    and a few months later he’s writing omegaverse mpreg fic where he knocks up Paul. and ofc he posts it publicly and advertises it loudly as performance art or social commentary yada yada

    in all seriousness i adore this and laughed aloud at several points despite being a bottom John truther. and tbh even if John bottomed in this wonderful alternate timeline, he would still go on and on about how he’s a top bc he’s a lying liar who lies

      Oh for sure! It's like, hey baby boy, take your regressive understanding of sexual preferences back to the bronze age (bottoming=girly) where it belongs. But I mean he was born in a pretty homophobic environment, I think it takes a while to unlearn all of that kind of thing (if you ever do), and he always seemed to shout the loudest about the things he felt really insecure about. (When Paul moves to Scotland to be a dad instead of doing hard drugs and partying, it's because he's a LOSER and SQUARE; when John tries to get clean and becomes a househusband and father, it's because he's BRAVE and MODERN!) If he was here I wonder what his real understanding of his own and other people's sexuality would be at this point.

        man, i think about John’s stunted understanding of his sexuality and how it might have evolved as times grew more progressive regularly. it’s like my Roman Empire. also how Paul would reconcile his ‘John wasn’t attracted to men bc if he was he would’ve wanted ME’ bullshit if an older, wiser John were around to say ‘yeah no I’m bisexual as hell’ but that’s another matter !! anyway, your depiction feels very true to the vision of Old John i hold in my heart: feeling so deeply perceived by the power of the beautiful fujoshi mind that he has to make it the entire world’s problem

          Yes! Exactly!! I wish we had an older and wiser version of John to share his take on life, sexuality and gender. I think these things always fascinated him and he thought about them a lot, and I wonder what would have changed for him as the world changed. And I do still think he'd have made it everyone else's problem sometimes. :)
