Summary
Hilda’s life was never the same once she moved to Trolburg. Though she tried to make the best of it, something was off, missing. No matter the effort, there was a slow decay eating at everything. Despite her trying, the river of fate constantly dashed her upon the rocks of upheaval around each unseen bend in her life. Something simmered there, below the surface, dark and sinister, clinging like a curse. One that was spreading. First her mum and the loss of her love, then her new dad and the wedge he was driving between them. Then Hilda turned eighteen. A day that should have been an exciting celebration, turned to horror as she learned the truth about the family duty that her mum was only too eager to share.
Fighting to regain her mother’s love and hells bent on breaking her horrid cycle of domination, Hilda now has to navigate a whole new world. One full of secrets, unforeseen consequences, self loathing, and loathsome creatures. One where she must come to terms with the revelation that her body is no longer entirely her own, that her friends are more complicated than she knew, and that some men are far more dangerous than she ever thought possible.
