Work Text:
"So."
" So."
God above Hermes Costello was a work of fucking art.
The date couldn't have gone better. Dinner was excellent, they didn't stumble in their conversation. Hermes was beautiful. They went sightseeing, Jolyne bought them dessert, Hermes was beautiful, they made it down to a lake in the middle of town where they walked and talked as the sun dipped below the horizon.
And Hermes was beautiful the entire time.
Jolyne tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear, the wind biting at her exposed legs. Hermes was right in front of her, standing under the streetlight of the lakeside promenade. They were close, oh so close, Hermes chest barely covered by that leather jacket that made her feel things-
A scuttling beside them made them jump.
" What the- "
A rat. A massive fucking rat. Crawled out of the bushes just inches from Jolyne's foot, scuttled across the concrete, and vanished into the grass by the riverbank.
A second one followed after it.
More following after that.
"What the fuck." Jolyne hissed, grabbing Hermes' hand, gluing herself to the woman's side. "Hermes what the fuck."
"Oh uh. I forgot to tell you. The rats are. Kinda everywhere here."
As hot as Hermes is, Jolyne wanted to smack her every once and a while.
Jolyne grumbled, turning on her flashlight to brighten the dark stretches of path between streetlights.
Only to see a sea of the little fuckers.
"Hermes."
Hermes' voice wavered. At least she knew when she kinda fucked up. "Yes?"
"We're going home."
Jolyne was pretty sure she was already calling an Uber. Squeezing her girlfriends (??) hand, she leaned in a little closer. "...Are we just. Supposed to wade through them?"
Hermes shrugged. "There's an intersection a bit forward, we can catch the Lyft from there."
"...Wanna just go for it?"
"Jolyne what-"
She was already moving.
The rats parted before her like she was Moses. Hermes wasn't a step behind her for long, shoulder to shoulder with her as she lead the way.
“Come on fuckers! Do you even know who I am!” Jolyne grumbled, trying not to kick the shimmering little balls of hair out of her way.
She didn’t even notice Hermes holding her hand as they hiked up the small hill to the road.
It also took her a while to notice Hermes’ eyes on her as she fiddled with her phone, trying to call them a Lyft back to campus.
“...What?”
Hermes giggled. “You’re cute.”
Jolyne blinked. “Uh. Thanks?”
“Can I kiss you?”
“...Yes.”
And they did.
Surrounded by rats, standing under the only working streetlight for maybe a mile and a half. Hermes kissed her.
And Jolyne kissed back.
They would have kept going too- If it hadn’t been for the chime of Jolyne’s phone.
Headlights pulled to the edge of the street, a beacon of sadness to the two girls kissing at the corner of Lakeshore Drive.
-----
"OK so. Are you like a pillow princess or some shit?"
Jolyne looked up from her homework, trying to wrap around what Foo has just said. "What?"
They shrugged, having another huge sip of soda. "I dunno. You just have the vibes of a bottom."
"What, are we oppressing them now or something?"
"I mean we absolutely could be."
Jolyne just grumbled, turning back to the half-finished equation before her. "Whatever."
"That's not an answer dude."
"Do I look like someone who fucks?" Jolyne snapped- this homework had her at her wits end- just like it did every fucking week.
The heavy silence was a relief for Jolyne.
Until it wasn't.
"...What?"
F.F. was staring at her.
"...Did you not know?"
They blinked, snapping themselves out of it as Jolyne's voice became a bit more strained. "Uh no. I didn't. Kinda surprised."
"I've been on one date with Hermes you houseplant."
"True. But even then you're a hunk!"
Jolyne had never heard of that word being used on a lesbian before but she could only assume it was good. "Uh. OK."
Maybe five minutes after she had returned to her work, F.F. interrupted her thoughts again.
"Yanno. You work really hard."
"...Yeah. I want to pass my fucking classes."
"No but like. You need to chill out."
And how the hell are you gonna do that? Booze? Weed? Good luck getting me off campus for the next two weeks when I got 4 exams on the horizon. "You don't say."
"...We need to get you some pussy bro."
-----
Yeah. Pussy wasn't gonna happen for a long, long time.
Jolyne could just feel it. The pining had gotten worse since they made out. They weren't an item. Not at all!
She was getting sick of looking at her ceiling.
Fear filled her, crushing her windpipe as she thought about… Hermes. Just. Everything about her.
She had it so bad. So. So bad.
Was it bad for her to have horny thoughts about someone she was like. Just about to date?
Or had gone on one date with?
Was it bad that she couldn't stop thinking about how Hermes looked at her that night? How the streetlights shined across her face, how her eyes softened when they looked at her?
Sure, maybe they were stalked by those massive fucking rats for the last half hour of their date, but that was their fault for going to the lake in the middle of town. Honestly they should have known better.
But Jolyne didn't regret a thing.
The brief kiss they shared at the front steps of the dorm building was more than enough for her.
Or was it even enough?
Jolyne wanted Hermes everywhere. All the time. Always an arms reach away when shit hit the fan.
But staring at the ceiling of her dorm at midnight brought out the more pervasive thoughts. The idea of Hermes on her, running hands across her chest. Hermes kissing up her neck. Jolyne getter her lips all over Hermes'-
No. She couldn't do that. She had to stop it! She couldn't jack off to someone she was slowly becoming close too! It was OK when their relationship was impossible but now that it's tangible it felt… Wrong.
Having thoughts about sending Hermes photos of her tits were becoming way too common and Jolyne really wished that wasn't the case.
Fuck she really hoped Foo was like. Wrong. For the amount of times she thought about getting railed by Hermes it felt like she was probably a bottom…
But the image of Hermes under her, braids fanned out on the pillow, lipstick marks coating her face as she gave Jolyne her trademark grin? That image was potent enough to assure her she was a verse.
She had to catch herself, hand creeping far too close to her thigh. Squeezing her legs together wasn't helping much of anything, especially when she wanted someone else to be between them.
Maybe it would have been easier to just see if she wanted to be sex friends with me…
