Summary
There were rumors about Gansey and Ronan, of course, but Adam didn’t put much stock in rumors. He relied on what he could see. What he could hear.
What he saw was a flurry of fleeting moments of casual intimacy—a hand pressed to the small of a back and a whisper in the ear, touches that could have been romantic or platonic, both or neither. Space shared with ease. Eyes drawn to each other more than anyone else.
What he heard were snatches of whispered conversation—as if they were in their own world, and not a lecture hall full of a hundred other people. Every word was laced in hidden meaning and inside references and whole knowledge of the other.
It wasn’t exactly a stretch to imagine that the rumors were true.
Adam thought about that, too. The two of them, together. The picture they would make. Sometimes he was even desperate enough to include himself in the fantasy. He wondered what it would be like to be the subject of their undivided attention. He wondered if such a thing would be survivable.

Summary
Only months into his PhD program, Adam Parrish is faced with a challenge he never expected: the loss of his stipend due to cuts in federal funding. But Adam's always been resourceful, and he's always found a way to overcome whatever speed bump or road block is put in his path. So as he leaves the meeting where his advisor broke the bad news, he stops at a bulletin board covered in flyers for research studies. Usually, they don't pay much, but hiding behind a few other flyers, Adam finds a study that might be his saving grace.
It's seeking participants to gain weight on purpose, and it's paying people $250 per pound.
At that rate, it's a no brainer. Even Adam's husband, Ronan, agrees. So Adam signs up, and just like with everything else in his academic life, he goes all in.

"I’ve kind of wondered something for a while.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.” Adam lifted a hand and sank a finger into the downy softness of Ronan’s coat. “You wear a shirt sometimes that says Pillow Princess. Right here.” He drew an arc from Ronan’s right pec to his left, then rested his palm gently in the middle of Ronan’s chest. “Is that true?”
Smirking, Ronan replied, “Do you want to find out?”
Every day on his commute, Adam Parrish sees a guy he's nicknamed Buzz Cut. Yet despite riding in the same train car each morning for months, neither of them has said a word to one another. Which is fine. Adam has no problem surreptitiously watching Buzz Cut.
Particularly when Adam notices Buzz Cut's starting to put on a little weight.
But when Adam and Buzz Cut are thrust together on an over-packed train, they finally say hello. Which leads to Buzz Cut — Ronan — asking Adam out. Which leads to their first date that evening. Which leads Adam to an answer for a question he's had for a very long time.
Is Ronan really a pillow princess?

But the worst that could happen (other than Adam breaking up with him) would be Adam laughing at him. Ronan had survived worse, and Adam had laughed at him for less. Adam had also never judged Ronan for anything he’d pulled out of his dreams, no matter how puerile or debauched.
Pretty sure they’d found themselves in a laughing at not breaking up with sort of situation, Ronan took another smoker’s breath before he opened his eyes and looked at Adam, still sitting on the bed with the candy perched in his fingertips. Ronan managed to keep the riot in his rib cage out of his voice as he told Adam, “They make you fat.”
“Beg pardon?”
“They make you gain weight.”
After Ronan Lynch encounters a chubby version of his boyfriend in a dream, he wakes up with a room full of dreamt candy that makes whoever eats it gain weight.
Ronan doesn't expect his boyfriend, Adam Parrish, to indulge Ronan's fat fantasies. And Ronan definitely doesn't expect Adam to enjoy those fantasies just as much as Ronan.
