Summary
“Koda,” Bato says again. “You…you have to leave me behind.”
The world goes cold.
Hakoda is selfish. He knows this.
What most people get only once in a lifetime if they’re lucky, he wants for a second time. He wants so badly that it overpowers the pragmatism and rationality that rules every other aspect of his life. And what he wants, he would risk anything for. His men, his Tribe, his own life are all poker chips he would gladly wager to get what he wants. Because Hakoda is selfish, and he knows this.
Bato is badly wounded. Hakoda makes the excruciating decision to separate the wolf from the pack.

Sokka gave him a sheepish smile. “It’s…well, you see, there’s this boy…”
Hakoda sighed and set down the sports section. This was going to take a while.
“He works at Barnes & Noble. At the big information desk in the middle. Every Saturday. And I really want to ask him for his number, but it’s super awkward because there’s always this other guy working the information desk at the same time. He’s old, like you. But I have a plan." Sokka’s eyes lit up deviously. “You come with me to Barnes & Noble today when they’re working and distract the old man. And while you have him distracted, I’ll swoop in and get the goods!”
Sokka has a plan to ask out the cute boy at the bookstore. Hakoda is a begrudging participant until he meets the boy's beautiful older coworker.
