there’s a two-inch gash on yoonchae’s elbow. it looks worse than it feels, really, and isn’t even that deep. but blood seeps through the fabric of her long sleeve, and she swears the stain is cobalt, not crimson. maybe she’s concussed, maybe she’s just insane.
megan gives her a band-aid and, with the altoid tin she repurposed into a ‘fashion emergency’ kit, sews a star-shaped patch onto the ripped shirt. yoonchae knows megan would fix the buttons on her favorite pants too, wouldn’t even have to ask, but she also knows questions about why they are broken will surface, and then she’ll have to admit to the dizziness, the headaches, the blue. that’s another story for another time, she decides, and hopes it’ll be something else to laugh about.

yoonchae receives a poor grade on her midterm. her professor says he doesn't know where all her light has gone, and, admittedly, she doesn't know either. good thing she has friends to help her find it.---
