“Are you sure you want to do this?” Todoroki asks, his concern ringing clear in his normally monotone voice, and Izuku understands why he is so concerned, but they have had this conversation over and over for the past month.
Izuku laughs and grabs his boyfriend and pulls him down onto the frankly terrifyingly expensive couch to cuddle. “We’ve been over this Shouto, I can do this,” Midoriya assures the young Prince as he releases him from a bone-crushing hug.
Shouto frowns and opens his mouth to disagree, but Izuku interrupts him with a well-practiced argument. “I’ve already been through all the drill sessions with your PR people, Fuyumi already scarred me for life by showing me the coverage of the last 20 years of the media tearing your family down. I learned how to dance, and how to make polite conversation without tripping over myself Shouto, I think I have a good idea of what I am getting into.” This concern while endearing was creeping its way towards annoying.
Shouto turns his head into Izuku's Shoulder “You shouldn’t have to put up with it though.” He says so softly, the green haired man almost doesn't hear. Todoroki wraps his arms around him and clutches his boyfriend like a lifeline. Izuku’s heart breaks, he knows what Shouto meant. ‘I’m not worth it.’ A fierce righteous anger burns in his chest growing until he feels like he could combust. That Shouto, a man so caring, so righteous, so determined to do right by everyone, even at the expense of his own happiness, thinks himself unworthy breaks him. It makes him want to kill Enji Todoroki even more.
He cradles his boyfriends head and runs his fingers through Shouto’s soft hair and wishes he could hold him like this forever, just protect him from everything. “Shouto, I love you.” Todoroki pulls back and looks at Izuku, shock written plainly across his face. This wasn’t the first time Izuku had said it, but it seems to be hitting Shouto that it was true this time. “I spent weeks in classes learning how to be what you needed, how to stand beside you, how to endure what you do every day, and if coming out to your Father and standing up to his disapproval didn't scare me away, nothing ever will.” And damn his fragile emotions, he stands up pulling in a deep breath, but it doesn't help, he can’t hold back anymore, the floodgates opene and tears spill down his face. “I love you Shouto Todoroki and I Want to spend the rest of my life with you,” His voice wobbles unevenly, thready with emotion “Even if that life is hard, even if the media slanders me, and everyone hates me,” Izuku drops to his knees and grabs Shoutos hands in his own. “It will be worth it Shouto, It will be worth it because i get to be with you.”
Shouto who had been silent and stiff as a statue the whole time finally moves. Tears track down his face and he pulls Izuku into him, gripping him like he never wants to let go. Izuku is going to make sure he won’t. They sit that way for what feels like a long time until both Izuku and Shouto stop crying. Izuku pulls back and immediately misses shouto’s warmth. He wipes the tears from his face and pulls himself up and reaches a hand out to his boyfriend. “C’mon, we gotta go clean up before our 12 o’ clock with your PR team to hash out the details of the announcement.” Shoto looks at his hand for what couldn't have been more than a few seconds but felt like an eternity. Then he reaches out and takes Izuku’s hand.
