Summary
Ever since Penacony, Aventurine has had this nagging feeling that he's fated to be ever in the doctor's debt. Had he even thanked Ratio for his dutiful performance back there? For offering his faith and wisdom where Aventurine was certain they'd be parting ways forever? Had Aventurine succinctly expressed his thanks for the way Ratio had single-handedly offered to oversee his care in the months following?
If Aventurine can even begin to repay that selflessness, he suspects that this mission is an adequate place to start.
—
Investigating a piece of technology on a distant planet, Ratio is struck down by a curse that renders him empty, grieving, and yearning for a closeness only Aventurine can provide.
