Golden Scales And Green Hair

Summary:

Izuku Midoriya loved dragons especially the legendary All Might! A dragon who saved many people's lives in great long wars. He loved to watch how they behaved and acted, along with keeping notes on them. He borrowed old books with the most dragon knowledge possible. Reading almost all night to know as much as he could. The most in field knowledge he had on dragons were the smaller, less hostile ones, since his mother worried about him all the time. Telling him he shouldn't go out into dangerous places like that, Izuku knew they were dangerous no matter the size, but he felt-no. He knew, dragons were more than just another mindless animal functioning on just instinct alone to survive.

After all, if it wasn't so, he wouldn't be able to explain why he had been kidnapped and stuffed into a metal cage, by none other than a pale ashy colored scaled dragon with intense crimson eyes and a quite explosive personality to boot.

But there's something familiar about him, he just couldn't put his finger on it.

Chapter Text

He had been wandering the forest in the early morning, hearing small birds and critters chirping and skittering about. He sat across a large river bank, his back leaned onto a tree deeply covered in think moss and other small ground plants. Small fish could be seen leaping out of the water of the lake. He watched as the water rippled from a light green webbed tail that breached the water near the fish, shuffling with the saddle bag hung on his shoulder, he pulled out one of his note taking books along with a quill, the cover of the book spelling out-

-Dragon Analysis For the Future Volume 13-

Izuku took out a bottle of ink he recently bought from the market in the near town this morning. He dipped the quill tainting the tip of it with the black inky substance. He looked back at the water just in time to see a fish leap high into the air only to be brought back down in a swift motion by a long sticky tongue and back into the darkness of the lake. Similar to that of a frog or chameleon. Izuku stared in awe, eyes glossed over with a shine and a smile sprouting on his freckled face.

"Whoa! I never knew she could do that" he praised. Smiling, he wrote down notes on his new discovery of the water dragon. If Izuku didn't know any better he would have wanted to measure just how far it could stretch to reach food. But he didn't want to bother the frog-like dragon.

Engrossed in his note taking and slight mumbling he didn't notice that said dragon was making its way towards him with sticky webbed feet patting down the grassy floor and leaving a small wet trail of water from the river.

When they made their way towards him and stopped only an inch or two away the boy still didn't notice the dragon in front of him. Mumbling something along the lines of “having a tongue like that would definitely have an advantage to capture food on and off land” That was until of course the dragon leaned over Izuku to see what it was Izuku was mumbling about, his face almost pressed in between the pages. A small water droplet found its way onto a page that was blank of any writing.

Izuku look up from his book to see the small webby dragon no taller than a great dane. The dragon returned the look with the tilt of her head, as water dripped off her smooth fish like scales.

"O-oh? What is it?" Izuku stuttered locking eyes with the dragon, feeling a bit lightheaded at how close she was, it was the closest he'd come to the water dragon since the eight times he had visited, and now that he had a more close up look he could see the scales on her body shined with glossiness. Probably a type of mucus her species secreted to help her skimm through the water without too much friction to drag them. And the thick flat tail would act as a paddle to increase swimming speed.

He pushed that thought away for later to write down. She nugged the cover of the book with her smooth round snout.

He looked down to the notebook.

"Huh? The book?" Midoriya asked dumbly. The dragon nugged the book again as a conformation. Izuku put down the quill in his hand on the grass and turned the book so the dragon could see what was on the pages. Information on her species alongside a few concept drawings. The new one being on the new discovery of the stretchy tongue.

Izuku watched the dragons face as she looked over everything. Izuku couldn't help but think those intelligent eyes of her’s was actually reading and understood everything on the page.

"What do you think? I-is it ok?" He asked shyly. Mentally smacking his head because how would she answer since dragons couldn't talk. At least not that he knew of yet.

The dragon look back up to Izuku and for a moment Izuku thought he saw her give him a small smile. She turned around making a small guttural huff of air through her snout as she walked a few paces away. Then turned around to look back at Izuku who had a confused look plastered on his face.

Suddenly the dragon sprinted at Izuku at full speed. Izuku's eyes widened like saucers believing he messed up and did something wrong and was going to die a gruesome death, and yelped when the dragon stopped just inches away, jumping up above him and gripping the tree bark with her small claws and webbed feet, nearly smacking Izuku with her thick tail as it collided with the bark of the tree beside his head instead. She climbed the tree with ease until she reached a branch that could sustain her weight and walked across it as her tail wrapped around the branch to keep steady.

