Work Text:

It is a cold winter night; in an outskirt of town, a bit further away from the city of Seoul; a small house located almost at the end of the road; there is a small light shined dimly from the inside.

A young couple who has just moved here a few years ago is very well-known among their neighbors as kind and goodhearted people. Nobody really knows anything about the couple besides that they had moved to the city from Busan. In this neighborhood, everybody adored both of them and they always take care of the young couple as much as they could, sharing them food and everything.

It is also the first snow fall of the year, it is very cold; the coldest night so far in this season. Jin is wrapped around in Jungkook embrace; they both are snuggling on a small armchair in front of their tiny firewood Jungkook has put up for both of them earlier. It is their favorite spot in the house; the armchair is big enough to fit two of them, and Jin has put up a lot soft pillows and blanket to accompany their body for more comfort and warmth.

Their house is very small but there is enough space for Jin to put a small shelf stacking all of his favorite books and Jungkook’s got his space to stand his guitar. Jungkook would play for Jin or they would sing together from time to time and the neighbors has never once complained about the noise, actually they are even more than happy to listen to the couple’s sweet melody.

 ***

Jungkook could guess that Jin is asleep right now judging from the way his breathing sounds and how still the older man is in his arm. Jungkook lifts Jin up as gently as he could, carrying him bridal style to the bed so that the latter could sleep comfortably. Jin’s back is very sensitive after all.

Jungkook then also gets onto the bed, pulls the duvet up for both of them and simply looking at the older’s sleeping face.

Jin’s sleeing face is very peaceful. It is endearing how his nose and mouth would curl up together from time to time; it is something Jungkook had pick up from every times he watched his lover sleeps. Jungkook brushs the hair that covered the older’s eyes away and his heart reminds him everyday how much he loves Jin, more than anything in this world; more than his own life.

Jungkook was never scared of death until he met Jin.

------------------

It was very cliché how they met and fall in love. No one knew about this, but Jungkook was from a rich and powerful family whose business was selling gold and jewelry in Busan. Jungkook wasn’t a happy child, in fact he had a lonely childhood.

His mother died after delivered him and his father obviously couldn't like his youngest son because he was the cause of his own mother’s death. He had 2 older brothers and a father; his family wasn’t that small but he had never felt more lonely than sitting at his dining table having family dinner.

Despite everything, Jungkook grew up to become a bright and positive young man,. tThanks to his grandparents who raised him. Because his own family weren’t fond of him that much, Jungkook spent time in his grandparent’s house more than his own.

When Jungkook’s grandparent died, he moved back to his father’s house. Jungkook was in and out of the town’s market very often because of his father’s stores. He was assigned to one of the store in the market; the one with the least customers because the location wasn’t very at the center of the market and it was almost towards the end of the high class area.

Jungkook wasn’t really helping much at the store, he was more of just there and watched everybody work. It was very boring for him, so he decided to take a walk to the other part of the market- the areas that none of the people from his class and above would set foot in. It was the commoner area – a place where only middle to low class people to even beggars and homeless people walked around.

Jungkook felt sick about all the divisions of social class in the society. His grandparents didn’t raise him to despise people based on their earnings like that.

It wasn’t exactly a new experience for him because while he was with his grandparents, sometimes he would tag along with the maids to come to the market and he would ask them to bring him to the commoner area because he wanted to see a street magic shows.

****

Now he was walking by himself in the commoner area and surprised at things because it didn’t change that much.

Except, there wasn’t any shows anymore. Because people here didn’t make enough money to help out those street performers.

There was another thing that caught Jungkook’s eyes. There wasn’t any magic show anymore but it was replaced by a small fruit store.

