Falling Spectacularly

Summary:

Sequel to Teach Me. Pang and Wave are dating but nobody knows. However, they aren't as subtle as they think they are.

Work Text:

For Wave, being around Pang wasn't easy. Wave's heart would beat fast every time Pang, his boyfriend, would walk into the room. His heart would beat during class, during lunch, and during tutoring. Tonight, of course, was no exception. Tonight marked the beginning of their weekly movie nights as a couple.

Wave marched his way over to Pang's room, laptop under one arm and an overnight bag over the other shoulder. He planned on staying over even if his room was only a few doors down. The overnight bag seemed like overkill, but he wanted to be prepared.

Pang opened his door with that stupid grin he always had plastered onto his face. Wave's heart started to race faster as if it belonged to an Olympic sprinter. He felt the urge to smile back at his boyfriend, but he resisted in favor of pushing past Pang to hide his rosy cheeks.

Wave sat down on the bed, and Pang followed, sitting right next to him. He was so close that their legs were touching. "What are we watching tonight?"

Wave shrugged. "I picked last time. It's your turn."

Pang stared at Wave with wide eyes. "You're really letting me pick the movie? Who are you, and what have you done with my boyfriend?"

Wave scoffed but internally cooed at the boyfriend part. "Nevermind. You lost your movie-picking privileges." He logged onto his Netflix account and scrolled. "Have you seen Death Note?" When Pang shook his head, Wave clicked on the icon bringing up the anime. "It's not a movie, but I think you'll like it."

"Are we starting a series together, then?" Pang asked. "Don't people only start a series when they'll be with each other for a long time?"

"If you don't shut up, I'm leaving."

Pang hugged Wave around the waist to hold him in place. "Nooo, I promise I'll be good. Please stay. I'll watch every series ever with you."

Wave rolled his eyes but stayed anyway. He settled back against the headboard of Pang's bed while Pang turned off all the lights. They settled in to watch the anime with Pang's arm resting on Wave's shoulders. The heavy feeling of Pang's arm made Wave's head feel fuzzy. All he could feel was Pang, Pang, Pang.

"Are you even watching this?" Pang asked about halfway through the third episode.

Wave sighed. "Honestly, not really. I'm just tired, sorry," he lied. He was actually distracted by how overwhelming being around Pang was.

Wave could feel Pang stick his face against the side of his head near Wave's ear. "Do you want to sleep, then? You can stay here if you want."

"Yeah, okay." Wave tensed a little, then said in a stern voice, "But no funny business or you're sleeping in the hallway."

Pang laughed. Wave's heart hurt. "You'll kick me out of my own room? Harsh."

"Don't test me." Wave closed his laptop and put it on the floor since Pang's nightstand was a mess. He snuggled under the blankets, and Pang followed shortly after.

"Can I at least hug you for a little bit? You smell really good."

Wave rolled his eyes. He thought that Pang smelled good too, but he would never say that out loud. "If you really want to."

So Wave fell asleep faster than he had in his life with his boyfriend's arm around his waist. He felt more comfortable with Pang in his messy room and unmade bed than he felt anywhere else. Being around Pang wasn't easy, but there was nowhere else he would rather be.

---

Wave didn't know why Pang showed up to his room to hang out if he was just going to lie on Wave's bed and play games on his phone. Don't get him wrong, Wave likes having Pang around, but did he really need to be here messing around instead of studying? Plus, he was distracting Wave from his own homework.

Wave ignored all the frustrated noises from Pang whenever he lost a match in his game. He just kept studying for his chemistry exam next week. He knew he would get an A, but he wanted to get higher marks than Punn.

Pang sighed and dropped his phone onto his chest. Wave was still writing notes when Pang said, "Hey, can I talk to you about something?"

Wave turned around and raised an eyebrow at his boyfriend. "Of course."

Pang sat up a little. "Can you come here? It's kind of important." Wave stood up and moved toward his bed, but Pang rambled on. "I mean, I don't know if you'll think it's important, but I've just been thinking a lot lately, and we're dating and I think you should know."

Wave sat down next to Pang and grabbed his hand. "Don't think too much. You'll hurt yourself."

Pang pouted. "Hey!"

Wave smirked. "I'm kidding. Just say what's on your mind."

Pang shifted on the bed and adverted his eyes away from Wave. "So, you know how when we got together, I said I wasn't gay?" He glanced at Wave for some sort of reaction. Wave stayed silent. "Well, I think I lied."

Wave shrugged. "It's not lying if you didn't know."

"That's the thing though," Pang continued. "I think I did know. Do you remember when Namtarn was flirting with me?" Wave nodded. "I didn't feel anything romantic toward her. I could only see her as a friend, at best a sister. I've never had a crush on anyone before I met you."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah!" Pang said. "When we started dating, I figured out that I'm really attracted to you. I've never felt like this before. It scares me so much, but it feels so right."