The dragon glanced at him for a second.

Izuku, baffled watched with wide eyes as the dragon then leapt to a much larger tree and disappearing in the leafy green of the branches.

Izuku reached down quickly picking up the quill and jotted down some interesting new facts, that her tail was prehensile, and that the pads of her feet must be similar to that of a tree frog or gecko to be able to climb up the tree so easily and swiftly.

Confident about his new major discoveries today, he packed up his notebook, ink bottle, and quill cleaning the tip first before he put it away in his bag. Izuku stood up and stretched. He patted his bag, reassuring himself that it was secured, and then began his treak home.

“Wow I can’t believe she was capable of those things. I mean every dragon of course had its special abilities and stuff but it still comes as a shock when I find out” he mutters softly.

Izuku remembered the first time he ever met a dragon.

Izuku was quite young at the time around five or six. He was playing outside as his mother talked to some close friend of hers he hadn't seen since that very day. And Izuku like the innocent child he was, had wandered off into the forest while his mother wasn't watching.

Izuku was amazed at the huge trees and growing life of plants around him. Soon he reached a clearing of a meadow, the grass taller than himself. As he walked through, he watched as the insects flew or jumped around him. Izuku was trying to catch a grasshopper when he heard a whine hidden in the tall grass.

Confused but curious, he looked around only to be met with nothing but more tall grass. Then a cry was heard. Izuku followed the source and when he finally found what it was his eyes widened.

It was a dragon about the size of a golden retriever. And speaking of gold.

The scales shined a beautiful gold color like the coins that his mother used to buy things. The dragons horns were small, short and had a rounded end like a nub, the small spikes on the head were small and not fully developed reaching from the top of its head to the tip of its tail, It's belly was a tinted cream color, its forearms and hind legs also had similar spikes growing on its side, and had small black claws.

But the one thing that burned its way into his memory of the dragon was the intense glare of its crimson ruby eyes when it noticed Izuku. Izuku looked at the wings only to gasp at the sight. The dragon was bleeding from a few tears in its wing membrane on the right wing.

The dragon growled from its throat, though it wasn't a very scary noise unfortunately to the small dragon, bearing its teeth the dragon held its head high standing its ground trying to intimidate Izuku.

Izuku noticed the crisp burnt smell of something burning. Looking for the cause he saw patches of burnt, charred grass that was surrounded by the dragons feet and some spots still smoked a bit. Izuku had wondered if the dragon got into some sort of fight.

"Shhh it's ok, I'm not going to hurt you" Izuku said softly to the distressed dragon. He offered over his hand to the dragon, like you'd do with a dog when you first meet one.

It tensed at Izuku's gesture. Then started looking around unsure of what to do, maybe to find an escape. But when it looked back, Izuku had placed his hand on the dragon's snout. The dragon froze staring at his small hand.

But when Izuku started to rub it slightly with his small fingers in a gentle way, the dragon glared and snapped its head back, sprinted forward at Izuku, purposely headbudding him and throwing him to the ground with a thud.

Izuku moaned painfully throwing both hands to his forehead rubbing were the dragon had hit him. Tears pricking his eyes at the pain.

“Oww”

Izuku opened his eyes to see the dragon towering over him baring his teeth with a small growl and pinning his arms. The small claws of the dragon painfully digging into his skin through his clothed arms. Izuku could feel the heat emanating from the pads of its paws. He looked down to the dragon's claws where it was gripping his clothes and he could see smoke starting to rise from its grip on him. Probably burning his clothes.

Scared, Izuku felt his tears fall down his face a whimper escaping his lips. When he started to cry the dragons painful grip on his arms and the growling lessens, and it glared at him. But instead of being bitten or hurt more as Izuku thought would happen the dragon instead jumped off Izuku with a huff from its nostrils letting out some smoke in the process.

Confused Izuku sat up, watching the creature. It started walking away from him, pushing through the thick grass and disappearing into it. The last thing he saw was the dragon's slim tail disappearing into the grass.

"Huh" Izuku thought. "Now that I think about it I wonder how I survived that" Izuku let out a sigh of relief. It did look like a young dragon at that too so it must not have been interested in him.

He's glad for it though, since that's when his love for dragons grew.

When he finally reached his house, he walked up the steps, opening the door hearing a familiar small creak from the old wood he became accustomed to over time.