The owner was a tall young man, a bit taller than Jungkook probably. His skin was milky white and he had the softest angelic smile Jungkook had ever seen. And Jungkook could felt his heart would burst out every times the owner laugh so shyly while trying to cover his mouth. The man was very skinny despite having a very broad shoulder. Jungkook really wanted to just walk up to him and say Hi but he knew he didn’t have enough courage to approach this beautiful man. So Jungkook found himself coming here every day just to look at this beautiful owner. Jungkook had learned that his fingers were slightly crooked, and that it wasn’t only his face that was pretty. Jungkook knew that even his heart was kind and made out of pure gold.

And Jungkook knew that the latter didn’t make much money because he could see that there weren’t a lot of customers but Jungkook always saw the owners giving out his apples to the young homeless kids or beggars every times they came by. Jungkook heart swell for him. It seemed like the owner gave away free fruit more than selling it.

 *****

It was one time when Jungkook was sitting at the tea table, the place that he sat every day to watch the fruit owner. He was trying to settle himself down and thinking about what to order today because he really started feeling bored of the tea he drank everyday while watching this beautiful fruit seller across the shop. Jungkook was a bit startled as he heard a soft voice behind him saying

“Hey”

Jungkook looked up to find the tall angel in front of him. He looked even better and ethereal up close. Jungkook heart skipped a beat when the man appeared shy and stiff and Jungkook couldn’t help but notice a tinted redness spreaded out from his ears to his face. Jungkook then felt a sense of panic as he realized that the older must noticed his stupid stalking behavior

“!!!…. I’m sorry I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable from all the staring. I just have never seen anybody this beautiful and pretty. And I couldn’t help but keep coming here because I think you are a very nice and kind person and I wouldn’t want anything bad to ever happen to you. I hope that you don’t mind me-“

At this point Jungkook stopped himself, knew that he was screwed and couldn’t help the fact that his face was burning. Wow this is going so well

Jungkook wanted to curse himself at how nervous he was and how he lost control over himself like this. This was so embarrassing and this would definitely have scared away the beautiful owner. Jungkook was ready to accept the disgusted face from the owner while instead he looked up to see a gentle and kind smile from him

“It is okay. I just came to give you this….. It was very fresh and I think it would taste very well with the tea that you normally order” The angel handed him what appeared to be a small package of fresh strawberry

“and umm.. Thank you for the compliment…. That’s all!! I just wanted to give you those. Hope you enjoy it. Bye” The fruit owner quickly put the strawberry on Jungkook’s table and turned himself to walk away

“Hey, can you please tell me your name?”

“It’s… Jin.. Seokjin”

“Seokjin...... would you like to join me?”

Jungkook face was literally burning like hell fire this time and his ears was ringing. He was so nervous! he didn’t know why he was so nervous! This was unlike him at all.  Jeon Jungkook is not afraid of anything, even death itself.

“I…I’d like to but I need to watch over my store.” The owner was so shy, Jungkook could also see how nervous he was as well as his gaze wasn’t dare to meet with Jungkook’s.

Silence was filling the air.

“C-can we eat it in your store then?”

The owner’s face brighten up and he quickly nodded shyly “Yes”

********

Jungkook and Jin bonded from then on. Jungkook would visited Jin’s store every day from time to time. It was Jungkook’s most favorite part of the day and it was what Jin was looking forward to the most to in his day as well.

Jungkook learned that the shorter and grumpy guy who kept giving him deathly glare from Jin’s store every times Jungkook came to see Jin before they knew each other was Yoongi. He was Jin’s only best friend. They grew up together next to each other’s house. And Yoongi loved Jin very much, and very protective of Jin. He didn’t like Jungkook at first and was very cautious with him and Jungkook didn’t mind everything about it at all. He was actually glad that Jin had someone who was by his side and protect him like this. And Jungkook felt grateful to Yoongi. He was very relieved because he knew for sure that before he known Jin, Jin was safely protected by Yoongi and no one had ever done anything to hurt Jin with Yoongi by his side like this.

After some times, Yoongi and Jungkook got closer and they treated each other like another family as well, after they have known each other better.

****

“Jin-hyung, I bought this for you”

“Jungkook…. I can’t accept this! It is very valuable…”

“Hyung, I want to give you this. You are very valuable to me and I would give you the moon if you asked for it.”

