On the first day of acquainting the Black Eagles Dorothea finally meets the future emperor, Edelgard von Hresvelg. She hates her with every fibre of her being--never has she hated anyone so much before--for her family has enacted the class divide, has done nothing to assist the commoners, and knows nothing of suffering or starving and so forth. But she will pretend to be on friendly terms--after all word of her hating the future emperor would mean she'd lose her chance of finding a rich spouse.
(But is she wrong about Edelgard? Of course she isn't... right?)

Dorothea is about to make love to the woman she loves with her entire being, Edelgard. After so long the two have grown comfortable about their vulnerabilities and are ready. So why is Dorothea so terrified? Why is she recalling past horrible sexual experiences with other suitors? Why is she acting so emotional when Edelgard, who has bared her scars to her, is being so unbelievably vulnerable and open, has far more rights to be terrified of sex?
(Edelgard sees through her and assures her that they needn't continue: someday they will both be comfortable. She says this without a shred of judgement.)

Dorothea feels conflicted about whether she should feel bothered about not being desensitised to war or to feel glad she isn't desensitised. Edelgard feels regret over an aspect of the war she couldn't control. They have each other, and have always confided in one another with such matters.
