    "...it’s always just been him and this neat, sparse, respectable apartment where he will die as he has lived, alone and unloved and unloving." Ouch. This really sets the tone for Phillip's emotional state during this chapter. Really cuts to the bone, poor guy.

    And god, poor Caroline. Still clinging to the hope that it's true love, when in reality he couldn't care less about her. And poor Barnum, too. Honestly, all of them. Their emotions are so raw, and the one person who should feel bad doesn't have an ounce of remorse.

    Love this story! Now onto the new chapter - so excited to read it!!

    1. This situation right here would probably be a Victorian family's worst nightmare: not only is the girl indisputably pregnant, but the man responsible refuses to help save her from total ruin. And yeah, Phillip's dread of dying alone feels way too relatable. All the worse when he's struggling with alcohol dependence and unloving parents and who knows what past traumas.