"Mom, I'm home" Izuku called. Shrugging off his bag to place it on a hook by the door and pulling out the notebook from earlier and the quill and ink.

"Oh Izuku!" his mother called from the dining room. Rushing at him and enveloping him in a tight hug and he almost dropped the items he held from the sudden force. Tears falling down her round face and soaking Izuku clothes. Her distressed voice reaching his ears.

"Mom, what's wrong?" He asked worriedly hugging her back as best he could with the things he held to comfort her.

"Oh I was terrified Zuku, I thought you got hurt" she sobbed. Izuku still unsure of what she meant asked what had happened.

"A group of Were’s appeared earlier in the public market in the town were you went to go and get your supplies and they killed and hurt a lot of people. I thought that you got stuck in that mess too. I'm so glad your ok Izuku" she finished giving him a squeeze. More tears following suit.

Were’s? It must have happened around the time he had just left. Were’s were very easily aggressive creatures, similar to that of a wolf except they stood upright and walked on two legs and ran on all four. They usually hunted in a group of three or occasionally four. What were Were’s doing so close to the public market in the middle of town? They would usually avoid humans and stayed in the cover of the forest near their territory. Something must have happened that they went to a town like that. Could something have forced them to run into a crowded place like that?

Whatever the case was he was completely fine and went to reassure his distraught mother.

"Mom it's ok, I'm fine. I wasn't even there when it happened I must have already left when it did" he said softly.

Inko let Izuku go to wipe the stray tears off her face with the back of her hand. She looked over Izuku who gave her a small smile. She sighed in relief when she found him clear of any scrapes or bruises. Only the wet stain on his clothes from her earlier tears, which she apologized for, Izuku reassured her it was fine.

It was around the late afternoon when Inko came to Izuku's room were he was going through a book about Werewolves and their behaviour, contemplating over the things he read and the information given to him from his mother, to figure out what might have caused the attack in town. Izuku lifted his head to his door when he heard a small knock.

"Come in" Izuku said watching as his mother came into his room. He placed the book down beside him and gave his attention to his beloved mother.

"I was going to make dinner when I realized I was missing some ingredients" She said looking down and fidgeting with her hands. She hesitated with her next words. Izuku knew what she wanted to say and said it for her.

"So you want me to go into town to get the rest of the ingredients were missing right?"

"Yes but, what if..." she trailed off. Izuku stood up grabbing the book to show her a page filled with information and drawings about Werewolves.

"Don't worry mom it says here that Were’s relatively leave an area to go back to their dens after an attack or hunt" "And it's been a while since that attack in town this morning, I'm sure it's safe" Izuku said, pointing to the paragraph that explained this. Inko sighed. And gave a small nod. But Izuku new she wasn't completely convinced.

"Don't worry mom, I'll be ok. If i take the sword will you feel a little better?" Izuku said gesturing to the silver sword that lay on his desk.

After a bit of silence she made up her mind and nodded her head.

Izuku trotted down the staircase to the ground floor his sword that was strapped to his waist belt bouncing lightly on his leg. He also had a notebook in hand along with the ink and quill. He grabbed his red sneakers slipping them on with ease. He placed the items in his bag before grabbing it, lifting it off the hook, and placing it over his shoulder.

Inko came from the kitchen with a small little brown pouch and a small paper with the items needed scribbled on it. Izuku gratefully took the note and small pouch of coins in his hand, weighing it. That was quite a lot for how little she needed. He looked at his mother with a questioning look.

“I put a few more coins in there for you so you can get something for yourself” she confirmed.

Izuku made an inaudible ‘oh’ as he understood now why it weighed a bit more than usual. He tied the gold filled pouch to his side next to his sword. He gave her a nod turning to the door. Before he could even place his hand on the door knob he was stopped in his tracks by his mother's voice.

“Oh! Wait Izuku” he turned his head as he watched his mother disappear from his side to the kitchen. She came back with a black cloaked hood and an apple.

“It's starting to get cold out I don't want you to catch a cold” she said wrapping his form with the cloak and placing the hood over his messy green hair, tying it up. She placed the apple in his bag with his notebook. “Also in case you get hungry” she closed the bag.

Izuku gave a nod and thanks to his mom finally heading out the door and giving her a wave as he walked.

“Be back soon! Bye mom, love you!” he called as he walked down the dirt path that led to the town. She waved back, a worried expression placed on her face. “Love you too! You better come back safe!”

Izuku smiled and gave her a thumbs up.

