Summary
George and Bertha have been estranged for eighteen months when George asks Bertha to accompany him on the inaugrual journey of his transcontinenal railroad. Mr. and Mrs. Russell to the world, but long since separated in their marriage, they are forced to spend four days and nights together on George's magnificent new train as they make the crossing from New York to Los Angeles.

Bertha Russell has devoted almost her entire life to one man: she and her husband George built a fortune of over a billion dollars and the powerhouse couple now owns one of the most luxurious penthouses on Manhattan’s “Billionaire Row.” Despite their success, Bertha is tired of spending so much of her life fixated on her family and navigating the shallow and petty New York society. When her husband makes a dire misstep in their marriage, Bertha impulse-purchases a multi-million dollar estate in a sleepy summer town in Canada, sight unseen, with plans to single-handedly turn it into a luxury inn. She escapes Manhattan, and her marriage, to start a new life.
