Summary
“Right, I thought so! And I also thought—well, one likes to be thoughtful about such occasions. Among friends. Close friends, even.” The words tumble forth in an increasingly tangled rush. “So I wondered what sort of… what she might… that is to say, what would make her—”
“Happy?” Lyney supplies gently.
Happy. Such a simple concept, yet when applied to Arlecchino, it becomes something precious and elusive—a rare flower that blooms only under the most particular conditions.
“Yes,” she admits, her voice smaller now. “I want to make her happy.”
Or
Arlecchino's birthday approaches. Furina is determined to make it a good one.

Summary
"Nice to see you again Miss Furina."
"You can drop the miss, just Furina. And I think it’s pretty hard to forget someone like you." Furina said casually, a slight blush on her face as she remembered the days they shared in school years ago.
"Wow Furina, that's quite bold of you." Navia teased. Furina suddenly looked back, her eyes burning with a sign to stop before she exploded and died right where she stood.
"Oh, right, um, I have to get back to the front, but you're in good hands Furina! The Knave here is the best and most experienced artist we have. I'm sure you'll have a lasting memory to leave with. It’s also on the house so don’t worry about payment." Navia says as she gives one more smile and a pat to Furina’s shoulder before she leaves the room.

Summary
"I apologize, love." His thumb traces across her cheekbone. She leans into the caress, seeking more of him. "I didn't mean to wake you."
The words take time to penetrate the haze of her awakening mind. Her consciousness is still finding its footing, too busy cataloguing the rumble of his voice, the way his presence seems to settle something restless in her chest that she didn’t even know needed quieting. When understanding eventually arrives, laughter follows—born of fondness, rather than mockery.
How is he so terrible at this?
"You liar," she huffs.
Or
Arlecchino clumsily awakens Furina early in the morning. Furina calls him out.

Summary
How does the story go, again? A human finds a selkie's skin, and compels her to become his wife. The selkie, bound by the magic of her pelt, has no choice but to obey, to leave behind the only world she's ever known and submit to a life of servitude on land.
But then, if that's all it takes… all she has to do is find one good human, one who won't misuse this power or mistreat her. Someone kind and understanding, who will respect her for who she is. A partner, not a captor.
Someone she can coexist with, someone who will show her the world she longs for. A guide, a friend—someone who will open the door to all the wonders and experiences she's been denied, who will help her navigate a new life above the waves.
Someone who will steal her away from the sea.
Or
Furina longs for a life above the water. Arlecchino might just be her ticket out.

Summary
Furina let out a soft, bitter laugh. “I feel so useless.”
“You’re not useless,” Arlecchino said firmly, walking over to gently place their daughter in her crib. She tucked the baby in with care, brushing a stray lock of bluish-white hair from Mika’s forehead before turning back to Furina. “You care so much it hurts, Furina. That’s more than a lot of children ever get.”
The words hung in the air, heavy with unspoken meaning. Furina’s lips parted as though to respond, but Arlecchino stepped closer and crouched before her, taking Furina’s hands in her own.
“Listen to me,” Arlecchino said, her crimson-pupiled eyes locking onto Furina’s. “You’ve had doubts about whether you can do this since the moment we knew she was coming. But if anyone was made to be a parent, it’s you. You have more love inside than you know what to do with—don’t think for a second you can’t give the same to Mika either.”