Walking down the path to the town Izuku admired the sky as it turned from a light blue to brilliant oranges and pinks with dashes of dark blue as the sun was beginning to set. It would most likely be dark by the time Izuku got the items from the shop and returned home.

As Izuku walked down the path he gripped the cloak closer to his body. Well mom wasn't wrong. Izuku thought gratefully as he could see a puff of air formed as he breathed out. Izuku looked around taking note of the plants around him, and noting any of the small dragons that ate the plants, berries or seeds. When he looked at a patch of some flowers a bit closer he noticed a very small creature fluttering in the corner of his eye. When he looked he found that it was one of the smallest dragon species.

Izuku gasps and slowly crouched over to it. It was busy drinking nectar from a dark pink Bee Balm flower. As Izuku got really close he analyzed the shape of the wings they were oval, long and more insect like along with two pairs of antennas. The tiny scales on it where brilliant shades of pinks, purples and oranges with a light blue almost white stomach.

In conclusion it was a “Dragonfly” they come in many colors and patterns and never bred true.

When the Dragonfly finished up its flower it finally notices Izuku's prying eyes. It jumped slightly in surprise but didn't fly away. Instead it looked back at Izuku with its own curious eyes.

Izuku raised a hand slowly to touch the Dragonfly and unsurprisingly it climbed on Izuku flingers without a hint of fear. It was very small, about the size of his palm if stretched out. Dragonflies were very docile so it wasn't unusual for them to trust humans. They had few to no predators so it was probably why they were so docile or they were used to humans at this point, wild or not. In fact this type of dragon is very popular as a pet type. And used as ornamental dragons.

Or in other words, show dragons. They also don't breath fire, have a poisonous bite or spit acid. Very hardy and adaptive, there pretty common as a beginner's dragon if you wanted to breed and hatch dragons as a profession. They are one of the good starter types.

And surprisingly enough these guys are easy to train and are pretty smart.

Izuku always wanted one but his mother was too afraid of the little (and big) creatures so he decided to not give his poor mother a heart attack an refrained from ever getting one.

The little dragon curled its tail around Izuku's pointer finger and made some cute chirping noises. Izuku petted the dragons head softly.

“Hi little guy, er girl?” Izuku questioned. It was kinda young so it was hard to tell if it was male or female. Males had an extra dual claw on their hind legs that curled upwards when they fully mature like a rooster's spurs. Females had this dual claw too but they were small and fairly straight. Currently though the claw was small and nub like.

So it would be a couple of months till it matured to find out. Izuku smiled and placed his hand down to another Bee Balm flower and tilted his hand until the Dragonfly slipped off his hand and onto the flower. It looked back at him as he gave a goodbye wave and started walking away.

Izuku hummed happily.

I wonder if I'll see Uraraka and Iida tomorrow, haven't seen them in a while.

Izuku thought for a moment before he felt a weight on his head. Confused Izuku stopped walking and lifted his hand to reach on the top of his hood. He felt something grip his hand and he instinctively yanked it back in surprise, and heard a distressed squeak from his hand.

It was the Dragonfly.

“Wha-” it was wrapped around his finger tightly in an almost death like grip. If it was bigger Izuku was sure I would be cutting off the circulation in his finger. It was shaking and it looked startled.

“Oh sorry! I didn't know it was you that grabbed me. You kinda scared me a little. It's not everyday that something grabs your hand out of nowhere”

The dragon let go of Izuku’s pointer finger to jump on his shoulder. Did it want to follow him around?

“Hey uh, I can't keep you little guy so...” Izuku grabbed the dragon and placed it gently on an old moss covered tree log that was next to him.

“Just stay here ok?”

It sat there compliantly staring at Izuku's green orbs with its own baby blue ones.

Izuku nodded and started walking again. He couldn't keep it. Not that he didn't want or know how to take care of one, just. He didn’t want to frighten his mother as she was already probably still stressed from this morning. Bringing back a pet is probably not the best choice.

Izuku took a peak behind him to see it was still sitting there. Watching his retreating form.

Hopefully it won't follow me

Looking forward once again on the dirt road, and hoping he would lose it before It decided to get up. Izuku was snapped out of his thoughts when a weight was felt on his shoulder. Looking to his shoulder Izuku caught blue orbs staring back at him.

Izuku sighed.

He knew that Dragonflies could easily attach to people but he didn't know they were that clingy.

Or maybe it was just curious.

With another sigh Izuku makes up his mind. Not that he thought he had a choice anyway.