“Thank you Jungkookie”

“Don’t mention it hyung.

I love you”

“I love you too”

****

Jin house was quite far away from the city’s market. He had to walk quite far to reach to the city main street. Jin lived alone with Yoongi’s next to his house. He helped Yoongi’s parents selling their fruits to the city. Jin was living alone but he had once never felt like he was alone in this world. Yoongi and his family always invited Jin over or Yoongi would always came by at Jin house and nag him all day about how kind he was to strangers and that he should be kind to himself first before anybody else.

Yoongi was very soft for Jin and very hard to other people; especially people who came and made trouble in Jin’s life. He was never scared to not lift any hand if it was necessary to those asshole and jealous bitches who always bullied Jin.

Jin on the other hand will be the one who cleaned and bandaged his wound after Yoongi’s fight.

“Yoongi, you didn’t have to do this for me. I told you I am fine”

“Jin c’mon those bastards were so bitter that they came to your farm and spoiled your fruit. They deserved more than a punch”

“Yes Yoongi they deserved it but you don’t”

“I don’t mind. It helps improve my skill”

“improve your skill? I didn’t know you wanted to become a professional fighter”

Jin knew that Yoongi never cared about any professional fighting or whatever. He knew that Yoongi always was good at fighting and that he did it because he wanted to appear stronger and scarier to other people for Jin, to protect Jin.

“I hate you” Yoongi mumbled with a pout. He didn't mean that.

“But I love you, Yoongi-chi” Jin beamed him a big smile and Yoongi heart ached for the second time.

--------------

It was a hot summer day, Jin was at home cooking and preparing food for Jungkook and Yoongi. It had been been a month now that Jungkook had come and lived with him.

Jungkook’s family was against the idea of Jungkook seeing Jin, let alone when Jungkook said that he will marry Jin and not his father’s business partner’s son. Jungkook’s father slapped Jungkook for the first time and Jungkook felt the bleeding at the corner of his lip.

Jungkook father didn’t want to see Jungkook face since the first time he had moved back from his grandparents house and that old guy just wanted to married him off and be done with it.

Jungkook might accept it in the past but now he won’t. Not now that he had found his sole happiness and reason to exist. He found Jin. He loved Jin and he lived for Jin. If his father wanted him to marry so he didn’t have to see Jungkook’s face then Jungkook will just walk away and cut ties with this family of his.

He knew that ran away from his home would be hard. But living without Jin would be millions time harder.

Jin opposed the idea of Jungkook cutting ties with his family because Jin didn't want Jungkook to live in a poor condition or making his life miserable just because of a worthless person like himself. Jin wanted the best for Jungkook even though that meant he wouldn’t be a part of it. But Jungkook made it very clear to Jin that he would rather die if he were to live without Jin.

***

Jungkook loved Jin so much he couldn’t explain it. Jin was… someone special to him. A very important person to him. After his grandparents died, Jin become the only person that Jungkook loved most in this world. Jungkook was nothing in this world, but with Jin by his side, he believed he could be anything. He could become anything, anyone for Jin.

Jungkook sacrificed his life and his fortune to be with Jin but how ironic it was that every day, Jungkook prayed to himself, telling Jin every day to never leave him. To never leave this pathetic boy alone. Jungkook would be helpless without Jin and Jin had no idea how much power he hold in his hand with Jungkook.

To Jin, Jungkook was someone who brought colors to his world. Jungkook taught Jin to live wild, to let things go once in a while, to let loose. Jungkook made Jin feel young and strong and that Jin could also be anything in this world. They complemented each other very well. One person who was very restricted, gentle and kind. While another person was young and wild and carefree.

Jin was scared at both of them. He knew for a fact that Jungkook can function every day, never back away from anything, and nothing could ever bring him down if he had Jin by his side but if Jin were to disappeared one day, Jungkook wouldn’t spare another minute breathing in this world. He scared because he didn’t anything bad to happen Jungkook while Jungkook just wanted to exist for Jin. Only Jin.

