Summary
Grief, James finds, is circular.
--
“Does it get better?” He whispered once he had cried himself out and the tears had dried tightly on his face.“Better?” She repeated, and there was something anguished in her voice, a new and old grief twisted up together. “No.” Effie said, and Sirius’s heart dropped, but she quickly continued. “Though, it gets easier. Eventually, you’ll wake up and it won’t be your first thought every morning. It won’t shock you every time you remember that he's gone. There’s nothing better about losing somebody you love that much, but time will take the sharpness, and get you used to his absence. You’ll live the good parts of your life. You’ll get married, and have a family if that’s what you want. Whatever you desire, you’ll build it. And you’ll miss him for the rest of your life Sirius, but one day you’ll wake up and realize you lived through it.”
“What if I don’t want to live through it?” Sirius asked, his voice small.