He gave in.

“Alright, I'll let you come along”

It gave some pleased chirps and tried settling down on his shoulder. Izuku noticed it was slipping on the cloak so he grabbed the dragon and placed it in the crook of his neck under the hood. It gave some more happy chirps. And snuggled up into his neck collecting Izuku’s warmth.

Izuku smiled.

Not long after Izuku could see the entrance of the town. Picking up his pace he was greeted with the welcoming sign. Izuku tucked the cloak closer to himself so it hid the small pinky dragon underneath it. Taking a left on the gravelly road, Izuku went into one of the familiar shops.

The bell above the door jingles announcing his entry.

Izuku opened his bag and pulled out the folded piece of paper his mother gave him. Looking over it he gathered the needed items and ingredients in the store.

Some spices, herbs. By the ingredients on the list it was clear what it his mother was going to make. Izuku’s favorite.

Katsudon

After grabbing one of the last things, Izuku headed to the counter. Placing the items down he looked at the cashier.

“Midoriya” He gave a nod, looking over the items.

“Hey Shinsou” The purple haired boy looked back up to Izuku with a tired expression.

“fifteen gold” Shinsou said. Izuku grabbed the pouch with the coins and pulled out twenty. Shinsou gave him a confused but amused look.

“Keep the change”

“You sure?” Shinsou asked.

Izuku nodded. “Don’t worry about it”

“Alright then” Shinsou said watching curiously as Izuku tucked the items into his bag.

“What's with that dragon under your hood?”

Izuku stopped midway from placing the last item into his bag and looked up to face Shinsou. What? How did…?

“What?” Izuku said blanky.

Shinsou seamed stiff for a moment like he had made a mistake.

“I mean- the dragon that you have?” How did Shinsou know he had it if he couldn't see it? Maybe it poked his head out at some point and Izuku didn't notice. Well there was no harm done.

Izuku moved over his hood to show the pink Dragonfly.

Shinsou visibly seamed to relax.

“Oh well, I found them earlier and then I couldn't get them to stop following me” Izuku chuckled nervously.

“I just don't know what to say to mom when i get home”

The Dragonfly hopped off Izuku’s shoulder and onto the counter. Shinsou’s eyes widened when the dragon came up to him and started rubbing his arm, in an almost cat like way, and gave happy chirps.

He seemed a bit nervous when the Dragonfly started rubbing over him.

“Heh uh, does she have a name?” Shinsou asked.

“A name?” Izuku never thought of that. Then again he didn't know he'd be keeping a dragon today. “I don’t know, I actually didn't think about it until you mentioned it” Izuku poundered for a moment.

“And also I'm not sure if it's male or female”

“It's a girl” Shinsou stated.

“How do you know?”

“Just, trust me. It's a girl”

Izuku nodded.

Maybe Shinsou had experience with Dragonflies. He didn't take him for a dragon keeper type but you never knew.

“Hmm, Maybe I'll think of something later”

Izuku watched the little dragon play around with Shinsou’s fingers “I'm not sure if i can keep it afterall. My mom is kind of afraid of dragons”

Shinsou nodded thoughtfully watching the dragon play with his fingers.

“How did you know I had her?” Izuku asked.

“Oh, well. I just, saw her poke out of your hood is all?” Shinsou said. It sounded more like a question than a statement. Izuku nodded. Guess he was right.

“Oh that's right!” Izuku exclaimed remembering about the incident this morning. “Earlier this morning there was an attack, do you know what happened?”

“Oh the werewolf attack this morning” Shinsou stated and looked back up to Izuku. “I was there when it happened,” his voice seemed more irritated then shocked or scared but if that was so, it quickly disappeared.

“Although I wouldn't say it was an attack, and more like a mistake on someone's part” He mumbled, almost spitefully.

“Um… I don't really know what had them come here, but it was probably some inexperienced hunters that were trying to hunt them and steered them in the wrong direction” Shinsou said as the dragon nipped his fingers.

Oh that's right, werewolf fur was exceptionally sought out for because of how thick and hardy the fur on their backs are. A good type of fur for winter clothing or just a warm blanket to snuggle with. At least that's what Izuku heard from others he never really got the chance to try it out since the fur went for quite a bit on the market trade.

“Well I've gotta get home, I'll see you later” Shinsou nodded and handed over the Dragonfly that was snuggling his fingers still and purring quite louder than before. When she opened her eyes to see Izuku she pounced on his arm, and scampered her way back to his neck to snuggle against.