***

Jungkook never got scared like this in his entire life when he came home to Jin one day with blood spread all over his white torn shirt.

It was the same hot summer day. When Jin was cooking and preparing food waiting for Jungkook and Yoongi to come back from the market. He heard the door crashed open

“Are you perhaps Kim Seokjin?” Jin turned around and saw a tall young guy with pale skin and black hair behind him. Despite his handsome face, he looked…..very scary

“Yes…. And you are?”

“No one important. Because of you, I was no one important to Jungkook.... Where is he?” The pale guy looked at Jin with dark eyes then glanced up eye-ing around their house

“He is out.. at the market right now. Please leave the house”

“Of course he is. Because of you, he broke off his marriage with me! You know how heartbroken it is to have your childhood crush torn your heart like this?! You know how humiliating it is to learn that he left you because of a scum poor bitch like you are!!!!”

The guy was screaming and walking toward Jin. Jin was pushed to the corner of the kitchen, he was so scared and he prayed that Yoongi and Jungkook wouldn’t come back early because he didn’t want the two to get hurt.

“Ahhhh~ It must be your pretty face right? I admit it. You are pretty. Very beautiful, ethereal and breathtaking…. Let’s see if I scratched your face with this knife, will you still look pretty? Will Jungkook will fucking stay with you!!!!!”

The guy grabbed the knife and dashed toward Jin. Jin caught his hand and try to shake the man and the knife away. He successfully pushed the guy, fell to the ground. Jin got up and ran away to the door.

His heart was beating very fast, just a little bit more to the door. Just a little.

He then grabbed the door and pushed it open. He stumbled on Yoongi.

“Yoongi!! Run Yoongi!” Jin was literally stopped Yoongi at his foot before the younger could step any closer to the house while he heard a cracked voice behind him

“You fucking bitch!!!!!!!!”

The next second Jin was thrown to the floor and Yoongi wasn’t in his arm anymore. He saw the shocked and horrendous face on the tall pale man, his hand stained in red as he dropped the knife and his knee to the floor.

“YOONGI!!!”

Jin there saw his only best friend in this world bleeding, lying cold on the floor. His hand wrapped on top of the badly opened wound that cut deep in his abdominal

“OH MY GOD! Yoongi! Please!!”

Jungkook appeared at the scene and he looked like he had seen death, he rushed toward Jin checking his lover. “Jin!! Oh My God! Jin are you okay?!” Jungkook saw Jin in full blood shaking and trembling. Next to his side was Yoongi who was barely breathing.

Jin was a crying mess. A second later he had learned that Yoongi got stabbed on his stomach. He shifted his eyes and found his ex-fiancé, not even a fiancé, just a guy whom his father told him that he would be married with. Yugyeom.

Jin’s loud voice of crying and Yoongi’s difficulty in breathing made Jungkook skin crawled and he could feel his heat from his anger. He almost killed a man that day.

“Jungkook stop! Stop it! Pleasee”

Jungkook at this point was on top of Yugyeom beating the man who now couldn’t resist any longer and just take the beating.

“JUNGKOOK!!!! PLEASE! HELP ME!” Jungkook’s knuckles were bleeding but he didn’t care he just wanted to protect Jin and Yoongi but he couldn’t. Until he heard Jin’s screaming

He rushed over to Jin’s side who were holding Yoongi and stopping the bleeding but he knew that it didn’t do anything to help it.

“We need to get him to the doctor Jungkook-ah” Jungkook had never seen Jin crying like this and Jungkook’s world was breaking and crumbling inside his heart, it was very hard seeing the strong Yoongi lying still like this and it was even worse seeing Jin in this state

“Let’s go Jin, we’ll get him to the hospital!”

“g-..guys… don’t…bother…it… I-I won’t make it”

Jin was screaming once again, his crying becomes louder and he shush youngi from speaking anymore praying that the bleeding would also stop as well.