Wave smiled and looked down at their connected hands. "I'm really attracted to you, too."

Pang laughed. "Well, I'd hope so!"

Wave hesitated before squeezing Pang's hand. "I mean it though. I've thought about that stuff too, you know?" Pang's head snapped up to stare at Wave. "I've had crushes on girls before, so I always thought I was straight. But unlike back then, I really feel something with you, you know? You're so stupid it's endearing, but you're passionate and you don't let me push you around." Pang glared at Wave but otherwise didn't say anything. "I don't know if I'm bisexual or just gay, but honestly, I don't think it matters. I just know that I like you."

Pang grinned. "I'm really glad I met you." He sat his head on Wave's shoulder. "Even if you insult me every other sentence."

"It's how I show affection," Wave deadpanned.

Pang laughed and rolled his eyes. Wave snuggled into the warmth of his boyfriend, homework left forgotten on the other side of the room.

---

Wave and Pang's first real kiss wasn't anything special if you ask Wave.

Wave hasn't kissed anyone in his entire sixteen years of living. He wasn't expecting fireworks or anything spectacular like that. He was expecting his first kiss to be brief awkward contact with some faceless girl's mouth. Now that Wave had a boyfriend, he didn't know how to go about kissing. Of course Wave wanted to kiss Pang's stupid face, but how?

It was a Tuesday night and Wave was studying in the library with Pang nowhere in sight. Pang said he wanted to hang out with Ohm and Namtarn because he was spending all his free time with Wave and was neglecting his friends. Wave understood, even though he didn't have anyone to hang out with except for Pang. Wave knew that Pang was a lot more social than he was, and that was fine.

It was nearing nine in the evening when the door to the library slammed against the wall. Wave was shaken from his concentration, only to look up and find Ohm standing right in front of his table. Wave glared at Ohm. "What do you want?"

Ohm grinned but didn't say anything. Wave really didn't have the patience to deal with whatever shit Ohm was about to pull, so he rolled his eyes and got back to studying.

"Pang told me a secret about you," Ohm said. He moved to sit in the chair across from Wave.

"I'm sure he did," Wave said, not looking up from his book.

Ohm hummed a little. "He said that you and him watch movies together sometimes...and that you enjoy it? I never thought you, like, had any hobbies. All you do is complain and hack into the government's secret files or whatever. But you actually watch movies and don't sit around doing math for fun. It makes you seem more human."

Wave glared at Ohm. "Is this really the reason you wanted to annoy me? I'm busy, you know."

Ohm stared at Wave with wide eyes, but he didn't seem offended. Wave almost wished he was. "No, Pang told me to get you for him. He's having trouble with triangles or something."

Wave sighed and closed his textbook. "You should have said that first. Now I have a headache." Wave gathered all his things to put them in his bag. "Next time, tell him to get me himself."

With that, Wave left the library and Ohm behind. He made his way to Pang's dorm, but when he knocked, Pang didn't answer. Wave sighed and walked the twenty-five paces to his own room. He unlocked the door and found Pang sitting on his bed reading a volume of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

"Where did you even get that?" Wave pondered. He put his bag on his desk then joined Pang on the bed.

Pang didn't look up from his book. "Ohm gave it to me. He has every book in the series, can you believe that?"

Wave fell back onto the mattress. "Somehow, I do."

Pang glared at Wave. "You're so mean to him."

"He's annoying."

"You don't have to say it to his face, though." Pang put the book down on Wave's nightstand. "He's my friend, you know. Can you be a little nicer?" Wave glanced up at Pang's puppy dog eyes, regretting it immediately after. "For me?"

"How old are you, five?" Pang kept on giving Wave that look. Wave relented, "Fine, whatever. I'll be a little nicer."

"Thanks, babe." Wave's heart thumped. Pang had never called him babe before, but Wave thought he could get used to it.

"Ohm said you were having trouble with trigonometry," Wave remembered. He sat up and looked around for Pang's study materials, only to find that they weren't in the room at all.

Pang shrugged. "I mean, I am, but that was more of an excuse to get you to hang out with me."

"So you don't need help with your homework," Wave deadpanned.

Pang hugged Wave around the waist and looked up at him. "Please don't kick me out! I haven't seen you all day!"

Wave pushed Pang so that he was laying on the bed. "I wouldn't kick you out."

Pang pondered for a moment. "You're right. You always threaten to kick me out but you haven't done it once yet." Pang tugged on Wave's arm, then said, "Lay down with me. You need to relax."

Wave rolled his eyes but lied down anyway. "Says the guy who obsessed over destroying the hierarchy of our school."

Pang mocked offense. "It was oppressive and unfair and you helped me do it so don't act like you weren't a little obsessive too!"

Wave laughed and reached for Pang's hand, wrapping his fingers around his boyfriend's. "Whatever helps you sleep at night."