Izuku smiled and gave a goodbye wave to Shinsou. As he stepped out of the store and back into the chilly air, the sun had set and the star's were peeking their way back into the sky like spots on a Dalmatian.

Izuku walked past some stores going deeper into the town, he noticed that there were large gash marks in the wooden frames of some stores, houses, and few trade carts that were still standing. The werewolves clearly left a mark.

Not very far from where he stood was the beginning of the public trade market. The place he was just at this morning.

Stopping to look on Izuku watched as very few people seemed to still be walking around despite the lack of light and cold air. Izuku hesitantly walked forward.

Looking around the destroyed trade market, granted it seemed to be cleaned up as expected but there were a few things here and there that seemed to still be in place. Izuku’s evergreen orbs wandered around. Sheets were tattered and ripped to shreds, fabric decorated all over the concrete floor, and some wooden boxes that were probably holding fruits or vegetables seemed to have broken and splintered off. Not to mention the glass from a broken window shop.

Though from the inside it was covered with a blanket. Making it unable to see into the store.

The worst part was probably the smell as it suddenly assaulted Izuku’s nose. He felt as if he had been slapped with the foul smell itself, the smell was so strong it left a metallic taste in the air. Izuku cringed covering his nose with his hand. Izuku could see some spots with dried blood in some places on the ground even along the cracks in the pavement. The smell was overwhelming. Izuku couldn't imagine an animal with such an acute sense of smell to not notice this miles away.

There was a slight breeze picking up, swaying his cloak. Izuku quickly turned around walking away. He didn't want to stay any longer than he should. The smell of metallic copper was just getting too much for him. Izuku started walking away immediately.

It was already really dark out too, the temperature probably would drop some more, and Dragonflies also had low body temperatures as it was. They were more on the cold-blooded side and needed a source that could produce heat. They would seek out warm plants, nests or hotspots to keep warm on chilly nights. Thankfully Izuku could keep the dragon warm until he would get home.

He walked aimlessly lost in thought. By the way the claw marks in the marketplace had looked earlier, seemed to indicate that they might have been passing by or running from whatever it was that had pushed them, then when they found themselves in the marketplace so full of people they might have been overwhelmed and just attacked.

At least that was his theory.

Suddenly an explosion went off in the distance and a roar not long after. Izuku abruptly stopped in his tracks, to see smoke making its way into the starry sky.

“Wha- what was that?” could it have been a dragon? Or a Werewolf attack again? No It couldn't be a werewolf they can't do that. It wasn't very far from the town Izuku just came from. Izuku wasn't sure what to do. If it was another Were attack he should go back and warn the town. Then again if it was a rampaging dragon he would have to leave that up to the Pro Hunters.

What should he do? Would the Pros even still be nearby? Or would they have moved on?

Izuku heard a snap of a tree branch. Opposite of where the explosion came from. Quickly, Izuku turned around to face nothing but the darkness of the forest. Izuku hovered his hand over his sword.

Waiting.

Izuku trembled slightly in anticipation. His heart beating inside his ribcage.

Without warning a large creature on four of its limbs ran at Izuku with unexpected speed, it's claws going in for a strike at his head. Izuku reacted fast enough before the beast's claws met his head only to block the attack with his sword. But the sheer force of the monsters claws colliding with the sword sent Izuku tumbling back into the ground. His back hit hard against the ground and he grimaces at the pain.

The Werewolf towered over Izuku’s smaller form. It snarled at him, bearing its large canines, some saliva and blood dripping off the side if it's snout.

It's dark black fur swayed as it moved but Izuku took notice of the arrows that littered the werewolf’s body. It also had a few gashes on its body. No doubt due to other swords or weapons. Pro Hunters for sure. If so then this one was probably a survivor in the attack of the towns marketplace. But what really confused Izuku was the deep claw marks on its chest it was very recent. And bleeding. The fur around the claw marks looked burned off. It must be in pain, how is it still alive and moving? Sure werewolves had really tough hides and stamina, but this was just insane.

Izuku rolled over to the side before the Werewolf slammed its claws into the ground were his head would've been. He got up as quickly as he could stumbling in the process and ran into the forest brush.

There was no use hiding from it, it could track his scent easily. He couldn't bring it back to town after what happened and how would he know if any Hunters were still close by? And there's no question on trying to fight it, it was just too strong. Best option would be to run right? Maybe it would lose interest in him. It has to be hurting with those wounds.

