Summary
The imperial guards find Kaedehara Kazuha on the bank of a river which was once connected to a location mentioned in the mythological canon. Their poetry raised the regimented ideology of a fledgling nation; his no more than some reeds that lived and died on the partially-finished script of a dream and a tree-thick river that was a green blue sensation. Kazuha, resting in the shade without numbers or time, knew they would come eventually for him. They could not abide poetry that grew rather than ticked.

The people's poet Kaedehara Kazuha is personally invited to the imperial court of alternate Inazuma by the god-emperor Raiden-Kuni-no-Mikoto and commissioned to compose an epic poem for him, the greatest official monogatari of a world that never was.

For a long time Jiaoqiu continued to remember the washed light, rinsed over several cycles as it was until only a fine sediment remained in each day. And—soaping the dishes after the lunch crowd, the beaten iron wok running with a pond of soapy water. In reality, the reflections would tour the complete circle a few times before coming to roost on the rim, over time forming a colony of faces beyond recall in a town on the back seat of nowhere, washed-up revolutionaries and postwar philosophers smoking at the mahjong table.

A story of the way Jiaoqiu goes to war, loses his home, dreams foolishly of a home planet never seen, and then moves back home to open a lakeside restaurant that also operates a bar service at night. And, confronted over and over by the voices of conflicting philosophies, finally manages to run far enough to catch up with his past again.
