Once the marines landed ashore, the base became a field of orders. Specks and dust billowed from their stomping around. Mihawk traced the current of sand. Too thick, and too neat to be natural. Then a captain, or vice-admiral, all the same to him, thanked and dismissed them.
"What will you do with your free time, Hawkeyes?"
"Not sure yet. I will miss the challenges to my title…"
Crocodile chuckled. Then turned around. He showed Mihawk his back, confidently, proudly. And climbed aboard their small marine-flagged ship. Sengoku's courtesy. Over his shoulder he said, "I'm sure you are capable of finding something to entertain youself with."
In which Mihawk passes the years studying one of his oldest acquaintances, Sir Crocodile.

Summary
Reclusive bachelor, Dracule Mihawk, is horrified when the property next-door sells and he’s suddenly faced with the revolting fact that he now has a neighbour. A very loud, cheerful neighbour who makes it his mission to become Mihawk’s friend (and maybe more). Mihawk refuses over and over and over again, until circumstance forces him to rely on Shanks, and time and close proximity makes him (reluctantly) re-evaluate his entire life and what (who) he wants in it.

It's a beautiful day on the Oro Jackson, perfect weather for an intense training session between Shanks and Rayleigh. It's a shame they're interrupted by an mighty swordsman fighting a Kraken for some compelling reason.
Or: how Shanks meets his idol, on whom he has absolutely no crush, makes a fool of himself, and decides he desperately wants him on his crew.
