    Was hoping against all hope you'd give me another ending. I'll come back read this again sometime and I'll just abstain to read the last part... Also I stumbled across the Arnaud perspective first (cos that's the order they show up in) and love it even more. I hope you'll complete it - but you have my blessing to not quite *completely* complete it... you know

      I'm actually hoping to make Arnaud's end a bit more... hopeful/healing in combination with the bigger backstory I'm writing for him, though there's def no way to turn it positive from the perspective of those left behind...

      Honestly, I agree it's so tempting to just save everyone, and I've seen a couple of fics on here that do a pretty good job of it - without pairing these two up, ofc. I keep finding that there's truth in a tragic (love)story making the time spent together meaningful in a way that a happy end just can't quite do.

      Glad to hear you like Arnaud's perspective so much! I'm definitely still working on it. When I started, I found it challenging for a bit, but I've since come out the other end actually enjoying his more myself. There's that extra depth of a longer life lived in dire strife finding some fleeting comfort.

        Oh don't get me wrong, in my opinion this insert is much better writing than any attempt at an alternate happy ending I've read. It is, like you said, tragic and meaningful and it hurts but I just want more lol
        I'll have to check out your backstory fic. It too will be bittersweet knowing his inevitable fate but I expect I'll love it too.
        Also I'm a French speaker and a history buff and reenactor so please don't hesitate to pick my brain about anything you'd like.

          OMG you're perfect lol - Will do!
          Please also do feel so free to leave an unprompted note at any point where you see something that doesn't line up at all. I imagine there will be stuff in the long fic for sure. I do have a knack for languages and understand French fairly well, but that's it. And my historical knowledge is extremely spotty. I will say, they did a number on anyone trying to follow through on the whole "Count of Provence" thing - the actual ruling family during that time was a damn mess.

          For the moment, I have a lot of ideas for more vignettes for the backstory, so I hope that once you get to know (my version of) Arnaud's son's mother, their dynamic will be a substitue indulgence for these two :)

            I was impressed with your french even though I can tell you're not a native speaker because of some choices you made - but that made it all the more impressive.