Unless…

It was feral.

And if that's the case.

Would Izuku even survive? Izuku gulped at the thought, shaking his head violently.

“Gahh-” Izuku had to stop abruptly before he fell off a small cliff. Below was a type of plant Izuku wasn't very familiar with. But he didn't have the time to dwell on it at the moment. Izuku turned around once again pointing his sword towards the forest. He couldn't see the Werewolf but he knew it was there. Izuku stood his ground.

Wait a minute

Izuku's eyes widened, he looked under his cloak hood and on the other side.

Where was the Dragonfly?!

Izuku looked everywhere.

I didn't accidentally injure her when i fell did i? Did it escape? Did it leave and i never noticed? Would I find her again? Was she just hiding? What if-

Caught off guard Izuku saw a glimpse of black fur sprinting towards him. Izuku dodged as best he could from his distraught mind, but its claws snatched his cloak before he could react fast enough to pull it away, safely out of its reach. The attack the werewolf attempted caused it to lose its footing during the attack and miss stepped on the cliff, Izuku lost his footing too which didn't help either, and was yanked off the cliff with the werewolf.

They both tumbled down the side of the cliff. But Izuku’s cloak got caught by some tree roots, choking him at the sudden halt in momentum, but the tie snapped just as quickly, leaving him to fall the rest of the way down.

By the time Izuku’s body stopped, he was disoriented, covered in dirt, scraps, and probably some bruises for later.

He laid there for a moment, the unknown plant he saw from above gave a somewhat soft landing, but it smelled really spicy? Well it sure smells that way, and he was covered in it head to toe. Izuku got on his hands and knees trembling slightly. He clenched his fits only to notice his sword wasn't in his grasp. He looked up searching for the lost item.

Izuku saw a glimmer of light in the corner of his eye. It was the sword. But it was quite a bit away. On the other hand the Werewolf was not, and it was starting to get back up. It shook its head harshly and snarled at the ground.

Izuku hastily got on his feet dashing for his weapon before the werewolf decided it wanted another go at him. But it seemed Izuku’s quick movement grabbed its attention and it scrambled to get up as well. Getting it's footing back it began the chase again. And if it couldn't get anymore worse Izuku tripped clumsily. He fell to the ground, hissing in pain at the new scrapes he received. He turned around to see the werewolf practically on him at this point.

This was it.

It was as if time slowed down just to rub it in that he made a mistake that would end up being his very last. He watched as the werewolf once again raised its dagger claws to slash at him. He couldn't help but feel his eyes start to swell with tears that blurred his vision. Izuku squeezed his eyes shut gritting his teeth and clenched his fist as the werewolf's arm was brought back down onto him. Izuku prepared for the claws to sink into his flesh painfully but it never came.

He peeked an eye open slowly only to see the werewolf frozen in place his claws hovering only inches away from Izuku's smaller body. Izuku noticed how the Were’s ears were tilted up in alert and looking beyond where Izuku lay. What had distracted it? Izuku tilted his head back slowly to look at the dark forest beyond him. He didn't see much because of how dark it was. He took a glance at the Were and saw its ears twitching. It looked behind itself for a moment then back again.

Izuku didn't know what to do but he didn't want to make the mistake again of quickly getting up, in fear the werewolf may take interest in him once more. So he stood as still as he could and slowed his breathing to limit some noise. Maybe when the werewolf turned around again he could sneak away quietly and grab his sword. It was a bit risky If the werewolf turned around too soon but he couldn't just stay there until it felt whatever was there, lurking in the forest had passed.

So when the werewolf turned around again Izuku went to make his move but was halted by one of the loudest noises Izuku had ever heard.

He quickly snapped his hands up to clamp them around his ears, and turned his head around to where the source of it was coming from, and wouldn't you know. Izuku eyes widened like saucers when he saw the huge scaly reptile. It was one of the biggest dragons Izuku had seen in person. And he knew in just seconds of seeing it that it was one of the higher up, intelligent species. And usually they were the ones Izuku wanted to avoid because they were way more prone to getting aggressive and were extremely dangerous, it was better to let expert dragon trainers to deal with those.

So when this dragon started charging at him at breakneck speed, Izuku yelped and had almost little to no time to roll out of the way before one of the dragons massive front claws came crashing down on the spot where he once lay. After that Izuku sat up propping his arms to lift himself, looked up in time to see the dragon swipe its claws down on the startled werewolf and upon contact with its body a massive explosion emitted from its clawed hand, sending the werewolf flying into the cliff wall.

