed, “we’re trying to put a stop to it, so you may receive several letters instead.”
From that alone, Yujiro was afraid to check his social media.
The nurse left him after a bit to grab painkillers.
As he waited, he caught sight of a mirror on the wall and saw himself. He sucked in a breath, wincing slightly. His head had been bandaged, and there was a large patch on his cheek. His lower lip had been split, he had bruises lining his face. He was wearing a hospital gown, but he could feel the bandage wrapped around his torso and lower side, where he’d been stabbed. His left arm was also bandaged, albeit it was dark blue. It was badly bruised. He felt his kneecaps wrapped up, as well as one of his ankles. Not to mention, he was paler than usual. He looked weak.
The nurse came back not long after, giving him a large dosage of painkillers.
After a couple hours of laying there, the painkiller slowly setting in, he heard Aizou groan. Yujiro glanced at him. Aizou was shifting, his eyes opening. Yujiro sighed shakily in relief. “Thank god…”
“Yujiro?” Aizou turned to glance at him, his brown eyes still struggling to focus. After a moment, he smiled. “So you’re okay...I’m glad…”
“Idiot, that’s my line…”
Aizou let out a breathy laugh, wincing. “There’s...a lot of flowers here.”
“Our Julietta’s sent them. We’ve been out for three days.”
“Shit,” Aizou muttered, “doubt we’ll be getting back to work anytime soon.”
Yujiro snorted. “Probably not.” He noticed Aizou repeatedly glancing at the two IVs in his arm and sighed. “Blood transfusion and antibiotics. I have an infection.”
“...Right. I mean, it’s not surprising. The rain water isn’t really clean once it hits the streets,” Aizou said quietly.
“Yeah.”
Aizou slowly shifted himself to the edge of his bed, moving his bandaged right hand so it was in the middle of the two beds. Yujiro, glad his right arm was the one with the IVs, scooted closer to the edge and moved his own bandaged left arm to meet Aizou’s. Their hands were bandaged, so they couldn’t hold each other, but they were able to lock pinkies.
They’ll be fine.
They had each other, after all.