Pang pouted but didn't respond. The silence between the two hadn't always been as comfortable as it is now. Just being in the other's presence made Wave feel at ease. He never thought that another person could make him so content.

"Hey, Wave?" Pang asked after nearly ten minutes.

Wave looked at Pang. "Yeah?"

Pang looked into Wave's eyes. "Can I... kiss you?"

"...yeah."

Pang sat up a little. Their hands were still gripped tightly as Pang leaned down and pressed his lips onto Wave's. It was quick and innocent, but it was everything that Wave thought it would be. This kiss was so entirely Pang and Wave couldn't get enough.

Pang pulled away and looked at Wave, eyes pleading. "Okay?"

Wave sighed, breath shaking. "Yeah, okay." He hesitated for a second. "Can you kiss me again?"

Pang nodded with a huge grin on his face. "I think I can manage that."

---

"Hey Pang," Namtarn asked one day. "Are you and Wave dating?"

Pang almost choked on the chicken he was eating. He chugged some water before turning back to his friends, who were eyeing him suspiciously. "No, what makes you say that?"

Ohm was laughing. "I mean, you look at him like he hung the stars. It's hard not to notice. What do you see in him anyway?"

"What do you mean?" Pang sputtered. "I'm not even gay! What are you guys even talking about?"

Namtarn sighed. "Pang, your face is red. Don't you think we can tell when you're lying?"

Pang sighed and hid his face in his hands. "Okay, fine. Wave and I are dating," he mumbled. "But can you not bug him about it? He's kind of prickly and I want you guys to like him. He only looks scary, I promise."

Ohm snorted. "As if. What's he gonna do? Crash our computers? Wow, sooo scary!"

"I'll show you the kind of damage I can do if you don't shut up," Wave said, sitting down next to Pang. Pang didn't have to look up to know that his boyfriend had just appeared with his lunch.

"Please don't threaten my friends," Pang whined.

"I wouldn't have to if they weren't so annoying," Wave mumbled.

"Hey!" Ohm said.

Wave scoffed. "Oh please. I already know what your internet search history looks like. What kind of pleasure does glue-eating ASMR give you anyway?"

Ohm banged his head on the table in defeat while mumbling something about privacy. Namtarn stared at him in horror while Pang simply laughed.

"You are kind of scary, you know that? Remind me to never get on your bad side," Pang said between giggles.

Namtarn was staring at Wave, so he decided to mess with her a little bit. "You could never get on my bad side, baby," he said. He turned to Namtarn and smirked. "You figured out we were dating right? You're so nosy, Namtarn."

Namtarn blushed and looked down at her food. Pang nudged his knee against Wave. "Hey, don't bully them. You said you'd be nicer."

Wave thought back to when he actually agreed to be nice. Then he thought about them kissing right after. Wave blushed and muttered, "Whatever."

"That's what I thought," Pang said with a grin. Wave can't believe how whipped he was for this boy.

---

Wave and Pang started eating lunch together on the rooftop every Thursday. Pang was still hesitant about making their relationship known to the rest of their classmates, so he made sure to get into the line for lunch a while after Wave did. Wave didn't mind. Actually, he preferred not having to be questioned by the rest of the Gifted students.

This particular Thursday was warm and a bit breezy. The perfect weather to be eating outside with your boyfriend.

Since they started dating about two months prior, Wave has had an itch in the back of his mind. A feeling that he needed to talk to Pang about something really important. He didn't bother bringing it up until now because it was more of an in the future topic, but he knew they had to talk about it eventually.

"...hey," Wave said as Pang plopped down next to him. They each had a tray of pork fried rice. "I have to ask you something. It might be awkward."

Pang glanced at Wave. He swallowed a bite of the food then said, "What is it?"

Wave looked at his tray and mumbled, "So I know we haven't been dating very long, but I was wondering..." Wave's cheeks changed to a rosy pink. "What are we gonna do about... you know..." Wave glanced at Pang. His eyes were wide and his mouth was open wide enough to catch a fly. "Sex."

"Um." Pang's cheeks were turning a similar shade to Wave's "I don't know. I mean, I've thought about it, sure, but I wasn't sure what you would... want?"

Wave rolled his eyes. "Of course, you've thought about it, you pervert."

Pang sputtered, "What? You brought it up! That means you've thought about it too! Who's the pervert now, huh?"

"Ugh, okay, we're both perverts. Are you happy?"

Pang smiled. "Yeah, okay. So... what do you want to do about... yeah."

Wave shrugged. "I mean, we haven't done anything except for cuddle and, like, kiss. So do we work up to it? Or do we just... go in head first?"

Pang flushed. "Is that a pun?" Wave's eyes got wide. "Okay, I don't think you meant it like that. I think we should work up to it. I don't really know how to do this so..."

