Summary
Two months had already gone by, and he wasn't making much progress on Scottie's request. The prospect of opening up and trying to "feel empowered to take center stage in his life," as she had so poetically put it, is going to be a struggle the whole way... isn't it.
After spending so many years just trying to stay sane while the seconds ticked by in Virginia, he'd finally made it across the finish line. He'd gotten into college and had put several hundred miles between him and home. However, no one had deigned to inform him that the hard part was in front of him, not behind him. Now is his chance to really make a change and make his life into something he wanted to live.
But something so large and so vague as "changing your life" takes a lot of time, and reinventing yourself is a little difficult when you have to keep going back home to Virginia every few months.