Jaw hanging open, Izuku froze then and there in both awe and shock as he saw the events that unfolded before him, he also noticed his sword near him. He picked it up, and put it back in its sheath. As the smoke and dust settled slightly Izuku saw the motionless body of the werewolf. It had no way of surviving an attack like that and he would have been extremely surprised if it did.

The dragon walked up to the corpse and picked it up In it's claws. It seemed to examine the werewolves singed and smoking body for a minute before giving a snort of huffed air from its nostrils as it blatantly drops it's limp body from its claws in a sort of gruff pout.

Disappointed.

It stared down at the Were before lifting it's head up, sniffing the air, and slowly turned its attention to Izuku.

Izuku swallowed the lump in his throat as nervousness and fear started to take hold of him now. It seemed to look at him as if it hadn't known he was there. It's blood red irises shaped into slits. He felt as if it was now glaring at him. It began to walk to him holding its head high in a form of intimidation. Izuku would be lying if he said he wasn't intimidated in the slightest. As the dragon grew near Izuku had never in his life ever wanted to run so badly, every cell in his body begged him to get up and run but his body was in no way listening to him, paralyzed in fear. And to be honest he was glad they didn't answer. Because he knew that running would only make it worse.

Izuku remembered in his Dragon 101 notebook, how to show submission or a way of showing the dragon that you mean no harm. So that you could be spared If you so happened to cross paths with one, so he lowered his head in a form of bow. Right, as stated in an old scroll about these bigger dragons was that they also loved hoarding things they liked, such as gold, shiny things, and furs in their dens. Sometimes it depended on the dragon's species or likes, but they would also hoard favorite flowers or foods.

Izuku felt the presence of the dragon loom over him, and felt a brush of warm smoky air fill his nose. It took a moment for him to realize what the dragon was doing. It was sniffing him? Why? Was it smelling him to see if he would be a good snack since the werewolf didn't seem to satisfy it? Was he going to be made dragon chow? Eaten by the very thing he admired?

Maybe the dragon had never seen a human and was curious about him? He tried his very best to stay calm but he couldn't help but quiver under the dragon's overwelming presence.

Then Izuku felt the dragon lean away from him. He slowly looked up, curious at the dragons leave. He stared into those burning crimson eyes of it and wondered what it was thinking.

He would soon know exactly what it wanted as he saw it lift it's forearm and headed straight for him. Startled Izuku scrambled backwards like a skittering crab on a sandy beach, thinking he would have the same explosive fate as the now very dead werewolf, but his scramble to get away was halted as his back came to a rock.

Ah the irony, being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The dragon now irritated from his haste to get away, thrusted his paw forth to Izuku's stilled form, quickly pinning him to the rock he came into contact with.

Now he truly was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Shutting his eyes closed tightly in fear that he would be injured, he waited uneasily. He felt the grip on the dragons hand tighten and its fingers closed around him, while pinning his arms to the side. Izuku felt as he was lifted off the ground and into the air, his legs dangling helplessly.

While lifting him up the dragon examined him quietly before pressing Izuku’s chest up to its snout, sniffing intently. Izuku leaned his head away the best he could but there was little he could do. The dragon sniffing him, unexpectedly started to make a low rumbling noise with a few stutters in between. Izuku’s brows scrunched up in confusion.

It was, Purring. Why was it purring? Suddenly the reptile started leaning away, and now on it's hind legs it began to spread its massive wings.

Izuku's heart dropped.

And before Izuku could protest they were already in the air. A shout left his mouth and he began squirming in the dragons grasp. Which of course irritated the dragon and it gave a growl to stop his struggling. Out of dread did he stop, in the thought of it eating him now.

Wind blew through his face and hair, making his green curls flail in the cold wind that sapped heat from his body. He had little hope he would be spared at this point. And the pointless thought made him slump his body. Even if he manages to get out of the dragons grip he must be hundreds of feet up from the ground.

First a werewolf now this? Why had his fate end up so terrible? Did the world really want to get rid of him so gruesomely?

Izuku sighs, the thought of his waiting mother brought him grief. She would be so worried about him especially after this morning. The last time he would most likely see her too.

Izuku's brain couldn't continue his train of thought as he felt his eyelids drooping, slowly falling unconscious at the lack of oxygen the air provided. And soon was enveloped in darkness.