"Should we... research?" Wave suggested.

"Like... watch gay porn? Is that a good idea?"

Wave swallowed a bite of food. "Probably not, but what if something bad happens, you know?" Wave grimaced. "What if it hurts? We should do this right, you know?"

"I agree, but maybe we should hold off on the porn part for a bit? Maybe just start with..." Pang looked at his hands. "Whatever feels good?"

"Yeah, okay, that sounds okay."

There was an awkward silence between them. They kept eating and glancing at each other. It wasn't until they made eye contact that Pang started to laugh. "Why are we so awkward?" Wave couldn't help but laugh alongside him.

---

Wave was never late to class. When he skipped, he skipped for a reason, not because he overslept after staying up most of the night with his boyfriend who was still dead asleep when Wave left.

Wave tried sneaking into class 5-1 undetected, which proved to be a difficult task seeing as he sat on the opposite side of the room from the doors. The teacher didn't notice, but his classmates were snickering. The untouchable Wave making a delayed appearance in class? Unthinkable.

When class ended, Claire turned around and smiled sweetly at Wave. "I never thought you would be late for a math lesson. Was someone keeping you?"

Wave tried to school his expression, but he knew Claire could see what he was really feeling. "What would give you that idea?"

Claire shrugged. "I don't know, but I guess I have my answer now." She turned back to Punn and whispered something that made him raise an eyebrow.

Shit, Wave thought as he pulled out his cell phone. He sent a quick text to Pang, 'I think Claire knows.'

Pang responded right before the end of the break between classes. 'y didnt u wake me up???' it said with about six crying emojis. Then a 'wouldnt surprise me we arent the MOST subtle.'

Wave quickly responded with a 'Talk later, go to class, dummy.' before tuning back into the lesson.

Would it really be that bad if everybody knew? Wave thought. We were only really hiding it from Pang's friends, but they know now.

Class ended soon after, prompting Wave to bolt out of his seat and to the rooftop. He texted Pang to meet him there and to bring him food because he hadn't eaten at all that day. Pang responded with a few heart-eye emojis and a thumbs-up emoji.

When Pang got there he smiled at Wave, though he still looked really tired. "Hi."

Wave couldn't help but smile back. "Hey. Thanks for the food."

"No problem, babe." Pang plopped down next to Wave. "How did Claire find out?"

"She asked me a question and she knew I was lying. Then she told Punn. What do you think we should do?"

Pang picked at his food. "What can we do? The way I see it, they either out us or we tell everyone ourselves."

Wave shrugged. "It's up to you. I'll support you no matter what you decide."

Pang cooed. "Since when did you become so sweet, huh? My supportive boyfriend is so cute!" Pang hugged Wave around his shoulders and planted a loud kiss onto the side of his head.

Wave groaned. "I'm not sweet or cute, dumbass. Eat your food before I steal it all."

Pang grinned. "Do it. You're too skinny."

Wave stole a piece of Pang's pork, ignoring Pang's protests.

Later that day, all the Gifted students were hanging out in the classroom. For the first time, Wave and Pang walked in together. Claire stared at the two as they made their way into the classroom, raising her eyebrows as Wave sat down.

"Pang, I heard you were late this morning. Weird, so was Wave." Claire commented.

"I wouldn't have been as late if he had woken me up," Pang shot back.

Claire laughed. "You guys are so obvious."

Punn shook his head at Claire's comment. "Are you guys seriously a thing?" he asked.

Pang looked at Wave for any sort of sign. Wave raised his eyebrow and smirked, as if telling Pang, it's your call.

Pang took a deep breath. "Yes, actually. We've been dating for two months."

Ohm was the first one to respond. "Two months? I thought for sure it was longer!"

"Dude, you already knew," Pang said.

Korn shook his head. "No offense, but you guys weren't subtle at all."

Mon nodded. "We were betting on how long it would take you to get together."

Pang's mouth fell open in shock. "Seriously? What the heck guys!"

Wave tried to contain his laughter, but he couldn't help but snicker at Pang's reaction. The rest of the Gifted students stood up and pulled out a hundred baht each. They all handed it to Namtarn, who smiled sweetly at Pang. "Sorry, Pang."

Pang turned to Wave. "Can you believe this?"

Wave shook his head. "You said earlier that we weren't subtle, babe. I'm not surprised."

Claire groaned. "Are they going to start flirting in front of us now?"

Ohm scoffed. "Oh please, as if we aren't used to it with you and Punn."

Punn blushed. "This isn't about us."

Pang sat on Wave's desk with a huff. Wave grabbed Pang's hand and smiled up at him. "I'm glad everything turned out okay," he said.

Pang nodded. "Me too. I don't know why I ever thought our friends would disapprove."

"Your friends, you mean" Wave replied.

Pang rolled his eyes. "Whatever you say, baby."