“Just let..me have … a peaceful.. final moment with my favorite person”

“Yoongi pleaseee.. Please don’t go Yoongi! Stay with me Yoongi”

“Jungkook… Promise me… You protect Jin…at all cost. Promise me…that you would never walk away from him even though he was wrong or at fault….Never walk away from him when he cries…. Be there to wipe it away and fight those bastards who make him cry..

Just look after him for me..ok?” Yoongi voice was cracking, barely making the words out but Yoongi was trying his best to voiced it out with the pain in his heart and stomach

“Yoongi Yoongi… you can’t do this to me… you stay here alright? I don’t need protection Yoongi! I need u I need u I need u I need u!!” Jin started chanting, a shaking mess! He couldn’t let Yoongi go like this. He couldn’t. He needed his best friend.

“J-Jin…..” Yoongi’s tears were slipping down, he gathered up all his strength to lifted his hand up to brush away Jin’s hair that were covering his eyes

Yoongi looked up to Jin, he swiped his hand across Jin's eyes wiping the tears away as his lip curled up to the corner of his lip

“I love you”  Yoongi gave him a big smile. It was Yoongi’s smile. The smile that Yoongi only gave to Jin. After his fight with those troublemakers who bothered Jin, after Jin nagged him for how stupid he was, after Jin cooked him his favorite dinner, after Jin told him about his days and what things made him excited or scared or angry from his day while they both were sitting on the grass in front of Jin’s farm looking at the sky. It was the only smile that the hard and cold Yoongi managed to let out and only give to his favorite person, Jin.

Jin could feel Yoongi’s heart stopped beating as his hands fell off from Jin’s hair. Jin let out his final scream and he couldn’t stop screaming and crying and his world turned black.

--------------------

Jungkook went back to find Yugyeom but he knew that there would be no justice or anything in this sick world that could justify to Yoongi. Yoongi was gone and that fucking bastard Yugyeom won’t be lock in the cell because god know how powerful his family was.

Jungkook threatened Yugyeom and the guy was scared shitless since the day Jungkook almost beat him to his death. Yugyeom didn’t dare say anything to his family and Jungkook made Yugyeom pay everything to Yoongi’s family.

Yoongi left Jin, his parents and his little sister behind and it was painful for Jungkook seeing the person he cares about going through that. Jungkook came home and told Yoongi’s sister everything about the money he forced out of Yugyeom. He knew that the family won’t ever accept it but he somehow convinced the sister to take it as they needed it to pay for their father’s medical bill, to moved him to a better hospital and to bought extra fertilizer for their farms. It couldn’t make up for what he had done to Yoongi, but it was enough to make Yoongi’s family to live in a better condition. And he knew Yoongi would want it that way.

****

Jin couldn’t eat or drink or even talk for months after Yoongi’s death.

Jin couldn't even get out of his bed in the first month. Jungkook was always there by Jin’s side every time the older guy needed something. He made sure that he would be there to help Jin coped up and went through this. His heart broke every time Jin started sobbing or crying his eyes out clutching to his chest. Then Jungkook would remembered the intensity of Jin’s grip on his arms or his shirt every times Jungkook pull Jin into his embrace to comfort his lover.

****

Jin got better as time passed. Jungkook once came home one day to the food laid out on the table. He knew Jin had made progress as the older guy had forced himself to get up and prepared Jungkook a dinner. As soon as Jungkook saw Jin, he quickly went and hug the latter immediately and Jin could feel that the younger guy was crying. Jungkook was scared all these time that he had lost Jin as soon as they had lost Yoongi.

****

It was one year after Yoongi’s death, Jin coped up with things better. He smiled more often and Jungkook was very content with that. Jungkook after leaving his family, and started living with Jin, used to sell fruit with Yoongi and Jin would stayed home. After Yoongi’s gone, Jungkook still helped the family sell fruit in Jin and Yoongi’s place. But later on, he had to quit it and find another job so he could provide money to the house better.

