Summary
Lan Wangji is on the way to someone he knows very well – an old friend, for whom he cares greatly. Someone he loves. Beneath him, the train groans, a beast he has conquered many times over. This he knows, and this he understands. The world vibrates delicately, a little out of focus, a little blurry, and he rumbles on forward to his destination.
There is not often very much that makes sense. Only the steady movement of the train, and the person he is going to see: Wei Wuxian.
Outside the window, the fast-running world is coming to a slow halt, the pastures and dark yellow ground becoming clearer and more intricate. He can more easily see dappled light through the trees, blades of grass in dried-out clumps, animals’ expressions, and a few words on the buildings he is moving past. This is the third best part about coming back into town after some time away.
The first is Wei Wuxian, with A-Yuan as a very close second.
Love is complicated. It has always been complicated, especially between the two of them.