He saved enough money over the years and asked Jin to moved away from Busan.

“Jin-hyung, what do you think if we moved away from here?”

Jin looked at Jungkook shocked, this topic just had never came up between them before.

“Why so suddenly Jungkook-ah?”

“I just think it would be a better change for you. For us”

“Wherever you want to go in this world, I will happily move along with you, Jungkook-ah”

Jungkook didn’t understand why at that moment his heart ached and he could feel the tears blooming up in the corner of his eyes and started falling down.

-------------------------------

They moved into a small house in Seoul. The neighborhood wasn’t located at the center of the city; it was actually a bit on the outskirt of town. But the neighborhood was very lively and he thought that this would be good for Jin.

Jin stayed home while Jungkook worked at a studio as a photographer. Jungkook didn’t earn much but it was enough for two of them.

Jin would then always ask Jungkook to bring him to the market so he could buy some materials like clothing and tools to knit. He knitted a big sweater for Jungkook to wear outside when he goes to work; and a scarf for each of them. Jungkook one was blue, while his was red.

****

Later on, Jin started sewing and knitting other pieces as well, and he sold it at his house to his neighbors. It was doing well. He didn't make much but he always managed to sell everything. His neighbors would then praise at how nicely done his pieces were made and that the knitting or the sewing line was beautifully done.

Jungkook was very content at seeing Jin being happy and he suggested that Jin should make them more and not only for winter season but also for other seasons as well.

Jin was hesitating at first but he was very touched by how considerate Jungkook was for him. Jin accepted the idea and worked very hard; and just like what Jungkook had told him, it was doing very well. There were even some people from outside of their neighborhood who came to him and asked him to sew a clothes for him.

It turned out that they heard about jin from his neighbors who cannot stop talking and recommending about his neighbor’s store.

****

Over the years, Jungkook had managed to help Jin open up a proper tailor store in their little home. Jungkook was very proud at Jin and Jin was very grateful at Jungkook. He was very lucky to have Jungkook and Jungkook thought nothing but the same thing.

As Jin’s business was doing quite well. Jin encouraged the ideas of Jungkook to open his own photography studio as well. They saved up for another few months and then they started setting Jungkook’s studio up.

---------------------------------

Jungkook is waking up every day seeing Jin sleeping peacefully and looking so dreamy and he felt his heart warm every time. He loves Jin so much. He is thankful to God for allowing him to meet Jin. He is thankful to his grandparents who taught him to be humble and let him had come across Jin.

He couldn’t help himself at the sight of Jin’s sleeping face so he kisses the older on the nose and the forehead and on his cheeks… actually everywhere on the older’s guy face to wake him up.

“Good morning, sunshine”

“Kookie….. don’t you think it is a little bit cheesy for the morning?” Jungkook thought Jin’s half-awkae half-sleeping voice is the best sound in the universe

“There is nothing that is cheesy when it comes to you, hyung”

“Alright alright. Good morning, handsome”

They both beam at each other which then broke into a laughter while it is an auto reflex as Jungkook opens up his arms and moves to Jin while Jin automatically crawls around over to Jungkook’s side, curling himself as he wraps his arms around Jungkook’s chest. Jungkook’s chin rests over Jin’s head, he turns down to smell the strawberry and daisy scent from Jin’s soft hair and kiss his forehead. He thought to himself this is another good day

Notes:

My first one-shot! YAY anw, I am not familiar with 1980s era tbh but Never Let Me Go was my favorite song and I really wanted to write a story where JK was so in love with Jin and he was literally asking Jin everyday to never leave his side. And because of their age gap, I imagined their relationship to be like in the song. One person was carefree and wild, while another was a bit more conservative. So JK would be there to remind Jin to have fun in life and so on.

But seemed like the fic wasn't really about that haha (got carried away). But I'm happy with how it turned out. I really hope you enjoy this one.
